This video took me over 40 - 50 hours to put together when I include filming, editing and painting the miniature. If you want to support what I am doing here, consider subscribing to my channel and giving this video thumbs up. Thanks! 👊 EDIT: Guys, as always you can combine stippling with other blending methods! Many of you mentioned that it might be good to stipple basic gradient and go over it with a few glazes - YES! Definitely go and do that :)

I really appreciate the "in under 5 minutes" approach. You explain the topics quickly and precisely, making your videos super valuable as a reference to watch again if needed. I guess my next Space Marine will be painted with this technique for practice ;)

I was just coming here to say this. This is my second video of Zumikito's that I've watched, and I subscribed after the first (Painting volumes). Not every tutorial video has to be for absolute beginners ("This is a brush. This is paint. This is how I assemble the mini. This is how I prime" *20 minutes later* "Now, let's talk about [insert technique]". I also love the comparison shots to other techniques, so you can see how the two techniques vary and produce different results. Super useful both for planning your army, and identifying different techniques for different textures. If I had the discipline and motivation to make videos, these are what I'd aspire to, with one tiny difference. I'd paint two minis each time with the technique. One mini would be an "ideal" mini for showcasing the technique, and the other would be a "standard" mini that is identical every video. The standard mini would have to have a number of different surfaces/materials on it. The "last" video of the series would be to showcase all of the painting techniques side-by-side on the standard mini, with a final one painted with multiple different techniques based upon what looks best for a given surface across the techniques. It'd probably be really tiresome to do, painting the same mini over and over again, but what a great resource. As I said, I lack discipline and motivation, so I know I'll never get around to it. I welcome, nay encourage, anybody else who sees this idea and thinks they can pull it off to do so.

I've been away from the tabletop gaming and miniature painting scene for a few years now, and back when I did paint minis I usually went for pretty safe and simple approaches like basecoat/wash/highlight. I've bought some minis over the past year and I think it's time I get back to painting and try challenging myself with new techniques like this. Love the videos.

After seeing this year's Golden Demon entries, and the heavier reliance on stippling over glazing, I decided to look into the technique more. Who comes up first on my search? The Z-Man, naturally. I think I've now watched the video a few times over the years, and it's a wonderful, clear, concise overview of it. I have a free mini of the month ready to try this after I finish glazing my Kommando kill team. I appreciate what you do, man.

I'm so happy I found your channel, as I'm just starting out in the hobby. I really like that you have so many videos on brush techniques, as I don't use an airbrush, not yet anyway. I'm currently going through all your videos in the background as I'm painting. Luckily I don't have to worry about time, as I don't play the game. I paint for the sake of painting, so all my minis will be display pieces. Thank you for all your hard work.

The Artis Opus XS drybrush is great for stippling, i use it ALL the time. if you combine it with the idea of mixing paints from one tone to another you get great smooth gradients. and if you use glazes or an Airbrush to smooth it out, it gets better.

Hey man, I just wanna say, I was a little skeptical about this technique. Not so much in the sense of "Oh, this won't work." and more in the way of "I don't think I can do this." But I decided to give it a go anyway on a d&d miniature and it has become my new favorite technique. I honestly don't even know if I'm doing it right, but this figure has come out looking really good so far. So, thank you!

Stippling looks interesting because it supports a rough structure of armor. Here you can change the blending technique for different surfaces maybe? Cloaks get another treatment like metal for example.

Well done! Stippling is one of my favorite painting methods. I prefer it over smooth surfaces as it gives texture to the mini and makes it look more realistic and alive in my opinion. You can also overlap stippling with glazing to smoothen the stipples if required. I usually do this for smoother fabrics like cloaks. There are a lot of different ways to stipple and in some cases, you don’t even damage your brush if you use it’s side. Good job on mentioning so many methods in such a short and to the point video. I subscribed right away and I enjoyed watching this. Thanks for the content ! 👍🏼👍🏼

Try using a "spotter" type brush this will give you delicate dots and you don't have to press down so hard on the brush. You can also do a compromise and "cross hatch" strokes of transparent paint. This is super for metal, leather, nurgle and wood.

Hey buddy! Love this video and love your channel! Just wondered what your thoughts are on how to do a kind of airbrush stipple. I’m painting Mortarion and want to add some interest to the wings instead of flat colours. My plan was to splatter white paint on the wings and then glaze with inks crimson to a yellow brown at the tips, letting it dry and then repeating the process until I’m happy with the results. Do you think this would provide pleasing results? Thanks and keep up the great content!
@Zumikito
@Zumikito 4 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I mean it is probably possible, but usually when I am stippling, I am trying to make it smooth, it sounds like you want to add "inconsistencies" so you can do that with airbrush but taking make up brush and stippling with it could do the trick. It is hard to imagine what exactly you have in mind, but I think that you can do some reasearch on that and find what you are looking for

@@ZumikitoI basically want to make the winged flesh look like flesh, The wings don’t have that much detail in terms of little lumps so by putting random dots on and glazing over I’m hoping it will look more interesting. I’ll give it a try on a practice sheet first I think.
