Having worked at a pizza restaurant, I can confirm that isn't quite what it is like. Maybe if you used a lighter pigment to look more like cornmeal it would fit better. That and the grass tufts, no way would that happen in a kitchen, people would have long since trampled it. Small details, but details matter. It really ruins the immersion.

Alternatively for armor, before you clear coat the mini. Throw sand at it for an extra realistic paint chipping effect. as a bonus, It also gives it that nice dusty effect. Two birds with one stone, or rather a handful of tiny ones.

For a really rusty metal, I use a rust colored base layer, drybrush it with some mettalic color, and then carfully stipple some dark color on it (grey for cast iron look, dark brown for thick rust). Some additional texture paint can also help before.

Pigment powder are really nice for weathering. But using IPA for sealing doesnt really work and a varnish dulls them down too much. The only thing that works kinda well is Green Stuff Worlds Pigment sealer. Its not perfect but better than the alternatives.
@Oroberus3 ай бұрын
I made some really good experience with a more ... let's say ... environmental take ... on aging minis if I knew up front that I was going for a used or even damaged look. Before actually even assembling them, take the parts and just forcefully throw them on to some rough ground a few times, or put them in a glass and fill it with lots of tiny pebbles before shaking it. This will lead to small chips and damage on the parts (which in space marine terms is pretty much always, armor). If you got some older minis which are already 'done' but 'neat', try gunpowder or even fireworks This way, you have ACTUAL damage, you can orient yourself while painting the damage
@alexeyagapov42052 жыл бұрын
What do you think about adding actual scratches by cutting wedges into the model with an x-acto knife? It could make realistic painting easier, since there's real edges you can highlight.
@Zumikito2 жыл бұрын
Can work for sure, but it really depends what the final scratch looks like - be careful!
@seanmalloy72495 ай бұрын
@@Zumikito And it's very easy to get the scratch completely out of scale with the rest of the miniature. One of the things I've seen modelers use for making scratches in the actual model is a cheap dental pick, giving some more control than with a craft knife.

There are a couple of different kinds of artist's pastels; one of them is oil-based, and these don't do well as ground pigments -- you want to make sure that you have chalk-based pastels for doing pigment applications, but yes, they will work, and are used somewhat extensively in weathering plastic models, particularly military vehicles.

If I was weathering for black armour and trying to imply an armour chipping effect would I use a light grey as I should imagine that the bright colour, as you say, shows a shallow cut and not a deep cut. This means that I think it will not look like a deep chip so what colour do you recommend I use

@Zumikito3 жыл бұрын
depends on the paint - model colors are usually more matt (especially black, which is not good imho) but overall, they are between satin and matte unless you thin it too much, in which case it can be a little glossy when glazing. For that reason some people use glaze medium instead of water, but I find it ok
