I did but I have an extreme hatred of Dudley Moore for some reason so didn't really care. The devil character from the original looks cool though.

I hate when they use good looking people to sell a movie. Film is my passion and it's insulting when a studio tried to fool it's audience, the sad thing is it works all the time...... With that said, I must admit, Elizabeth Hurley drove me crazy in this movie, I mean my god she is absolutely gorgeous.

The words you spoke in this video about humanity and how dumb everyone is, is more truer now than ever. You are ahead of our time Andy!
@Doctor_Odin6 жыл бұрын
You can argue that Elizabeth surely as the devil was supposed to represent the reason why he wants to sell the soul isn't true love but lust itself. With his wishes being Jabs at him not getting that is not meant to be with her that's not his heart that wants her butt the head between his legs.
@Lazrael324 жыл бұрын
I'm late to the party, but yes I agree with this. Also he spent a lot of time on the devil being a dude. If my memory is correct, the devil is an angel, and angel's aren't masculine or feminine (typically depicted with feminine face and masculine bodies). He is the ultimate liar.... so "she" is whatever "he" wants to an extent. While the remake is very formulaic and less of a classic, I enjoyed Hurley's performance. Not just because she is gorgeous, but also it seemed like she was having a lot of fun. I tend to find the original a little to slow, however I do think it is the superior movie.

6:23 The VHS copy with the berry red selections banner I found says on the back separate from the film summary points out how the Devil was a man in the original but this movies director Harold Ramis while considering different actors was asked by his 2nd wife Erica Mann "Why can't the Devil be a woman?" and I didn't see it on the other releases backs.

If another Bedazzled reboot (better narrative structure, returning buddy comedy, no forced morals) was made, who would you cast as the Devil? In context of the character being funny, clever, charismatic, and sinister but not too obvious, my top picks would be: Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Simon Baker, Benjamin McKenzie, Jon Stewart, Ricky Gervais, or Will Smith
@Justmyhandle8 жыл бұрын
***** I would LOVE Alan Rickman in the role if he wasn't dead, R.I.P.
@shadowking97393 жыл бұрын
Something that the remake was missing that the original had were the scenes of the protagonist and the Devil actually spending time talking. I found Stanley and George's discussions on the nature of God and morality quite interesting and it felt like a buddy movie, just with a supernatural twist. The remake cuts these scenes out and as a result, it just goes from wish to wish without any breathing room or insights into the characters or the world around them.
@haileyshannon75488 жыл бұрын
I ridiculed at school for knowing The 1967 version existed. Moore and Cook were a professional comedy team, so they HAD good chemistry already! Also when the were promoting the new movie Raquel Welch was the Devil, WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG! Also I must say you do a better job at "destorying" movie than say "Matthew Davis"

When you talk about the chemistry between Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore, prior to this the two have worked together as a comedy duo for a long time including their own sketch show and the familiarity between the two and their trademark dry, deadpan wit is what makes it work for them. For me, the gags in the remake were just cheap and crass and thrown at you in the hope that it comes and goes before you can register what's happening.

Honestly a proper reboot for "Bedazzled" should be more like this: *Keep the dark comedy buddy dynamic, but instead of being Satan or a sex-changing devil, make the dealer be a demon that wants to gain approval for his master. *The Seven Deadly Sins associates should more like the Seven Princes of Hell, but still have a woman in there to represent Lilith. *Make the ending be happy to both main characters. Stanley (or Elliot) finds a new love interest that actually loves him back & the demon character, Spiggot, gets to become an angel and sent to Heaven. Plus, I can't help but sort of compare the premise of the reboot is similar to the outlandish Go Nagai manga series, "Hanabe Bazooka." Which has a desperate guy that has a wish granting female demon (well two, a male & a female one), and no matter he wishes for, everything goes wrong......only the manga is very raunchy and definitely involves more acts of the Deadly Sins, especially a heavy amount of lust.

One piece of the remake I can't help but nitpick: The part where the devil Demands for Elliot's last wish. I mean, it's only one wish. Does it matter how soon he makes it? Or does just doesn't want to waste waiting on Elliot? Again just a nitpick of mine but still. Regardless, I enjoyed this review as much as I enjoy this channel.

I agree. I'm big Dudley fan, but his movie put me to sleep. The Harold Ramis remake was A LOT better and funnier. I think he feels forced to boot and bash remakes he reviews. That's his role. I either would not of reviewed it to bash or gave it a good review. Most of the time he's right about his bashing remakes. I subscribed today. He's funny and entertaining. Got that "beaten up" Jesus look going.
@kayleighbrown4598 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of films he's reviewed that he hasn't given the boot to....Well, two at least. He just didn't like this movie because he didn't think the Devil character was done well...which is a very fair criticism considering how hard that is to actually mess up and they managed to do it. Also, he probably just has a different sense of humour. I was giggling like an idiot over those brief clips or the original but the clips of the remake just made me roll my eyes. It's all subjective.
