I think they missed a trick with Peter Vincent. They should have kept him as an actor who played a vampire killer but have him be this muscley, macho Blade type. 'Razor, Vampire Hunter' or something like that. Having a macho Wesley Snipes type actor who turns out to be a total coward would play more for the humor and work as a modern version of the van Helsing type character the old Peter Vincent played.

Uh why is it so weird that Jerry the vampire does modern stuff. I mean even Dracula was smart enough to blend in with normal society. Pretty sure if he lived for 400 years he'd pick up some things that are considered normal behavior. It'd be weirder and more suspicious if he acted like a standard vampire.
@frankg27908 жыл бұрын
+The Fan Without a Face When I saw the modernized Jerry, all I see is an egotistical frat boy watching Reality TV. It may make sense in real life, but this is a movie, so everyone expects a mysterious rich recluse hiding in a crypt until dusk and actively hunting down potential victims.

I don’t know. I like the fact that the movie doesn’t really waste its time with “mystery suspense”. We already know Jerry is a vampire. Also, in the original Charlie finds out Jerry is a vampire barely 15 minutes into the film. That’s not really slowly finding out. And in the original Evil Ed and Charlie are supposed to be friends but they don’t really come off like that at all. At least in the remake they give a real excuse on why there’s tension between the two.

While yes I'd take the original Fright Night any day or night of the week (it's theme song alone i drunkenly sing in public shamelessly ) i feel the remake has a awkward pedigree of actors like Tennant and Farell i find criminally under rated especially with American audiences (which i hope is helped by Tenant's run on Jessica Jones and Farrell's on True Detective season 2) and think the rest of the cast of the renake and OG is exceptional too. I suppose i see them both as fun B movies reflecting the exploitation of a bygone era be it the Hammer horror for the 80's one or mid 80's gorefests for the remake. Also have you seen the FX show Justified? William Ragsdale /OG Charlie is on that and is awesome

Late to the party but I am binge watching all these vids regarding remakes. Many people are anti remake but some are good (even some in somewhat recent memory). It’s just they are few and far in between with a ton of remakes which are substandard to not worth the film stock they are printed to. This one I would say is one of the latter. I feel like remakes work best when they have a creative team who is passionate about the material or at least has a strong creative vision. A few include The Thing, The Fly, The Blob, Night of the Living Dead (90). I think the biggest pitfall for many remakes is that studios think that they have to be updated to fit cinematically with whatever is “in” at that point. So throw in some bland character, turn Vincent into Chris Angel, throw in a ton of CG and action scenes… because yeah… that’s what the “kids” want. The problem is by doing that they ignore and erase so many facets of what made the original work so well.
@grumpyoldwizard4 жыл бұрын
I have loved this movie since it came out in the 80’s. I have watched it many times, with friends, family, and others. I watched it a month or so ago. I am not like that with most movies, but this one is unique. The reboot is not worthy.

I actually like the sequel to the remake better than the remake. I fucking HATED the remake (I pretty much hate every single thing about it, the vamp cg was horrific, I hated the cast.. Considering I knew nothing of the original when I watched the remake, honestly only finding out about it do to being a fan of both Anton (RIP) and David Tennant, I love this movie and think its pretty good. I've never seen the original so I have nothing to compare against, but still I think it holds up on its own. Of course if you've seen or even grew up with the original you are going to be preferential to that, but that goes for anything.
@LucyLioness1003 жыл бұрын
I give Colin Farrell credit for trying to differentiate from Chris Sarandon’s more subtle nuanced portrayal, but the writing is a huge problem for the remake. The original embraced the ‘80s horror aesthetic by also harkening to the ‘50s B movie and has an awesome soundtrack, terrific performances from its cast & the practical effects are so fun despite the cheapness (that’s what makes it awesome though)

I barely remember the remake (Which I saw shortly after it came out and I watched before the fantastic original) and what really stood out in this review to me is how the nerd characters regressed. Charlie was a well adjusted horror nerd but in the remake he is a generic douchey teen protagonist ashamed of his outdated nerd stereotype past while Ed went from an overly enthusiastic gore hound to a fucking Revenge of the Nerds character.
