Hi Julia, My name is SallyAnn. I have been watching your videos on KZbin for a month now and I just wanted to send you a little note to tell you how much you have inspired me to get crafting with my sewing machine and other mixed media just like you do. I am very excited to start making things to sell in an Etsy shop and maybe do a craft show or two this Fall. Thank you so much for doing your videos and I really look forward to every one of them. God Bless.

I’ve done this exact thing at least 20 years ago. Thanks for showing this. I have a hanging I made years ago. I remember when the clear Sulkey came out. We were doing all kinds of techniques using tulle and anything that would show through. Tfs

Hi Sue, I really like using the tulle for this technique too! It has a different but cool look. Thanks for watching. Julia

Hi Kathy, so much snow in MN and they're getting hit again this weekend. Ugh! We are enjoying a warmer climate this winter but will be going back to MN in 2-3 weeks. I do love and miss the mid west but am glad we escaped this winter:)

Those are adorable I wish I had that kind a machine that I could do those stitches
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi Maurice, I have made the fabric collages with just my free motion stitching and they turn out beautiful. Most any machine can free motion. Also, instead of the decorative stitching on top you could zigzag with multi colored thread or use a feather stitch. You do not need a machine with decorative stitches for this project. Thanks for watching, Julia

Wonderful use of odd bits. Love it. Thanks for sharing your talent. BTW have you tried using longer strips of Solvy (both top n bottom) laying tiny bits fabric, thread ends, yarn, silk ribbon ends, etc etc - then stitch with free motion? After rinsing you’ll have a fantastic one-of-a-kind Scarf!! Very fine bridal tulle can be used for the base as well. Love your idea of adding decorative stitches!! I’ll try that. Thanks ❤️
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cyn, Thank you so much for your comment and ideas! I have tried the Solvy on both sides not on a scarf but a smaller version that I used as embellishments. A scarf would be beautiful! Also I love the idea of the fine bridal tulle as the base! I will have to experiment with that. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Julia

You make the best stuff...I love how your fabric piece turned out...a piece of art by itself. Your bracelets are so cool. I like how you line the inside w/ felt...I find jewelry next to my skin irritating so rarely wear any, just for special occasions.....I saw a beautiful bracelet worn by a young woman and commented on it; she said she'd collaged it with paper, then sealed it. I was impressed. I meant to try it b/c I'm a paper crafter, but never got around to it. Too many irons in the fire.

Once again I'm so impressed by your creativity. Do you think wooden cuffs would work for this project?
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dianne, Yes wooden bangles would work. The only thing to watch for is the added bulk of the fabric. Make sure you can still get the bangle over your hand. Hope you give it a try! Julia

Love it! Julia can you recommend an affordable free motion machine for someone just starting out please? I love the idea of working with this but the machines I have checked seem very costly. Thank you and keep the ideas coming!! Gina
@kathipecor375 жыл бұрын
I hope you don't mind me offering my 2 cents worth--You don't need a specialized machine. Any machine that you can drop the feed dogs and then the special free motion foot or embroidery foot can be added. I have vintage machines I use for this and even my 120 year old treadle works.
@TheFireFlyStudio675 жыл бұрын
@@kathipecor37 Thank you so much! I am new to sewing and had no idea my machine would do this! Wonderful news . Thank you so much! Gina
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi Gina, Most any machine will work. You need to be able to disengage your feed dogs. Usually this is a lever. On some machines, you cover the feed dogs with a plastic plate. I started on an inexpensive Elna. It did not come with a free motion foot but the sewing machine dealer that I purchased it through helped me with the correct foot. Hope this helps, it's a lot of fun:)

Could you use modge podge glue on top of that?
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
I've found that mod podge will darken fabric and change the look. Maybe experiment on a small piece and see if you like the look. Also there is a mod podge made for fabric. Julia
