Stitching with a Smile

Stitching with a Smile

Күн бұрын

I am a self taught hardanger stitcher. These videos will show how I stitch hardanger. The methods I use are not necessarily the “right” way to stitch, and could very well be the wrong way, but they work for me and I wanted to share this.
I am an amateur video maker with an older Sony camera and no editing software. I can not pause, re-start, edit out or make any other changes to the video. Please feel free to fast forward or back track.
An excellent book of instruction for Hardanger Embroidery is “Basics and Beyond” by Janice Love. The continuation to this is “Fundamentals Made Fancy”, also by Janice Love.
Some stores I’ve purchased instructions, patterns and materials are:
Nordic Needle in Fargo North Dakota (USA)
Traditional Stitches in Calgary Alberta (Canada)
Gitta’s in Mississauga Ontario (Canada)
If you would like a good basic starter kit for Hardanger Embroidery I would recommend looking at the Nordic Needle website, they have quite a few. Here’s one very basic one -
www.nordicneedl...
Good luck and, most importantly, have fun!

Yes this lady is so wonderful, she is such a brilliant teacher, I feel so much more confident about doing hardanger now than I did before. I love the way she jokes about things and never makes me feel stupid. Thank you so much 😊

This lady is wonderful! I've never done Hardanger before. I wanted to learn how to do it, but was finding it difficult to track down an absolute beginner's guide until I stumbled across her videos. She made me laugh but taught me that it doesn't matter if you make mistakes, you can always backtrack and put them right. I understood every move she was demonstrating and I can't wait to give it a try. A HUGE thank you to her and her 'amateur' recordings. Here I go....... xxx

My dear, is it possible to show how to hem the borders of a table napkin. I was too young to learn from my mom, she used to make them on soft lines as handkerchiefs. You have now made Hardanger so nostalgic for me, esp with my mother not being around!

I'm so sorry, but my knowledge in hemstitching or drawn thread embroidery is very minimal. I don't know enough to do a tutorial. If you do a youtube search for "drawn thread embroidery" or "hemstitching" you should find some tutorials that may work. I found a group of these on a playlist here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2SlhoGhj6h0iqs I hope this helps to get you started.

+Zoe Guan You're welcome, I'm glad the videos helped. And your english is very understandable! For concealing the thread behind - move your working thread to the back side of the fabric (wrong side) and run it under several of the blocks (maybe 5 or 6 or more). I'm not sure if that answers your question, let me know. The best book I've found is Hardanger Basics and Beyond by Janice Love. I'm not sure if you can order on the internet, but here is a link to a store in the U.S. that carries this book: www.nordicneedle.com/prod/11205.html This is the book I used to teach myself. Thank you again for your wonderful comment! Nina

+Stitching with a Smile Sorry, meant to also say I'll try to add another video about ending or concealing your threads at the back of your work. Give me a week or two to work on that. Thanks again!
