I ran a scout on my 109r from a dig once, gave him the hit and didn’t launch. Rider was about 100lbs lighter than me as well. Dead even till 80 then I snuck by. Scouts are fast! Lots of power for a small bike.

The scout pulls better way over 5k Rpms. I've seen people take first to around 45-50 mph in a race and drag their asses. It'll go 7500-8000 redline ...
@MrLilredmachine Жыл бұрын
I mean, when they tune the m109r they often extend the redline to closer to 8k because it still pulls up there when unrestricted. So it isn't like the M109r isn't a top end bike.
@richardkrause96922 жыл бұрын
Its accurate assessment. I have a Scout and mine heavily modified engine. I race different bikes and people on their bikes. I PERSONALLY FOUND BY EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE SCOUT PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGES IN 1 TO 3 GEARS TO GET OUT FRONT AS FAR AND FAST AS I CAN ( GET GOOD LEAD, DISTANCE)! A SCOUT CAN BE RUN DOWN IN 4 TO 6 GEAR. Mine has multiple motor modification though. Currently 165 hp and 135 torque, 460 pounds and I weigh 170lbs. So even with this power,torque,my weight I have to hammer bike from get and stay in it to win. Very important is shift points,staying in Scout power,torque ban. With the mods on mine it has made huge DIFFERENCE in how bike acts in 4th through to 6th. Meaning because of motor mods this area is now stronger and makes it much harder for other bike and rider to run my scout down. IT GIVES THE BIKE BASICALLY SAME ADVANTAGE IT HAS IN 1 TO 3 GEAR IN 4 TO 6 NOW. THE 130 MPH THING HURTS THE BIKE IN LONG DISTANCE RACE BECAUSE OTHER BIKES GEARED FOR HIGHER SPEED. I keep the race to quarter mile,half mile tops because most bikes have higher top end speed ( 130 and above). Correct me if wrong but 109 has 150 top speed if I REMEMBER correctly. I don't challenge or get tricked into racing certain bikes ( hayabusa and few others). I can get them out of the hole and 8th mile but then they just run away from me. So if I do race one I race them max of two city blocks because I know my Scout has excellent chance of WINNING. Know your bike and its advantages and disadvantages and put in race situations that work to its advantages and not disadvantages.
@MrLilredmachine Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the M109 is a bit different in how the motor is tuned and makes power compared to a lot of the big CC cruisers. It revs comparatively so it can make use of that big motor to draw out some heavy duty top speeds. It has to be derestricted first though, as the fun stops at 120mph from the factory. If any of the races were run for more than a gear or two, that M109 would check out and disappear.

@alfrede.neuman86115 жыл бұрын
The naysayers responding to this thread that think this race is "closer" than it should be, need to consider this. The Scout Bobber has a short, torquey power band. Its got lots of "Oomph" in the lower ranges, which is one of the things that makes it seem as nimble and quick as it does. The Bobber starts churning out its torque curve by 2,000RPM and peaks in the 5,500-6,000RPM range. The M109R, while not "torque-less" down low, comes on a little softer in the lower end, due to its engine configuration and shines near the top end of the tach. The M109R doesn't really even start putting out any serious power until 4,000RPM....at which point, the Scout is already half way through its power band. The M109R on the other hand, will carry power in the first three gears all the way up to 7,400RPM (7,000RPM in 4th and 6,500RPM in 5th). Starting these guys at the BOTTOM of each gear in these comparisons, is going to give the initial advantage to the Scout...every, single time. This is why the Scout gets the jump on, or at the very least is able to "hold off" the M109R for the first couple of seconds of each pull. Point being, is that these roll on starts don't really showcase anything, other than the fact that you need to be in the right gear/RPM for best results. This one, was done to accommodate the lower power and RPM regions of the Scout, which puts it in favour. Bottom line....these two bikes are leagues apart in any real world performance comparison. Anyone thinking of getting into a Scout Bobber because they think it'll be "close" to the performance of an M109R (or similar level bike) in the real world, might be in for a rude awakening.
@BrandonBicasso5 жыл бұрын
Nice analysis. They are close in the quarter mile, though. If anyone is sleeping on a Bobber, they'll get surprised. Me owning both, the Scout/M109R will both come out the hole strong. But of course, the 109 has the better set up and it's torque curve is flat and doesn't dip till the upper rpm range. The Scout has to build rpms to get there. Solid points, though.

@Peter Foster Timing is backed off in first 3 gears on the 109 causing the jerky throttle. Buy a TRE and it smooths out and gives full power (also gets rid of that 5th gear 5700 rpm limiter)

I have a scout bobber. The redline is 8200 the bike doesn't stat ripping until 5000 rpm. So the rider is probably the factor here. If you put the weight of both bikes and the hp no. Into the 1/4 mile calculator the scout is clear winner. 25 more horses can't overcome 200lbs.
@BrandonBicasso22 күн бұрын
Def not the rider. Should research the 109/Vrod and consider torque.
@stevensullivan180522 күн бұрын
@@BrandonBicasso you miss the point-if I was on a Hayabusa and shifting @ 5500 it would look about the same as the video. that bike makes its power @ 9700. it makes 111 ft tq. but you half to rev it to 9700 only an inexperienced rider would roll it on in a speed contest. I love the mean riding position on the bobber. It is somewhat more comfortable than I expected. I just love the way you can feel the power in the bike, and how it transforms that on to the road. A dozen auto-oiler systems on the market for chain drive. Add oil to a reservoir now and then, and forget it. Chain stays a lot cleaner, doesn't wear (chain "stretch"), and lasts 3x longer. The tacky spray lubes are the reason chains cake with garbage. Regular 30wt oil will simply dampen, prevent rust, prevent build up, and sling dirt off.

Perfect...this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm on the fence right now between both the Scout Bobber and the M109R B.O.S.S. I'm coming from the SuperSport realm and looking for a muscle cruiser that will take my breath away when I hit the throttle. The Ducati XDiavel S is also another option, but it's an addition 10k (Canadian) than either of the other two. I'm really leaning towards the M109R but this vid has me reaching for the Bobber again, lol. Thanks muchly for the great video.

The m109r is the way to go, I have the black version of that beast. I recently let a friend of mine that just purchased a 2016 Harley and even he said the rush he got on my 109 doesnt compare. His Harley is the one with 107 ci Milwaukee somethin' hes thinking of returning it and purchasing the b.o.s.s., you have to remember the m109 has 127hp+ at the wheel stock!

Have you thought about a Triumph Rocket 3. I love mine and she will pucker any asshole that grips and rips it. She is hefty though! ;)

Ok so i own victory octane(basically upgraded internals of scout motor and much faster). and my dad owns m109r. The m109r is best described as a Beast. Its the monster. Its the “muahahaha im the mannnn” type of bike. I ride it all the time and yes, its heavy and you defiantly know you got a big ass lumpy 1800cc engine right under you. My victory octane is 1200cc, but much lighter and punches hard. Like Really punches hard. Both very different riding experience and are pretty much the same if you were to race. Would come down to the rider really to be honest. I love the m109r however i would not buy one simply because it doesnt suit my body type or my personality. im 5ft 7 and 65kg. i like to be bloody quick agile and a little mischivious in my riding behaviour. Also love an angry tagressive take off. the victory octane is perfect for me. My dad is the same, he loves my bike and would happily own it but yeah.... he is a big burly 6ft somethin 100kg man and suits the m109r perfectly in size and personality. He prefers to just cruise and enjoy a big monster of a machine with a fat tyre and know if he ever needs or wants to, hes got the muscle grunt to get him going with no worries haha. Our friend tried dads m109r and felt as though it was to much angry grunty big muscle bike for him and he test road a indian scout but it was to small for him....which is why he bought the Indian Darkhorse 1800cc. It suits him so much personality wise aswell. Its more of a tough looking bad ass but Gentlemans cruiser, super smooth effortless and amazing to cruise on. end of the day, test ride bikes, find one that you genuinely prefer to ride because a certain bike will not always be for everyone. Find one where you see it and say “oh shit yes man thats me right there”

Hi, how tall are you? You think the bobber scout would fit a 6ft guy 215 lb guy?

Sure will. Get the extended reach handle bar and extended reach foot controls.

I’ve been riding dirt bikes for 13 years and want to get into street bikes. I really love the styling and sound of the bobber, but in your honest opinion, would it be an ok starter bike for me?
@BrandonBicasso6 жыл бұрын
Since you're used to throttle control, you should be fine. Take a motorcycle safety course and get the M endorsement on your license to acclimate you to street riding and give you a discount on your insurance.

I realize this was 5 months ago but your into is a little misleading. I mean no disrespect nor am I triggered I apologize if someone has already said this in their comments. I own an M109 since 2010 and have been on many forums since 2008. Your MODs that you have do little to nothing for power... the Cobra dragster are one of the worse exhaust for producing power and that's on any bike. They are however one of the loudest out there. Your intakes from the video look to be stock so at best you have K&N filters which again do little to nothing for power. I am not taking anything away from the Indian but a truly modified 9 will walk away from it all day. Still a cool video amongst friends.
@BrandonBicasso6 жыл бұрын
What other mods is there to do to a 109 other than tuning?.... There is hardly any after market support for the 109 other than exhaust and tuning. My 109 has walked several stock 109s and others with different exhaust and tuning set ups so it's definitely not producing stock numbers.
@BrandonBicasso6 жыл бұрын
And if you read the forums, the hyper charger air breathers don't do much more compared to the K&N so I didn't waste my money on it, lol.
@dspan406 жыл бұрын
Brandon Bicasso there are motor modifications that can be done and you are correct about the hyperchargers they are all show but there are intakes out there if you really wanted your 9 to breath better.
@BrandonBicasso6 жыл бұрын
Motor modifications such as? Cams, pistons, big bore kit? What are we referring to? For me, exhaust and tuning is a performance mod. Anything that is not from the factory spec is a modification in my book. And so far, nothing I've seen available is widely produced or worth it without compromising the longevity and reliability of the 109 engine.
@dspan406 жыл бұрын
Cams for sure pistons would be pointless because the 9 pistons are big enough. I agree that you'll create major issues over time when attempting to create more power. However if you were to go with different intakes and a 2 in 1 exhaust system and have your ECU flashed you would see a huge difference without damaging your motor

Triggered!!!! I will be honest, on roll-on races this doesn't surprise me. The M109r has more power. Try taking it to a drag strip and race from a dead stop where Indian may have an advantage. Might be interesting.
@BrandonBicasso6 жыл бұрын
I think that will make the situation worse, actually, lol. Seems that if the 109 is in the same gear as the Indian or one below, there's no chance. But yeah, looking to do a dead stop. Just terrified of the 109 off the line like that. : /
