As a Stockholmer, I'd say Copenhagen definitely has that continental vibe. As it should.

Haha, when I was in Stockholm with my mum we talked about it feeling continental, feeling gamla stan especially was a bit like Lübeck or even Prague but with less beer. 😅

I think both cities are just great, but in your very well presented video you still just scratched the surface of the two cities, the mainstream tourist places.

Nice comparison and video! As for the general architecture, there’s a fundamental difference depending on historical influences. Stockholm is certainly built to withstand a colder climate but has also different influences than Copenhagen. If you visit Malmö or Lund (once a part of Denmark) close to Copenhagen, you’ll find much more similarities in building structures and overall design. The old preserved 18 century wooden small houses found in Södermalm and some other parts of central Stockholm is much more a traditional Swedish style with its distinctive red colour found everywhere north of the region of Skåne. I’m a Stockholm native but appreciate the different vibe of Copenhagen. It’s vibe-wise a bit like comparing Hamburg and Amsterdam, or?
@asenseoftravel
@asenseoftravel 3 ай бұрын
I could certainly see that! Thanks for the insights on those historical influences - I think a few others have alluded to this too that Copenhagen overall has a bit of a “continental vibe.” A solid blend between Scandinavia and Central Europe

1:46 Copenhagen city having fewer people within the city limits is also due to Frederiksberg being an independent city although it's part of urban Copenhagen in every sense. Stockholm has the same with Solna and Sundby Berg, although these areas are much more suburbian than Frederiksberg is.
@asenseoftravel
@asenseoftravel 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I try to lean on metro area statistics more so than just the city limits for this reason. We have the same problem in the US, because city boundaries are so arbitrary. Where I live in Washington, DC, the city limits are quite small and we have about 700k people, but it anchors a metro area of 6 million

Stockholm is beautiful, but Copenhagen is more fun, liberal and people are nicer and more chill. Copenhagen any day..
@coffeehouse1126
@coffeehouse1126 3 ай бұрын
It depends on your needs, Copenhagen might be more “fun” if you like drinking and partying, and the art and culture scene is better. Stockholm is healthier, more physically active and you’re surrounded by wild forests. People are nice too, it’s just a different vibe. There’s more entrepreneurship, more fashion, and more of a competitive spirit - the famous Swedish pop music industry is an example of that, and some of us feel more at home in this environment.
@andywessel
@andywessel 3 ай бұрын
@@coffeehouse1126 i think that Stockholmers are more snobbish. I disagree about the fashion bit. There are alot of design and fasion brands from Copenhagen and the street scene is more varied. Copenhagen os also more continental and the food scene is way better. There are 3 3-star michelin restaurants in Copenhagen and more stars than many cities with multiple times as many people. Copenhagen also has less crime, murder rate and «no go zones». It is easier to travel to the rest of the world and Europe from CPH. The art and culture scene in CPH is definitally worse than in Stockholm if not better and more diverse. Stockholmers might be more physically active, but so what. Thats a personal choice and you will find people like this in CPH too if thats your crowd. CPH is just more diverse and chill.
@coffeehouse1126
@coffeehouse1126 3 ай бұрын
@@andywessel even though I love Copenhagen, it’s one of my favorite cities, what you wrote is simply untrue. CPH is beautiful in its own way, but fashion doesn’t compare, you can’t be more chill, which Danish culture is, and also more uptight design-wise about clothing with a world-wide reputation, like Sweden and more specifically Stockholm is. Why not simply appreciate the differences? Sometimes I do prefer the chill vibes of CPH, it’s ok to acknowledge it. The no-go zones comment simply tells me you don’t travel, perhaps your knowledge comes from youtube videos? Stockholm is stunning city, I have never felt safer and have yet to find an ugly neighborhood.

Interesting analysis. To me Stockholm feels grander, mostly owing to the topography. The fact different points in the city offer sweeping vistas of the cityscape, allows you to experience the city in a way that just isn't possible in Copenhagen. And a big part of Stockholm's appeal is not the city itself but the archipelago and the stunning nature surrounding the city, the way you can leave the city and be transported to forests and pristine lakes in under an hour. Copenhagen on the other hand feels much more continental and connected, with most of Denmark even outside the city feeling urbanised. The city itself is equally beautiful but experienced very differently because you're always in the city, never overlooking the city. Which to me translates as less grand in a way, if that makes any sense.
