I've got a 250x150 starting this spring. I wanna keep perch, walleye and a couple northern. I've heard reproduction doesn't occur often due to cycling water. I'm really curious to hear how yours are doing. I live in Indiana but went to college in Minnesota. I've spent years fishing the big game fish of Minnesota. They can live in Indiana but few and far between. Walleye love spawning near moving water but outside of breeding they love true rock structure. I always caught 8ft or deeper near a cliff or near a buoy rock cropping. They're the best fish you can possibly eat. In ponds I've heard 5 pounds is the max. I've seen guys pull 30 inch walleye they're monsters 😆

You have a good mix of fish that will be in your pond. I'm almost hoping the walleye don't spawn in my pond. I would just want them to get big enough that the current bass will not eat all of the the walleye(My biggest fear right now). My plan is to fish the pond in early spring to see how much they have grown since stocking them. I will keep you posted soon on those results and good luck with your pond and fishing endeavors.

@@KeepFishing I'd like to get perch and walleye reproducing with a stable population. I'm installing several airlifts and using a bog to filter the water. I'm also running an intake bay to an elevated big with a spillway back into the pond. My hope is this constant movement and high 02 spur reproduction. I dunno if it will or not. If I can get a lot of minnows, bluegill and perch reproducing in theory I'd imagine I'll support larger predatory fish. I think another key will be a lot of structure.

Update?? How are the walleye doing in the pond? Any major growth in the fish?

To tell you the truth I haven't seen any of them since I stock the pond. I'm hoping the bass didn't eat them but my hope is they are laying low when it is light outside and only come out early morning or late nights. I would like to fish during early morning or late evening to try and catch some and show everyone.

Learn your fish. The minnows are called Fathead minnows fat-head not Flathead. If your bass are 16"+ the walleye were basically bass food. Those walleye will easily fit into the mouth of a 16" largemouth. Those sluggish walleye were very easy for largemouth to ambush and catch. It eats one and it is done chasing food for a couple days. If you are wanting the largemouth to grow bigger than 14" feed them a bigger forage food such as bluegill, hybrid BG or yellow perch or golden shiners. For one bass to gain any weight eating those 2" fatheads each bass has to spend lots of energy all day catching 25 to 30 small minnows a day to fill its belly. Everyday a bass does not fill its belly is a day it does not grow. As bass get bigger they need to eat bigger and bigger meals to gain weight and length. Spending all day wasting the nutritional food energy catching many minnows leaves no food value for growth. Jones LOVES your brand of pond management.

That is always what I thought but every time they come out to stock the pond they just put them in. They say they keep the water temp the minnows are in the same temp that the ponds temp is though.
