It could go like our stock pond... Just get the nice fish in it... Come home from work,... and there's five herons, 23 scaup ducks, three otters, and an eagle, all looking post-Thanksgiving feast full. Aw crap. Someone said I needed a net just under the surface of the water... Next time, I might even let the birds and the Otters out BEFORE I put it in!!

Couple of notes. 1. You'll need more stone and planting uphill to control erosion, but you're doing a great job. 2. Rapeseed is the un-genicially modified and renamed canola. 3. You've totally married above your level with Rachel (you know it she is the catch, lindon farms is just fun).

Next winter, when the waters frozen over like this you could build a nice dock/bridge across with a few long trees spanning all the way across and some of your fencing boards... would've made adding the aluminum sulfate and ice fishing easier.

Well we use discarded christmas trees in Louisiana to trap sediment and reclaim land that eroded. It serves as a natural levee to prevent subsidence, and when combined with marsh grass planting even reclaims land. Works like sea oats. You could use discarded christmas trees every year to build up a levee uphill from the projected edge of your camp area. Also free.

i left the same comment on your brother's video last year. you're doing fine with your transplanting the stocker trout. quick transitions between truck and pond. first thing, make sure to aerate for a few days ahead of time, and have proper circulation of said aerated water. these stockers are coming from HEAVILY aerated water, with a good current. into still water. its like mountain climbing for us, not a lot of O2 where they are now compared to where they were. main thing to shock a transplanted fish is temp. and water quality. always ph and hardness test your host body of water against the stock pond you gather from. makes it easier and more cost effective to properly adjust over time, rather than crash course it.
@narr0wm1nd492 жыл бұрын
You guys need to get a large bucket or tote to fill with your pond water. Put the fish in that then return them to the pound. Try to get them accumulated to your pond water.
@nobblynobody2 жыл бұрын
Fwiw, when the pond is iced over, if you take a couple of buckets of water out and leave even a few mm gap under the ice, you'll get a much better gas exchange and help keep pond critters going over winter.

I think that I would have placed the fabric a little bit more into the water and then more rocks, even rocks that go into the water and then a lot of plants between the rocks! Like tall grasses. Looking forward to see a beach video 😉😂😎

Was not worried I was on the wrong channel although was thinking we were gonna see Chris do another take a swim in the ice challenge. Will that attract ducks? More food. Win Win. My Dad dug us a pond when I was a barefoot brat. We had a huge snapper move in. That ended our swim time. I loved playing with the fish eggs and catching polly wogs... Hello to your Beautiful wife. We had a sugar shack too. Dump a lot of grass seed all over the muddy area and see if any of it takes, if so it should help a bit against the muddyness too. Maybe adding some solar run water circulations would do the fish wonders too, an intake at one side and suctions at the other and let that go through a aeration pump all run by solar. Basically turn the whole pond into a giant aquarium :D

Hi guys always love the video's ty. Just to let you know. Fish basically produce a by product, Ammonia, when they breath. in a natural environment the bacteria on surfaces under the water turn this Ammonia into Nitrites and Nitrates, which is then food for algae and water plants (Its how aquaponics works, contra to popular thinking, its the fish breathing that makes most of the plant food not the poop although that does come into it). Ammonia is bad, it basically burns the fish's gills makes it harder and harder for the fish to breath. Increasing the flow of oxygen certainly helps but its the increase in the ammonia level in the water not so much a lack of oxygen. You can purchase ammonia absorbing pouches you can put in the water if you do this again. Not sure how easy they are to get in Canada but a lot of people who import fish for the aquarium industry use them or the cost but might be an option

If you extended one small section of the pond and put a divider in it that stuck up above the water, would it be possible to have the main body be able to freeze in the winter and still be able to add oxygen in to the pond?
@Danielisimo2 жыл бұрын
I thought that too but the addition of constant air will change the water temperature alot faster. If the air temp is above freezing your injecting that into the freezing water. But it would be cool to see if it would work.

Get the hay bales out of the water!!! Place new bales slightly up slope from the edge above the rocks. Use a jute fabric or straw to hold the seed until that is established. Leave the hay bales as a heavy runoff barrier which will stop silting the pond. Silt equals rapid algea growth, especially in shallow ponds. Hope it all works out!

It would be interesting to compare the cost of stocking the pond with the potential food value of the fish for folks who want to grow their food supply. Also, I laughed so hard at the sprint to the pond with a fish net scene, mostly because I was picturing myself attempting it. If you had a couple more people, you could have passed the net down the line to the pond. Great vid as always.

plant some cattails right there next to the rocks so that will establish a root barrier then some more bushes within the rocks a couple of more bigger trees right in front of that Hill along with seven or eight loads of Rock along with that fabric you're laying down and try to put that seed grass for the plants the deers the animals in between all of it otherwise if you have clear underneath that topsoil it will never stop sliding unless you root up that whole area you need more trees more bushes more rock more fabric and everything your brother said LOL
