The aufgestion for "allowing plants to grow" and "wait before adding fish" is my way forward now. Thank you.

I own the 15 gallon flex, also used some filter floss to fill that first compartment, mostly to slow down the filter flow rate, I have eight cardinal tetras and eight rummy nose tetras and one small bristle nose pleco, change 50 percent of water weekly, have only enough gravel to cover the bottom and anubias plant on driftwood, the tank has been doing great.
@aerithgainsborough7 жыл бұрын
Which filter floss did you buy? I need to find some for mine too. I have the same one. Can I put it on the bottom as well to keep the smaller fish from getting into the intakes? Also, do you know if this tank can handle sand? I just bought some, but I don't want to put it in until I'm certain it won't destroy the filter. (Yes it's for aquariums! lol. )

Now you've got me interested in this tank and I thought I'd made up my mind to not ever get another lidded tank. Had a biowheel filtered tank in the past, that wasn't the greatest filtration system. You'll grow to love those golden tetra once your plants are larger and provide contrast. They are subtly gorgeous.

I just purchased a Flugal Flex 15G a month ago, and immediately started setting it up without doing much research about stocking levels. I was able to cycle it pretty quickly by adding beneficial bacteria. I now believe I overstocked. Still, everything is working beautifully. I test multiple parameters almost every day or at least every other day, and the water remains very good and very consistent. I did add additional biomedia and a small bag of purigen in the first chamber. The tank is heavily planted and all its inhabitants seem very happy. So here's my list of critters. 2 amano shrimp 3 snails--1 mystery and 2 nerite 3 small gobies 11 cardinal tetras 7 harlequin rasboras 2 honey gouramis I know that's a lot. I'll keep up with testing, water changes, and other maintenance and see how it goes. If somebody needs to go, I think it will be the rasboras. They are little too active for my taste and seem to believe the entire tank is all for them alone.

One of my first grader's teachers gave all the kids a betta fish as sort of a science project. Then she moved to a different school and we were stuck with "Sam" Betta. I've never had a fish before so we borrowed a tank from a family member, but it's a turtle tank and of course not appropriate for Sam. So I looked into it and purchased the Fluval Flex 15. We're not planning on adding an aquarium mate because we've read that betta fish don't take kindly to "friends" and we don't want to be responsible for a violent crime! However, our fish seems lonely and depressed---he just seems to hide behind whatever he can find and doesn't move around much. I think he's getting used to the move to the new tank but I wonder how we can make him happier.

Sometimes you have to tug up on the filter part in the middle. The pump out area is where you will see the result of evaporated water so it will be lower than the rest. But in all these tanks I’ve noticed if you push the middle down to far it exaggerates it.

So I’m in a situation where I was given a betta fish in a small bowl. I just set up the Fluval flex that I ordered shortly after the fish was given to me, and I planted it with Anubis, Java fern, crypto, and anacharis. Prior to today, I have only cycled the tank for a week. So... the question is, do I let the betta keep living in the bowl so that I can let the tank cycle, or should could it be justified that it’s having a worse life in the bowl than it would in a non-fully cycled tank. Keep in mind I also want my plants to do well and I don’t want to risk algae either.

@pecktec7 жыл бұрын
+American horror GOREY it can take a while for the plants to settle in. They will have trouble growing and absorbing nutrients till the cycle has been going for a bit. Amazonnia and all soil type substrate will give off ammonia at first. You may be able to counter it with more bacteria than you would normally use. But I prefer to let the take grow out mostly empty as long as I can stand it. So I don't have to fight problems early on.

+Morse Code defiantly start slow on the ferts. They plants have a long acclamation period where in they rest from the transplant then start to grow new leaves or segments based on their current situation. The new leaves will be better suited to you tank and the ball gets rolling from their. The more new growth the more it will begin to absorb nutrients. You may want to wait until you see some new growth before you look at additives. Because algae needs no time to form it's ready right away. Don't give it anything to work with. As for the cycling part that seems to be different for everyone. What I did in the video has been working for me. I haven't added ammonia to a tank before. I get the idea of it. But haven't tried it. When possible I add the fish two or three at a time. With stuff from another tank. This was a special order I had to take them all at once so I added everything they sell for it and the usual bio stuffs from another tank.

What do you feed your plants in the fluval flex 15?
@fishkeepercole24646 жыл бұрын
Can I stick some false julii cory catfish (about 4 or 5) and a female Koi betta it the fluval flex 15 gal? I was also thinking the same for the fluval edge 12 gal.
@pecktec6 жыл бұрын
Sure I think that would be ok.

pecktec thanks for the reply! I think I'm going to do the one that's the cheapest now that I know this should work(crossing my fingers!) Again thanks for the advice!

Are they going to make 45 gallon flex Fluval??
@dannylewis9625 жыл бұрын
I own the 9 gallon fluval flex and it is a fully planted tank with just 6 chilli rasboras , just wondering on any suggestions to add to it ?
@audigex5 жыл бұрын
Danny Lewis another 6 chilli rasbora, or 6 ember tetras, and a handful of red cherry shrimp would look cool - the red on green always looks cool
@dannylewis9625 жыл бұрын
audigex only just seen this , and ye ended up going with 12 emerald rasboras and cherry shrimp 👍🏻

Great video! What substrate are you using in your planted tank?
@pecktec7 жыл бұрын
+Keith Johnson I use something different for every set up. Mostly. I always say what I'm using in the setup videos. So pick a tank you like and check out its video.
