The point about avoiding gossip and idle chatter really stood out to me. It is so easy to get caught up in discussing others' flaws or spreading rumors, but as the video rightly pointed out, this detracts from a life of purpose. By choosing to speak with intention, focusing on meaningful conversations, and uplifting those around us, we not only improve our own lives but also contribute positively to the lives of others. This reinforces the idea of living with integrity and aligning our words with the virtues we seek to embody.

I am going to be honest - I had to walk and learn these things without much guidance from others. It is very difficult for me since I was raised in a very narcissistic environment. I went through hardships when I was young and was disabled which took me out of the picture. I struggled against many things, but it was the narcissist swho did the most damage to me. I quickly learned that they have no interest in pulling up anyone but themselves. I would never want to be like them, I would walk a million miles to get away from that toxic lifestyle. I had very little to hold on to in this world except my faith and my character. That has carried me this far. I learned that through the hardships, that I become a better person but even in my older years, it is quite challenging. This video was excellent and helped solidify my inner being. Peace to you.

"All external events are beyond our control; we should accept calmly and dispassionately whatever happens." - Epictetus
@TheStoicBeacon-TGG19 күн бұрын
Epictetus' wisdom always rings true. The more we try to control external events, the more frustration we invite into our lives. Focusing on what *is* within our control - our responses and choices - often leads to a calmer mind. It makes me wonder, though: in discussions, do you think avoiding certain subjects helps us maintain that inner calm, or is there a benefit to occasionally confronting them with a Stoic mindset? Curious to hear your thoughts!

Such an insightful video! I’ve been trying to adopt a more Stoic approach to life, and this list of topics to avoid is a great way to filter out negativity. It's amazing how much peace we can gain by simply refusing to engage in certain discussions.

I listen to these over and over and enjoy every minute of it. Had we been taught these principles growing up we might not have the conflicts that we experience today. We're taught consumerism as children and if we were taught to think the opposite we might not be as needy as we are today.
