Introvert stoic. Listening to your videos for days on repeat. Life saviour. Literally. Been through much of this and connect 100%. Reading since I was 7. Now trying to go through the hardest 10 days of my life by watching your channel. Well, not much I can do about changing the situation, nothing to be precise so I guess I will just wait and see. Thank you for making these videos and saving lives in a process as in today's world there is not much I find that resonates with me... Being minimalist, introvert, conected to nature and confined where I don't belong - not easy. THANK YOU from MNE 🙏🍃🍂🍀🍁

Does anyone notice that’s it exhausting to be around extroverts? I have a client that is an extrovert, always talking, inviting me to parties in Las Vegas, and I dread going. People think I am crazy but being around them is exhausting. I would rather be at my desk doing work with a cup of coffee.

I find people who have no boundaries and are constantly trying to convince you very tiring to be around, that's what makes me want to be alone so much. so many things to refuse while also desperately trying to be polite to people who are not polite themselves.

True fact. Like I hate being around people, parties. Listen to people talking. And I have to fake a smile and laughter or a conversation just to appear normal or befriend them. It takes so much energy away from me. It's exhausting. I'd rather be on my own engulfed into my own world

For over 50 years I felt like a stranger in the world as an introvert, always experiencing that I was different, that I was wrong, and now discovering that I am not the only one. Pieces of the puzzle have been falling together ever since I delved into the philosophies of Buddhism, Taoism and Stoicism. 🙂

tbh most people perceive themselves as introvert or extrovert so they inherently become it. imo at least 90%+ of people are a mixture of both with different strengths and weaknesses on different aspects of personality. it's also heavily reliant on the context of one's life.

Stoicism is almost by default the philosophy of the introvert.. Without formalizing it, the introvert will naturally walk in stoic paths, and will happily embrace stoic philosophy when he encounters it. Yes, i speak from experience!

100% relatable. Just finished high school, getting ready to start at music college, and have come to the realisation that I surrounded my self with the wrong friends and wrong type of people, Stoicism has changed my way of life, made me happier, more accepting and grateful for what nature brings on my path :)

I try to achieve a balanced temperament, but I've always erred more to introversion- I often feel alienated from the majority of people around me, I feel I can't relate to a lot of their values & priorities. This put me in real danger of becoming bitter & pretentious to compensate for my insecurities. I think Stoicism offers a pretty clear path on how to be a decent person without compromising your own values, even if they go against the majority.

Awesome work and channel ! Since a very early age I was able to reIalize that I was an introvert. As you can imagine, this led me to a lot of problems. Misconception from family, teachers, etc... Most of the time, I just wanted to stay in my zone, doing my own thing... As a byproduct of unavoidable social contact, I started to think I needed to be the opposite and took it on an unhealthy way, which I soon realized and got back on track. Now, I can feel what every stoic realizes at some point in his life : I was a stoic even before I know what this was. Now, being a 25 years old, I can assure that all the thoughts I formulated when I was around 10-13 years old are solid, but now they are backened with life experiences, such as family loss, broken relatioships, sports acomplishment, moving to a new country, some moments of social isolation, and, of course, stoic philosophy. Man, sometimes society complicates our lives so much.... And, of course, other times our analytical overthinking too hehehe ! To all the introverts, stay strong and calm ! Long live to silence !

I'm 70,and I had to look up stoic to see what it meant. I've been single 19 years , soon to be twenty years . I've been married 5 times and divorced 5 times. I finally gave up on finding a man that did not want a geisha girl wife. When this lock down started I told the senior bus driver that the world was finally being made to live my way. I've had several days when I didn't even unlock my door. Now I do take a walk everyday as this seemed a good idea. I avoid Drama queens and kings. But I do enjoy the family gatherings and finding out what they are all doing with their lives. Everyone is on their best behavior at family gatherings so they are always pleasant. But alone does not mean lonely. Is that stoic? As for meditating , all my report cards from elementary school said "This child day dreams too much." But as an adult I read a book on meditating and knew this was what I was doing. I can do it anywhere with my eyes open. Meditate while in the midst of ,I think that's what it's called. I've always hated phones. Another sign?

Great presentation! It's true. We all live in 2 worlds simultaneously... the worlds of "inwardness" and "outwardness". To navigate effectively thru reality, we must cultivate clarity in both directions. Introspection sees inwardly, circumspection sees outwardly. Introspection is the valuable quality of MIND that is essential in neutralizing those reactive tendencies triggered in our circumstances. Peace begins from seeing within.

I think it's a very interesting philosophy. I don't know nearly as much about it than Stoicism and Buddhism for example, but I like the idea of pursuing pleasure (and avoiding pain) in moderation and their system of which desires to pursue and which not to pursue (or are less important). Comparing Epicureanism to Stoicism would be an interesting topic, I think.

This viewpoint is very fascinating to me as an extroverted stoic; what first pulled me to stoicism was its principles of social action, cosmopolitanism and acting for the common good. To me, virtue is impossible without social interactions, but similarily that sweet retreat into one’s inner citadel is needed for fortifying and strengthening the citadel’s walls, and a constant watch over what one lets through the gates. I definietly do relate, though, to finding common chatter boring, I think this is inherently something that belongs to philosophers, maybe not exlusively to introverts. I remember a while back when I first discovered that it is in the stoic nature to be quite introverted and I being surpirised, which is interesting, I suppose it all boils down to the stoic traits being compatible with both introverts and extroverts!

I've found that with all my "responsibilities" I struggle to find time for solitude, taking on Marcus' advice - to retreat into my own mind - and just observing tends to be the best way for me to recharge. I've picked my friends carefully and no longer associate with those who take actions I do not desire to do myself. Observing the basis of people's opinions allows me to show more compassion towards them and to not follow In behaviours that might be considered toxic.

I realize that this is a year old, but I wanted to comment anyway. Appreciating the beauty of nature is a form of meditation. With the understanding that we are not separate from nature, being alone in it, I believe, is in perfect alignment with the stoic and introverted nature of being. Besides, what better way to get away from the noise and frenetic activity of society than out in nature? Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

Im a introvert and stoicism gives me security, and i find it amusing and funny. It gives me silent big balls. Even as a woman. It is very dry humor to me. As a extreme introvert it sort of gives me permission to be my true self. And it teaches me to become the witness. But how tim ferris said its a system to navigate high pressure reality, business wise, the boss of a company, village etc. Or just being highly sensitive and live in this world i guess. Ps misschien kan je een meetup groep starten in amsterdam. 😁 stoic humor

I shy away from interacting with people I know I could be interacting with. I’m rarely genuine when speaking and have a hard time being authentic. I’m turning into a complete loner recently because internet society makes it easy to kind of just live alone and talk to people only when you have to.

Agree. Being an introvert led me to philosophy and that led me to stoicism. It’s also a value system - where the means must stand on its own.

I thoroughly enjoy my solitude, at these times do I comprehend eudamonia. I do not believe I am either an introvert or an extrovert; by practicing Stoicism I find I am more of a neutrovert with an occasional bias toward introvert.

I am a born introvert and facets of stoic philosophy has helped shape aspects of my being for the past year. Though I’ve always been soft spoken, known to seldom speak (and with meaning). I can find that nonsensical words or phrases with friends can be very enjoyable when we’re all laughing together and having a good time. Yet I still hold peace with my words, I don’t promote violence or the gossip of others and sometimes will speak out against those who do. I believe an approach that this video takes are already somewhat of the kind of methods I use naturally. It has helped me along the way to use brute honesty when it comes to important things, to be kind and above all loving. Without these kinds of virtues, it will be hard to make new friends or keep old ones.

Thought I can have a good time with a group of friends, I always resort back to my alone time at home where I get the most of my everyday tasks done. It is the only way to recharge unless it is within nature. Journaling also helps to replay events to grasp them from a less present view; where you can miss many things until future you looks back.

I think a great many of us introverts are forced to embrace Stoicism because of what we have to deal with in this world. For a second, I thought you were referring to doing the laundry instead of studying philosophy in this video. Maybe studying philosophy while the towels are being washed and dried! "Stolen moments"! Would rather do that than be in a crowd of extroverts, thank you very much! Thanks for sharing another great video as always~

While I don't think that being an introvert makes you a stoic, I do think that following stoicism will push you toward introversion. It may, actually, be more difficult if you BEGIN as an introvert, as you'd lack a set of experiences and perspectives to contrast against.

I agree, I think one of the disadvantage of introverts is gaining experience. We experience the world when we are around people. We learn from others mistakes or ours.. better the former. That being said.. sometimes is better to be alone.

I am definitely introverted but have always struggled with my temper and its large in part due to the lack of cleaning I do and some days I have are just downright unproductive. I try to impliment stoic teachings to combat this problem more rigorously as of late.

I believe intro and extro verts are more or less buzz words. You can't completely define one person by a stereotype. I feel stoicism isn't intended just for loners, or people who are a lone. But by people who find periods of solitude and utilize them to create a better version of themselves. You always know what you're actions are, and you learn how they effect others by committing them. There is little room to lie to yourself when it is just you.

I think a lot of introverts (myself included) do in fact mind being by themselves. I've been interested in stoicism as a way to integrate myself with others less haphazardly. I think a trap many introverts fall into is forcing themselves to be more social, and then finding themselves in situations that reenforce their bias against the social marketplace. A beautiful and tragic example of that feedback loop is "The Genius of the Crowd" by Charles Bukowski imo.

This intro and extro things depends on each individual who follows stoicism. I myself follow stoicism. But keeping the virtue "Moderation" in mind, I try to be in home for fair time and go outside my home for fair time, Not much or not less. I talk to people outside and engage socially in moderation. My aim is to be fair, balanced and moderate in every thing of life.

Fellow introvert here. I can sometimes enjoy the company of others but only if I deem them to not be toxic personalities. More often than not though, I find myself completely exhausted from trying to put on a face for people who just talk about unimportant things and gossip about others. I often fantasize about building a cabin in the woods and retiring at a young age. Not so I can travel and party and live it up, but so I can enjoy my solitude and read books and write about meaningful topics.
