honestly it's not the government in this case. Stoke used to have 6 coal mines, a steel rolling mill and a thriving pottery industry when I was boy there (I'm 56 now). The coal and steel is totally gone, the pottery industry is limping along for the moment. The money has drained out of the city and a lot of people have left. This then attracts the usual opioid enthusiasts and asylum seekers and down it all goes into the gutter. Time to move on. There is nothing going to save the place.

I once resided on Regent Road, adjacent to the location he identified the feces at @13:56. It may stretch the bounds of credibility, but that street was once in a more deplorable state than depicted in this footage. Throughout the Covid lockdowns, the local authority crammed the HMOs (Houses in Multiple Occupation) with an overwhelming number of substance abusers. Moreover, the individuals who once frequented the now-shuttered Macari Centre would brazenly indulge in drug use in full view of innocent children playing at the nursery situated just across the street. The area is beyond redemption.

They get grants and mo ey to do things there and they never get done or they get left half finished. Like the "levelling up" you see signs and posters for everywhere. All they did was knock some stuff down and make them into open air car parks. Half of that work is still left unfinished and still nothing has been built. Where did the money go? I last went to Hanley in 2017, and I found it depressing enough then. I even went to the museum to buy some postcards to send back home to Lancashire as some kind of ironic statement that someone would go on holiday to Stoke. Sadly, the postcards were unrepresentative of the area - as I remember they were of a bottle kiln and the canal in Etruria. I reckon they should do postcards of some of the scenes shown in your videos. Look how many "OMG LIKE LOOK HOW BAD STOKE IS #NOHOPE #DUMP #SHITHOLE" videos there are on KZbin now - there must be some kind of market for this stuff. When I hear people complain about the issues we have in Preston (and yes, we do have issues), I point them here and tell them "Well, look what happened to where *I* grew up..."

@@DJMtv1938 yeah it’s a horrible “ drug “ that ain’t it,and seen for years now how bad Stoke was with it. Scotland it’s Street Valium,or Tizzies ( Etizolam ) as it’s known. But it’s not limited to just that, white and brown are a massive problem too

I am a Stokie born and bred, since the beginning of the industrial revolution, Stoke-on-Trent was a poverty-stricken wasteland, but this is sad, we are in the end times of our civilisation 😭 nothing works in Stoke-on-Trent, and I feel sorry for the addicts. They're everywhere

Karen and Darren are doing no harm either, working, paying their taxes and contributing to society. They probably don't know it all, but they're on the right track and thank God there are millions like them, making sure benefits can be paid, migrants can be hotelised, the NHS continues to exist. No need for you to sneer at them with such patronising comments.

@@markl8740 I bet Darren & Karen are just so pleased about how generously the Govt redistributes their hard earned pittance to every Wayne and Waynetta who want a free ride. Not to mention Tyrone and Ahmed who have only come to suck on the Govt teet.
