Pro tip. Be sure the paracord you are using does not contain a reflective element. Same for all gear. Lots of packs have reflective piping. After setting your stealth camp, walk out and shine a light at it. The reflective element is great in normal situations, like when you camp at a safe state park and have to go pee at 0300, 0400, and 0500. Nice to not trip over your lines. But, not good if trying to stay hidden from potential threats stealth camping alone far away from help/

Use bank line. Bank line doesn't absorb moisture and get heavy like paracord. Bank line is also more compact

If I understand the scenario correctly, you're trying to get from a comprised area back to base or a safe place. That would call for complete stealth and not making bushcrafty campsites and using food that's edible without preparation or cooking, and having a known good supply of water to drink. I'm glad to see videos like this that emphasize the importance of SERE type movement and not building a pioneer log cabin with a "bushcraft " knife costing several hundred dollars. Building fires would also be a last resort. Might as well light up a flare. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to more

Wasn’t gonna comment but had to share. This last fall I became homeless living in my vehicle. Over time I became interested in how homeless people just kinda vanish in the camps around town. After talking to many they told me about Leo’s hunting for their camps with thermal drones at night. Many showed me how they hid from drones, many were vets. The money I was saving up for an apartment I spent on a drone, then a PVS 14 plus a Flir breech and it became a game of cat and mouse, hunting the hunters. I have not had so much fun since I was a kid. Now I share all my stealth findings with the homeless to live in peace. Stealth camping has many challenges with the zombies high tech. Most high tech can be overcome with cheap low tech. I like your vid concept but you really need to step up you game with some cheap gear. Thanks

Great tips. Can’t tell you how many times a compass saved my bacon. Pace count is good but I also write down how much time. Which is important if the ground or elevation or descent prevents an accurate pace count, or if I forget the pace count. And especially if I’m not going to spend the night. Don’t want to run out of day light getting back to my truck. Got to know when to turn around. I usually leave the trail once I have a unusual tree or rock formation or when I create a trail sign or marker out of natural materials, Sometimes the return trip to a trail or road isn’t there or doesn’t look familiar. Knowing how much Time can put a limit on how far you need to travel before making another 90 degree turn. And that’s were the natural or created trail sign can verify that you are on the right trail or road. Using your method after shooting an azimuth and walking from object really works. But few travel by compass.

Sir, with all due respect, you forgot one very important aspect of stealth. Smell. Cooking, smoking, and even body odor can be detected from a distance further away than most people believe. It should be a consideration in one's plans. Otherwise, an excellent presentation.

Nice, Saving Azimuth for camping off trail is huge. Even after 100 yards it comes in handy when the underbrush everywhere looks the same, and the light changed directions in the morning

I have never been good at even simple math, so I really like using my Suunto compass with a mirror over the lensatic compass. We all switched to Sylva and Suunto compasses while I was in the military years ago and they never let us down. But if you like old school, I get it. Great video with good advice as usual. Thanks!

The Suunto baseplate is just easier to read and seems more intuitive. That 2 nd stage of rotate your body left 90. Then rotate the bezel to red in the shed and confirm direction. That physical step of see and do, helps mental realization of spacial awareness

I agree. I think it's also important that everyone have a good understanding of the method Stoker demonstrated and to be able to use a basic compass with confidence. Land nav is a game changer in your survival technique. If you can navigate terrain with confidence and accuracy then you are already ahead of most.

That is a good technique for traveling away from a road or trail so you are not seen. However, it is probably a good idea to go past the area where you intend to camp, to see what is beyond, especially if you are in unknown terrain. This reminded me of one time I was hiking on a new trail, and planning to stealth camp off of the trail. Just before dark, I left the trail and walked in a couple hundred yards, even went over a rise where I thought I could not be seen from the trail. Was woken up the next morning hearing other hikers on the trail. They ended up walking within fifty yards of my tent in perfect view. If I had followed the trail a little farther, I would have seen that it turned 90° and went right past where my tent was. When I left that part one part of the trail, I was parallel to the part where it changed direction. Good thing this was a recreational hike and not necessary to really be stealthy.

Good stuff here Top! I cant add much to this other then to say you can use the wet moss and branches to your advantage when attempting to conceal the smoke from your fire. One thing that you need to keep front and center in your thought process is the wind direction and is any of that smoke being sent down range where people can smell the smoke. When your in the woods or forest your senses are extra heightened and you can smell smoke very easily. This is why I train and advise my students of survival and anti detection is to use a fuel source like alcohol or solid fuel tablets. In my humble opinion this is the only method that other then a light detection source at night is pretty much immune from detection. It doesnt smoke or make any sound when burning and has no smell to it. In a survival situation where your life is on the line and you have nothing on you other then a lighter then by all means get that wood fire going. In a situation where you are evading detection with a plan, method and kit, use a solid fuel burning source to boil water and cook your food. Great video Stoker filled with some great info. I'm sure you know this, I've never seen it in your videos though, but, the Dakota fire pit is another great way to build a stealth fire. Minimal smoke that puts out some great heat.

Good video. My preference to canned food would be dehydrated or freeze-dried. Makes your load much lighter, and you can carry more. Yes, you need water to rehydrate it, but you have to find water anyway. Also the pouches that freeze-dried and dehydrated food comes in can be burned, instead of leaving it as trash, or carrying it out. It all depends on what your reason is for stealth camping to determine what you do.

Did a little 4 mile hike with my new loadout this morning. There's abundant water supplies everywhere around here. The only problem is the underbrush is absolutely ridiculous to the point that I'm considering contacting Randall about doing a SERE challenge here. (Kidding, I'm not that cruel) The good news is it provides amazing concealment after just 100 meters. 300 meters here will give you 100 percent sound and light concealment. And to me, chili with beans should be called chili with beans. Calling it chili is a little bit of false advertisement, although I will happily eat it both ways. - Phoenix out.

Per ICS rules chili cannot have beans,rice, vegetables etc. But that's just competition rules. Saying chili with beans is not chili is like saying traditional Mexican tacos vs American tacos, tacos started in the US so there is no traditional mexican taco.

I wouldn't shelter in such an open area, I would use limbs to break up the straight line of the tarp, I would not wear an orange vest. and I would not bring a dog along. At least not in a real situation. I would leave the roadway early and cover my tracks as well. Painting your face, consider a Dakota fire pit, night time only and watching the wind . Never be without a firearm. Dogs leave tracks and other spore. Dogs also mark their territory. Dylan Mulvaney and a poodle could find you in a 400 meter skip. All joking aside, a SHTF situation will be super serious.

Good information but, in truth, stealth camping is nearly impossible. If someone is chasing you, you can’t afford to set-up a shelter. You need to be able to move fast. If you are going to be out for more than a couple days, you can’t afford to sleep on the ground because of the risk of Lyme disease, which is incurable. If it’s too cold for ticks, that shelter won’t keep you warm enough to sleep. If you try to sleep with a fire you will get poor sleep because you have to keep feeding the fire (and it’s not very stealthy). If you carry enough gear to sleep without a fire, you are probably carrying too much gear to run with. If you go hyper light, your gear is probably too flimsy.

To me, chili is chili beans or not, doesn't matter. What's important is to make sure it doesn't contain soy as many brands of chili do now day's for some ungodly reason. Soy is testosterone, and testosterone makes fellers walk funny.
