In my opinion living where you do and the heavy equipment you haul I would of used 589 gear ratio. Dave and Diane they have a 24000 lb fifth wheel his ram is a 5500 he ordered his truck with 489 gears ⚙️. He did a video on speed to mph at 90 miles per hour his rpms were 2800 rpms. Just a little advice if you're hauling a piece of equipment with the exhaust facing the front put a turbo sock on the exhaust the force of the Wind will spin up the turbo wear your turbo out no oil to cool bearings

The DMV basically sells weight stickers, which means you can haul, it, they do care if you can stop it safely

That’s why I prefer a 5500. Bigger truck brakes. And a 40k rated trailer with hydraulic disk brakes. I have plenty of brakes to stop this load. The 308 is a light load for this set

Honestly the newer 5500s ride so much better than the old ones. It feels about the same empty or loaded. I like the ride in the new ones. Feels not to rough and still Comfortable

Just curious could you put a air lift tag axle under the 5500 and haul more weight? Of there’d be frame work involved. Or would the wheel base be too long for some of your job sites?

I was like damn that’s low low gearing. But 95% my gearing is solid. I really like not hearing the Rpm’s sing when I’m empty on the highway. But 488 would be handy for sure at times

@VBELTandSON I understand my 2021 3500 single rear wheel ram has 3.73 gears at 85 mph I turn 1800rpm. It's the 370hp 850 torque. With my 3.73 gears it came with 20 inch wheels the tires are 33.4 inch . The only good things are really good fuel economy and when I drop from 6 to 5 witch is over drive at 1800 rpms is 58 mph. I am at my torque of 850 . I understand about running high rpms empty especially with those big pistons and those heavy long connecting rods. I like keeping my rpms at about 1800 to 2000 when getting on the highway 66 mph is 1350 rpms. My transmission is a 68rfe. Good luck on your new ventures and keep up the awesome videos.
