Stolen Caravan, If Only They Did This!

We find a Stolen caravan when doing a cris check on part exchange caravan, A caravan for sale has been sold and a part exchange caravan brought into us, whenm we did a CRIS check on the part exchange it has revealed that the caravan was stolen. We show how to do a cris check on your caravan.
This brings home the importance of when looking at used caravans for sale you must carry out a caravan cris check. and also make sure once you have found the perfect caravan for sale, that you register the caravan in your details with cris.

Very good Mark people buy lots from private sales and lots are stolen. You should show you are Chris checking when buying in vans more often.

Let’s hope that it’s all an old issue that somehow missed being cleared on the cris and the police register and the people can continue to part exchange it with you or if it’s still outstanding the insurance company just charge the owners a very very small amount of mo eh to buy it from them so again they can continue to purchase the new van they want

As you touched on in the video, some of the information that CRIS hold is outdated. My van showed up as outstanding finance, but the information was incorrect. I verified this by checking with the relevant bank. CRIS is good but they need to improve and I wouldn’t trust them 100 percent.

I had a ELDDIS van stolen in 2008. Insurance paid out. 4 years later I had a phone call from the police asking if I still owned it or which insurance company did. Someone had attempted a PX with a dealer in Nottingham. I assume they lost everything or had to do a deal with the insurance company.

Worth also mentioning that the majority of insurance companies won't pay out a theft claim unless the caravan is CRIS registered to the owner. Even on European manufactured caravans.

Cris is not 100%. When we traded in our old caravan, it came back with outstanding finance. This was down to a dealer selling a "ACE" caravan (ours was a swift, but all part of the same group), incorrectly filling out the VIN number. Cris didn't bother checking that the make/model didn't match the VIN number and listed the outdtanding finance against our van. All down to a typo. Nearly ruined the deal but once the dealer saw the models didn't match, they were happy to complete the deals and get CRIS to fix their mistake. (they should have checked before listing the outstanding finance against our caravan.

Purchased a used caravan privately, didn't register at the time. Obviously think I should but CRIS only allows a certain date timeline. Would it be worth ringing so that my purchase date is put on documents correctly

If from a dealer as long as everything is clear there isn't a need for any paperwork, and then when you get the documents if anything funny it would say. 👍
