Genuine military members do NOT ‘hang out’ IN UNIFORM in public places waiting to be recognized or talked to. Modesty is something that just takes form in us because it is shameful for us to risk making OTHER service members appear as ‘less’. As you listen to someone’s stories, pay close attention to the details. Big difference between graduating from Sapper (to include Ranger & Special Forces) school rather than just attending them!!!! It always amazed me how someone can completely give up their integrity all for a Special Forces, Ranger or Sapper patch, so unless you’ve actually been and earned those tabs (patches) it really is essentially just a piece of cloth.

There's a "GUY" by the name of DON SHIPPLEY who does that exact same thing and he is and always be a real NAVY S.E.A.L. Once a S.E.A.L. always a S.E.A.L. I'm a six year ARMY Veteran and was a 31/U Signal Support System Specialist and had my new neighbor try to blow smoke up my ass and tell me that it took him 6 months to do BASIC TRAINING and all I could say was "Did you break your leg....." His response was "It was because of MY GREEN BARRETTE SCHOOL." I then said "So that's what they're calling it now and not S.F.A.S.?" He was tighter than a clam with his words after that and after I told him that I was deployed to Bosnia and worked with an 18E (we called him an 18 EVERYTHING because there seemed to be nothing this guy couldn't do, great guy MSG. SPEARS.) This new neighbor is now known around the neighborhood as JOHN RAMBO all because of yours truly, myself.

Yes, it's clear who he was; and he did pass away in September of 2021. Even his brief obituary appeared quite erroneous. Nonetheless, I do feel very sorry for his family members that had to endure his delusions for probably far too long.

He can "pretend" to be whatever he wants. It's only stolen valor if he's receiving monetary benefits from it. For example, if they give him a discount on his food from that McDonald's restuarant because they think he's a SEAL, then it's stolen valor.

I use to serve with this guy. We both were sack P’s in this covert unit that operated near promenade-west and the boneyard. We had this intense 4 man operation where everyone died including him, but he came back alive shortly after because he had a self revive kit. The gas was closing in fast and that’s when he took out a RPG and took out 4 trucks of Opfor. We got picked up by air assets and left the warzone shortly after... I’ll never forget that day

The moment he said MOS he messed up. In the navy it’s called a rate, seals are SO, AKA special operators.
@mandmmilling37164 жыл бұрын
Alll sailors have a rate, or atleast the used too. Even seals, divers, and EOD. Only specific rates could be special warfare (specwar). I was an HT. Career path is boot, then A school, then volunteer for specwar. If you had a 104 combined score on the asvab and you passed the entrance PT test, you could go diver or buds. EOD required a 112 if I remember correctly. It wasnt a fair system because specwar rarely worked in their rates. I got some extra points on the exam, but that wasnt enough to offset not working in your rate full time. In other words, I had to study twice as hard to make up for the little practical experience I had. I heard they were trying to make divers, seals, and EOD their own rates, but it hadn't happened as of 2002 when I left the navy. I was a navy diver from 1990 to 2002. I went back to college and in 2007 accepted a commission in the army. I retired from the army in 2016. The reason everybody had to have a rate was because of attrition. Becoming a seal, diver, or eod is very difficult. Across the board it's probably less than 5% of the sailors to start the programs graduate. Sailors needed to have a rate before volunteering so they had a skill if they didnt make it.
