If a person going through life hasn't acquired knowledge, no teacher can teach him anything.

What you say is true. And to add to that I think history shows us that it is easier to teach people to hate than to think.

One would hope that people could look back at history and learn from it. But it seems to be a long shot. Supposedly history shows us that empires go through seven stages, and we appear to be in stage 7.

That is truly sad but it doesn’t have to be that way if we resist where others failed to. Apathy is the enemy!

While you are travelling stop by the Gettysburg Memorial. View the thousands and thousands of graves of Northern Soldiers who died JUST TO FREE THE SLAVES! The cause of Abolitionism had been fermenting for decades and Northern states had been outlawing slavery all along. The politicians had been struggling over Federalism versus "States' Rights" for only a few years before Lincoln inherited the debate. The soldiers died for FREEDOM FOR THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO WERE ENSLAVED, and not much for the political justifications. That "Monument" is to "honor" slave owner generals and their "noble" culture of owning humans and profiting from their forced labor............................elsullo

I agree with you and it’s a sad piece of history but it’s helpful to keep in mind that people tend to continue to do what was done by those before them. Change happens very slowly. Minds change very slowly. And as much as the thought of slavery is abhorrent to us now it has been with us for thousands of years and has been commonly seen in nearly every nation on the planet. It was a common practice for nations when they went to war to either annihilate their adversary or make them their slaves. We are blessed to live in a much kinder gentler world today. It’s much easier for us to do the right thing than those who went before us. So before we get on our high horses and criticize those who lived in the past we would do well to thank God that we don’t have to face the harsh realities that were a part of their reality. To say, “ I would never do a thing like that” is easy for those who have history as their teacher and the blessing of ample choices and a world of plenty and full bellies.

I'd love to visit this Monument! Never heard of it until today. Looks magnificent. Sure hope they dont cave to the liberal pressure to change or remove it. Looks like its rumored they already took down their flag which had a picture of the carving. Thats how liberals start....slow and steady cooking the frog in the frying pan. Dont get me wrong I'm not for slavery but as you pointed out the Civil war was fought for ALOT more than just that. The North pushed that ugly truth to the forefront to appear as the "good guys". Smart move. Doesnt change the fact that there were alot of grey lines.

Yes. Lincoln had to unify the country and the south was threatening to secede over lack of recognition over states rights issues. We are taught today that it was all about slavery and that was part of it but it was a much larger issue of the limit of states rights. We are at a point today where we are challenged by the conflict between rights and personal freedoms vs. responsibility to federal mandates and “emergency executive actions”. I believe our governments overreach is abusive. They are creating and exaggerating crises’ in order to extend their power and once they get more power they will never give it up. Socialism is a monster that is always hungry and is never satisfied until it’s host is dead.

@@MaxHeadspace9mm Amen to that brother! Anyway to keep socialism and communism out of America is good with me! Sadly it appears to be forcing its way here. Just hope we wake up in time.

@@MrBrad777c We ALREADY HAVE SOCIALISM, but it is for the RICH PEOPLE who do not pay a fair share of taxes, and who select who we get to vote for, with their donations. All the rest of us get to pay to support THEM............................elsullo

@@elsullo2 Yes I would agree with you to an extent.....however in true socialism you have no middle class....and I'm still here. So that means there is a chance to turn this around....albeit a small chance. Once the poor get a taste of freebies they are nearly impossible to bring back. Everything REALLY starts tho with gun rights. If they can take away our right to bear arms THEN they have everything they need to force our hand. Stand strong brother!
