This has an absolutely special place in my heart. When I was super young (I'm 39 now) my dad lived in Tennessee and I lived in Texas, I may have been about 10 or so when I re-met him. My parents got a divorce when I was really young and I only had ever seen pictures and super faint memories. I started going up there for like a month and a half every summer, and that first summer my sister and I were going thru his CD collection and she played this song. I felt like I knew it, like my dad played it alot before or something? But I was obsessed in learning the lyrics for some reason, I played the thing over and over and over in my head phones, and got the booklet in the sleeve that had the lyrics. I remember vividly them looking hand written, I couldn't figure out if my dad had written them down or if it came that way. But I used the book to learn the lyrics, and now that song is a deep and secure anchor point to my young childhood and my father. Found out he had lung and then brain cancer about 2 years ago, he went downhill fast so I quickly took my 1 year old son out to see him, my dad's only grandchild by blood. He gave me a ring to give to him when he got old enough, just something to pass down. I had my second child about 8 months before he passed, we all flew up there to have him meet his grand daugher. I've never seen or heard him cry before, it was tough. A week later, I flew back up because his wife text me and said he wasn't doing well, my brother and I got to see him one last time in his long time friend's guest bedroom. My brother and I went back to dad's house to get it ready to have him come in to act as a hospice, but before we could even get the furniture moved for a gurney, his wife showed back up to tell us he had passed. This song still serves as a powerful anchor point for me, and the fact that you've got the actual lyrics sleeve book writing them out as they are being said in the song, it means the world to me.

I saw them May 9th 1997 in New Orleans, La off the Tiny Music tour. Wish I had seen them for Core and Purple, but I was too young to make these type of decisions. But let me tell you, it was honestly the best show ive been to out of like 50 concerts, fests etc. they played for nearly 3 hours, they even had a acoustic mtv unplugged esque set, with sofas, chairs, drop down where they performed some songs again acoustically, and others that weren’t yet. It was a memory that ill cherish forever, and a great show! They oerformed creep twice, and in both acoustic and electric versions he did the alternate higher second verse, it was amazing. But I do understand, as I missed out on Pearl Jam, AIC, Soundgarden, so many more. I did see a ton of bands tho.
