Always start these bikes from cold with the fast idle lever engaged and no throttle, really easy to flood. Youre master cylinders are missing their dampers by the looks of it. Really enjoying this series

Hello, I just discovered your channel and the truth is that I really like it, I don't know if you know from forums, or from the Internet, the two improvements that are usually made to that model, one is to increase the section (diameter) of the positive battery cable to the alternator and battery negative in the chassis, with this you improve charging and starting which is a weak point in these twin cylinders as it requires a lot of effort to move those 2 pistons that it has (there are pages that sell kits for Aprilia and Ducati on Google), other points What I know of to improve is that there is an oil filter update for one with a larger size and flow rate than the one you have, apparently Aprilia realized that there were RSV's that seized rear cylinders and they decided to install a larger filter with a cover larger filter to increase lubrication... I was the happy owner of an RSV 1000 r Factory and in that time I learned a lot from them, later I have had 3 more Aprilias and right now I have a Tuono V4 Factory '16... make those modifications and believe me they will work for you very satisfying. Greetings and continue pampering your frames... I will continue watching your videos every time I can...

Really enjoyed watching these vlogs. When you turn on the ignition the rev counter will swing onto what the flashing rev limiter is set at. You could do with adjusting this to 11k as the flashing light will get on your nerves if left at 6k. A simple google search will tell you how to do it 👍

Very impressive. Couple of things. Being in a cold and wet climate I would get yourself a Brake fluid moisture tester. Brake fluid absorbs moisture at a helluva rate and once the moisture content reaches 3% your fluid is stuffed. if it reaches 5% you are going to boil the water in the fluid and the brakes may lock on with disastrous results. I would have used a new air filter because after that length of time the material will start to break down. Oh and one other thing, you need a bigger shed 😁😁

On old plastic parts and rubber taking some heat to it brings them back around to new looking again. I wouldn't test this trick out on things youre not willing to repaint until you've got the skill down, but I'm very surprised at the results I've had with a few things

Great work. Couple of tips to save you some hassle. Letting the bike warm up until the fans cut in to measure oil level does NOT work no matter how many people say it does. The bike needs a quick 20 minute ride to find the accurate level. Also if you fill the coolant system on a paddock stand as opposed to the side stand, there's a good chance you'll get trapped air in the system on these bikes, which 'may' cause you issues. Lastly, more an observation; the crankcase drain plug doesn't appear oem. The original should have a prominent magnetic tip and does NOT have a sealing washer. Enjoying the videos and the chilled vibe 👌

If you measure the size of those injector O-rings, then buy some generic ones, a few sizes, you should find some that fit. After all, I very much doubt that Aprillia manufactured their own O-rings.

I've had a similar issue with the front brakes on a Triump Tiger 855i, thats sat for a couple of years, as you were having with the clutch. No leaks but still it wouldn't work. My thought is it has to do with brake fluid being hydroscopic. Once the brakefluid accumulates a lot of water you basically try to use water instead of brakefluid to do the work. Thats my guess anyway. Please keep making these videos. I really like them. Cheers

What astonishes me is that injector seals for a relatively modern Italian bike aren't available. What does this say about the viability of owning these? By comparison, I can order new OE or aftermarket seals for my BMW K100 from about two dozen different places, which is probably why there are so many of them still on the road.

Get yourself a Chinese Diesel Heater for your workshop, it will keep you toasty all winter long, and they are pennies to run. They cost about £100 to buy, then it is just the cost of Kerosene, don't use diesel it is dirty and smelly, put it on for an hour before you go out to the shed, and you will wonder why you never bought one before.

You're surely kidding that Aprilia used a bespoke, unique O ring that's not available anywhere else ..... and then discontinued it!!! Do they want their bikes to become expensive scrap in short order? Instead of 2 x O rings costing pennies, you have to buy a whole throttle body unit? Sorry, hard to credit. What brand are the injectors, for a start; someone suggested VW?

Not sure what paint Brembo used on those master cylinder caps, but it is awful! I put a 2nd hand one (from a Falco) on my Bimota Dieci (which used a Yamaha master cylinder with Brembo calipers, which didn't give any brake feel), and my quick tart up of the cap has lasted far longer than the original finish. Do you have the diaphragm in place under the cap? If not them water vapour can get at the fluid easily, and potentially fluid leak out. Looks like the bar end weight use an expanding rubber bung inside the bar. As you have taken the tension off this then hopefully you can just pull the bar end out (possibly use some silicone spray to help it slide out). Once off they should be easy to clean up.
@stoneautomotive
@stoneautomotive 11 ай бұрын
It’s a nightmare that finish on those caps, happened to my 748sp too! I wonder if it’s the moisture drawn to the brake fluid that clauses it.. Yep seal in place on the cap 👍

If you have to apply pressure to get the front or rear ones in after refitting tank then that’s a sure sign the ethanol in the petrol and moisture have expanded the tank. It’ll need replacing with a used one whilst you dry store the original a good 6 months to shrink back then epoxy line it. With these it’s not if but when they go, trust me. Also worth balancing TBs if not already done and check clutch slave cylinder for leaks. If leaking best to replace with Oberon aftermarket item. People rave about Ducatis of this era but the rsv and rsvr Mille’s were by far the better bike👍

Thanks for detailed post 👍 I do own a throttle body balancer which I’ve used on the Ducati, as the RSV is running so well and sharp on the throttle response I haven’t played with them.. yet lol

Paused video to type this after the ACF50 bit. There's a whole generation of fuckwittery going about using the stuff on entirely the wrong applications. Like this. It grinds my gears! I need to explain a few things here. I was taught to use the product in aviation, where it came from. By certified licensed aviation engineers and mechanics and inspectors from Boeing, where the product was developed. I've used more ACF50 on jets than you'd belive was possible. Pallets of the stuff. I've trained people how to apply it and how to fucking absolutely not. I could go waaaay deep here but I'll try and keep it short and motorbike relevant. First, the stuff is toxic. Heavily horrifically toxic. I'm far from a fairy about toxic shit but ffs don't be using ACF50 without a respirator and full ventilation. You'd freak out at the death toll from respiratory disease associated with working with it from the 60s and 70s and 80s. It's a cancer fest. It gets into the fine lung tissue and doesn't leave... ACF50 atomises into a much finer mist of particles than nearly anything else. By design. Then the particles coagulate into an air tight barrier to stop water penetration and corrosion/oxidation. It stops oxygen... It penetrates better than penetrating spray like say WD40. A thin film is useless on metals. It goes on as a messy stickier coat on aircraft INTERIOR airframe structure. Over primed high grade aluminium that's riveted together as a fuselage structure. The chemical compond penetrates between the components for long life ANTI CORROSION. It stays tacky and flexible when applied correctly to handle temperature expansion and contraction between airframe joints. Too hot and it bakes rigid and flakes. More toxins. More crusty debris even in between threads. If tacky it gathers dirt and holds it like glue. You dont ever use it on a moving part. It seeps past seals and pulls a fine gritty paste into bearings and bushings and does bad shit. It impedes electrical conduction. I'm supposed to be keeping this bloody brief...😂 So, here's a chap using it to clean and restore rubbers and plastics. Clocks and electrical components in between a mixed variety of moving parts that are lubricated, including his poor lungs - never mind the bike's lungs. Stick to using anti corrosion formula fifty where it belongs, in the manufacture and maintenance of aeroplanes in accordance with the operation and maintenance manual by trained professionals in the correct environment. This ain't it. Hope this makes a few home mechanics rethink about treating it like WD40 or some miracle spray as this video very much just did.

Wow that’s the first I’ve heard of it 😳 Are you sure the stuff I purchased at the local motorcycle store is the same as you apply to planes? I know plenty of people that have used it like I have including motorcycle detailers, seems odd there’s no heavy warnings on the cans (for the potential variant I use)
@tonykeast9966

@@stoneautomotiveyeah it's the same stuff, it's crazy. In the early 90s MCN and performance bikes magazine mentioned it was an incredible obscure product that was amazing at protecting certain bike parts from winter. Via guys who worked in aviation who had access to it. It wasn't really available to the mass market and it was expensive. The hype started there and then. There's no questioning that it absolutely does stop corrosion. There's no questioning that they sell a whole lot more of the product since it became an automotive secret potion with the edgy "aviation grade" tie in, that every petrol head seems to get hard for. There's no marketting, it just sells. I know from the published COSHH (chemicals on site hazardous to health) information that it is the same product. The use on aircraft is regulated strictly by the aircraft manufacturer, so we had our paperwork quality control geek team study up on it to check suitability and offer the documentation to the manufacturer and aviation authorities in the USA to use the European spec product and an alternative called Dinatrol that was cheaper and sold in bulk quantity. Same stuff. Dinatrol is sold in both aerosol and liquid form and is better value. I've used every variant on my own bikes where appropriate, I'm honestly talking from proven experience here. The bikes I rode 365 days a year in the UK stood up to winter commuting because I maintained them like one of the planes. With some regularly pinched ACF50 or Dinatrol used sparingly in just the right places that were prone to rust or oxidation. It's interesting to hear my take on this, I've been told this many times for about twenty years and I pipe up about it when it's relevant like now. Glad to shed some light on it and make you think. Main take aways need to be: why use an anti corrosion product on plastics etc that can not physically corrode? Why spray a vaporized form of it at a variety of components, now knowing it seeps and sneaks in between sealed areas and clogs things up and catches tiny particles to later cause problems? By this I mean every nook and cranny you couldn't see or wipe off after a spray. Threads and connectors, control cables, pivot points on controls, steering head bearings etc. That's just some of the stuff you were squirting it around in the video. Over time and multiple applications it clogs shit up. You need to clean threads for example, it causes maintenance problems. On the health side... I'll never forget an older American inspector's face and melt down when he realised my full crew was using the nasty stuff without the right PPE and information I've mentioned here. He refused to be in the hanger while ACF50 was being used. He'd worked at Boeing on the assembly line back in the day. He knew things. He also had no testicles and only 1/2 of his lungs left. *edit. Multiple cases in Seattle and other aviation industry heavy states were settled out of court, as is the American way in such scenarios.

Fantastic work mate! I think the collector hose might be missing from the throttle side of your airbox. It's on the "clean" side of filter so a potential air leak there. Also might be worth checking the plastic one-way valve in the slipper clutch system - they always break.

Thanks Andrew, Shall look into the airbox hose and the slipper clutch one way valve, I wasn’t even aware it had such a system for the slipper clutch until others had mentioned it being a weak spot on the design with the age of these now 👍
