Other than the one your brother did a couple years ago, do you have a video showing how to go around a window in a shower wall? And also type of shower pan to use. Need to keep this very inexpensive. Thanx for any ideas you can offer.
@mitchquist

I'll do my shower pan tutorial asap. We'll be installing shower walls in a few weeks with a window in the middle of the panel. For the shower pan, I'm going to use a pre sloped foam pan from ardex or shlutter. Ardex has a really diy friendly sharkbite style drain connection. I'll use a thin layer of flooring epoxy about q oz per sqft, after thin setting the shower pan down and waterproofing. I'll broadcast small partical size colored quartz sand until the quartz stays dry. Next day, clean off all loose quartz sand, use a nylon brush or broom to knock off any loose quartz, and vacuum clean. Apply a very thin layer of polyaspartic top coat with added non skid additive or you can omit the top coat, the large test I did on pink foam just like this didn't have a topcoat, I placed it in front of our coffee maker at work. We've walked all over it with boots and shoes for 6 plus months, and it's still solid.

How do you adhere two panels to make one large panel? In another video, you mentioned contractor's masking tape. Is that the recommendation? Also, would you still recommend 1/2" foam if the finished panel needs to be made from two pieces of foam?

Would a really good heat gun work instead of a propane torch? Propane does have oil in it and that could spit out into your epoxy causing issues such as bubbles I would think.
@StoneCoatCountertops
@StoneCoatCountertops 2 ай бұрын
A heat gun also works, just not as well as the torch. We've been using it exclusively for years for removing bubbles but the heat gun does work well for pushing the epoxy around and creating unique effects.

33:15 I noticed you don't usually wear your mask when you're doing the scuffing it up for the next coat. Aren't you still turning epoxy to dust there? And if that's the case shouldn't you still be wearing a mask?

What did he clean it with at about 9:35 after sanding? Alcohol?
@StoneCoatCountertops
@StoneCoatCountertops 2 ай бұрын
That's correct, alcohol cleans all the dust away and evaporates quickly. We use 91%, and also spray some on a wet epoxy surface for celling effects.

you can't do a shower thats already in place, and vertical?
@StoneCoatCountertops
@StoneCoatCountertops 2 ай бұрын
Good question; we do have an epoxy thickener powder that allows vertical application, and we have tutorials for that (link below), but without the thickener it would all run down the wall, and we've never used the thickener in a shower application. Our best method so far is using the foam panels. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5XYqqmjgZaUkJY

What was the thickness of the foam you are using for the shower wall? It looks like it is over an inch.
@mitchquist
@mitchquist 2 ай бұрын
We use 1/2-1in foam for the walls. This is a demonstration piece so I used thicker foam so I can haul it around better to home shows and stuff like that

@gordonshute8816 2 ай бұрын
Where do you get the 1/2" foam? I tried to find it but I couldn't. 😢 I just built a shower, and I used 1/2" MDF instead. It's heavier, and I've had to waterproof each piece front, back, and sides before I applied epoxy.

How would this hold up in a van or trailer
@deaconyates2671
@deaconyates2671 7 күн бұрын
You could do it but it’d be best to use a real fiberglass instead of that mesh. I’d use 1708 mat, Total Boat 5:1 epoxy, wet both sides of the mat, lay out with chop side up, let it harden, 40grit sand relatively flat, then epoxy a 4oz vail fiberglass fabric to help smooth it out, cut it again 80grit, then, total boat epoxy fairing putty, skim it over the panel with a large drywall putty blade (like as big as you can get, like a flexisander), sand it flat in steps, 80, 120, 220. Then you can do this coloring process on a solid panel that can handle the vibration of being in a vehicle. Honestly, this guy makes designs in epoxy, he doesn’t make really make structural epoxy pieces. Watch boatworkstoday to learn how to make car and boat panels that will stand the test. Honestly, this stuff looks tacky to me, it’s like 80’s splatter art. It’ll go out of fashion soon, similar to epoxy river tables.

@CherryBowlz
@CherryBowlz Ай бұрын
Not dumb at all. He's converting square inches into square feet to figure out how much total epoxy he needs for his recipe of 3oz per square foot. There's 144 inches in 1sqft. You do length in inches times width in inches, then divide the total by 144 to get your square footage.
