I got the other ending (spoiler for the other ending) and I hear it's the better one: In the other ending, the main character is buried alive instead of hit by a van or however he dies in the other one. His girlfriend comes to meet him where he is buried but of course she can't find him. That's really the only difference that I know of.

Al Dakota that wasn’t the point though. the charons whole entire plan was to frame all of them for what all of them did. they made them find that computer, and made them not return it on time. that was their plan all along.

So I had this on in the background (don't particularly care about spoilers although I did see the first film and thought it was mediocre) but then I heard "the John Cho movie" get referenced. I actually got to see an early screening of Searching last night. It's actually VERY good and one of the year's most underrated films (that I've seen.) Yes, it can't escape the Unfriended comparison if you seen both but with a few exceptions the idea of everything taking place on a computer screen in various programs and internet browsers is handled much more realistically and you can see it trying to create and much more broader range of emotions then " a ghost is attacking us" (which it mostly achieves.) It suffers from an ending that's not as dark as it should be but I can't deny I was on the edge of my seat right from the most inventive and best opening sequence you will see this year. Definitely worth seeking out if you get the chance.

To me it was totally different. I loved the concept of the desktop. Very interesting, you can look for Easter eggs and all that and it was also awesome to see how they all realized what kind of computer the kid was dealing with and what went down through out the movie and if u have a open mind and you will love this movie with a twist ending.

I loved it. Just like I enjoyed watching you guys on 1 stationary camera for half an hour. The desktop thing is the best part of the film. It's like being on KZbin. Maybe it's a generational thing.

Here's the thing, the "Unfriended" part really throws me given that it literally has zero to do with the first movie. Now, if they'd simply titled it "Dark Web" and had it be what amounts to a spiritual sequel instead of a direct sequel, it would have a chance to stand on its own as opposed to using the first movie as shoulders to stand on.

The thing that gets me about movie budgets is the marketing. I always assumed marketing was figured into Hollywood budgets, but it's a whole separate thing. I'm certain this movie will make money, but it will probably have to pull in a few more million before it's profitable.

I thought of my own version of the first Unfriended to make it better and scarier. Aside from making the characters smarter and not sacrificing realism for the sake of dramatic scares, there are a bunch of details I want to change about the threat to make it somewhat more original, scary and give the visual style a point. Like Ben Drowned, I want a twist where it turns out that it wasn’t Laura’s ghost, but an ancient, unknown demon impersonating her. Like Simulacra, I want the demon to tie into the theme of technology and deception somehow. I want to have the coincidental detail of the characters all turning out to be terrible people while also being friends have a bigger point by making the demon a somewhat supernatural jigsaw who goes around, punishing people for committing terrible crimes (I might even have a twist where it turns out that the demon trapped these teenagers inside some sort of digital purgatory, though I can’t guarantee I would do that). I would also throw in several moments that makes Blair (and by extension, the audience), question what’s real and what isn’t. I’ll probably type my ideas on FanFiction.Net in the form of a creepypasta.

You should review Hell House LLC. It's one of the few found footage films that I actually enjoyed. Definitely deserves more credit than it gets. I think it's one of the better B/C films.

It's amazing how much better this film was than the original. I'm with Dave; the first one is ATTROCIOUS, and still ranks as the worst movie I've seen in a theatre. This one makes the characters someone likable (thinly sketched tho they are), drops the stupid ghost angle for actual bad people doing bad things, and fixes a lot of the editing snafus. Those three fixes make this MUCH more watchable. I still can't call it good, but having gone into this one DREADING it, I walked out merely slightly bored. I'll take that over raging anger.

Thank you guys! I absolutely Love when two people are talking about a movie in a civil way, and they happen to disagree on whether the film was good or not. More often than not, when you see two people review a film, they may initially disagree, but they'll finally come to an agreement on it. If I think a movie sucks, but my buddy really liked it, fine.
