Yes, keep it. It's been in your family for years. If you are not going to keep it then sell it, give it away the way it is. If you keep it don't go crazy fixing it up. Make it usable and preserve it as best you can.

I agree with these other subscribers Josh. You need to update to a 12 volt system. It’s a good idea. I also agree to keep the Jeep as part of the family is also a good idea. Good luck on deciding.

12 Volts-if for no other reason than it'll save having to haul a Cat battery around all Winter to jump-start everything else and feed the 2K power inverter to run your power tools on....Keep the 6V starter,too-as long as you don't crank it too long it'll last for years and turn the engine fast enough to start easily in ANY weather.

Keep it!! Reweld the front, you can add a plate to the outside to help make it more stiff, do your self a favor, replace the clutch and pressure plate and throw out bearings, replaced all the ground cables, seal the frame totally, might even check on under coat it!!

Was just about to suggest the same thing. Most of these companies that do the rebuilds, don't do fantastic jobs and it tends to be better to bite the bullet and buy new, as you'll only be needing something sorting within the year if you're lucky. So might as well go 12v

I drive a '49 that I returned to 6 volt from some hack job 12 volt conversion. Willys engineers were far smarter than farmers, cowboys and backyard engineers. BTW mine starts just fine at below 0.
@patrickstephens9211
@patrickstephens9211 5 жыл бұрын
Not knockin the 12v conversion BUT the 6v system is just as good as the 12v in fact the 6v wiring is heavier and direct replacement parts for a resto are easy to find and will last just as long. 12v radio's and lights deff kick more a!

that ground wire may be your starter problem . your missing the band around the starter . get purple at TSC for the degreaser . i would leave the 6v starter on and put a 1 wire gm alt on the jeep that combo works great . . got a bunch of those jeeps up here thats the jeep in fricknjeep . (the frick is for sawmills ) look how to work on an Willys Jeep on Y/T if you need any parts let me know . i still have a few parters left take care john

As to the frame 12 one way half dozen then other. Only thing id do, repair the from cross bar. And throw a coat on the frame. As for keeping. Keep the darn thing, Bet you cold beer ! After you're first test drive around the farm after its all done, you and the wife will love it too much to let go of it. Same goes with my 48 F1 ford pickup. Got it running and driving, drove it around the farm and feel in love along with my wife. So much that my wife and I are looking for a vintage truck project for her. Great videos Happy Friday
