I have an older model and doesn't have any of the problems you talk about. My bed has never tipped not even an inch. I bought mine because it is a farm tool not a speed machine. My friend was killed in one of those side by side that goes 50 MPH, so no thank you. In my opinion, if you want to go that fast, take a truck. There isn't a side by side that has any where near the load capacity. I have had 1,000 pounds of fertilizer in the bed and it handled it great. As far as pulling capacity I have pulled out tractors and even a small fire engine that was stuck. Very happy with my Kubota.

Thank you for the detailed review. We have the 2016 1140 which is the previous version of this. It has bench seats front and back and has been a perfect people and material carrier. It has a small winch at the front and we also pull small trailers behind it. In the winter (here in Canada) we also put a snow plow at the front to push snow around and it is fine for an average snow fall. We absolutely depend on this machine on the farm and we would keep it for as long as we can (650 hours thus far). As this is a on farm vehicle we are ok with it being slow :-)

Josh, totally agree. The 1140 is the most multi-purpose UTV for farming. When we bought ours it was one of only two UTVs that could expand seating for when you have visitors (or grandchildren) on farm. Thanks for the video.

Fantastic review. I really appreciate your down-home honesty and integrity. So many people review products with a light touch but you boil things down and even mention knobs that catch your shorts. As you say...Super Awesome! Your review has me leaning toward a Kubota. On the tilting bed, I'd check the cylinder for a leaky gasket. My farm bucket would sag slowly and I stopped the behavior with a cylinder rebuild.

Love your channel and your videos, so please don't see this as criticism (more an owner experience comment). I bought the X1140 new in 2018 and knew going in exactly what I was getting. This thing uses a tractor engine (diesel) and limits the top speed to 25mph on purpose (in the US any diesel over 25mph needs DEF). The engine was designed for ag work and low idle conditions (livestock maintenance, etc), so it's not a speed demon by any means. With the default tractor-style wheels, I've had this thing stuck in marshy conditions on a few occasions and got unstuck in 4WD/low without any tire spin. I don't have the bed tilt issue, either, so that might be something wrong with your unit specifically. I DO agree that the latch system+the rhino liner stuff they put in the bed from the factory can make converting it to a 4 seater a bit of a pain in the butt, but that's something I've gotten used to. The gear engagement is a bit wonky at times, but all it takes is a slight press on the gas pedal when you're putting it in gear and it slips right in. The moral of the story here is make sure you understand your applications before buying any sort of UTV. The Kubota RTV is NOT designed for recreational use and is a workhorse. If you get one of these, make sure you get the CV joint protectors to avoid some of the issues SRF has seen with his.

Agreed! It is slow!! However like you said it will pull anything if you have traction. I also hate that studio mesh bed/cabin divider. Mine gets stuck and somehow creates blind spots(I know it's mesh but I swear it's hard to see thru). As a work vehicle though it is great. I've had 1600lb pallets in the bed before.

I worked at a Kubota dealership for years and am quite familiar with the RTV series. In my opinion, you nailed this review! I've heard all of these compliments and complaints before. Another niggle I have heard a lot is the sudden deceleration when letting off of the accelerator, a side effect of the HST. Although Kubota may have adjusted that since I have used them. Great job & CHEERS! 🇺🇸

Nope. The engine braking is still a thing and, like almost everything else weird about this unit, was by design. There is a known hack you can do which allows the unit to coast, but I have found that the engine braking has saved my bacon a few times when driving over changing conditions where an immediate reduction in speed was required. Rather than slamming on the brakes, I just let off the gas and speed is reduced dynamically.
@Porty1119

I actually like the engine braking, once I got used to it. I use my 1140 in an underground mine with a steep decline entry so anything to make the machine safer and more controllable on grades is welcome.

I would look into a Kawasaki Mule PRO-FXT... We were really considering the RTVX1140, but after watching several videos with the same complaint (speed), it really is pushing us to the Mule Pro-FXT. It'd be worth giving it a look... it has a similar bed system to get you to a 6 seater. Love that channel, been great seeing you grow it!
@wildbill23c

The RTVX1140 is built to work not race....I guess people don't understand the difference between utility and sport. Want to go fast buy a Polaris RZR, want to work buy the RTVX1140 or similar hydrostatically controlled machines. The actual John Deere Gator UTV only did about 25mph as well, plenty fast enough for work. If you are worried about speed on the road, keep in mind you should have a slow moving vehicle sign on it and remember tractors don't go that fast on the road either, some have road gear but still not something that you'll get from point A to point B in record time with. Honestly after having an ATV and a UTV. I'd never waste money on one again. One of those little mini trucks like the Subaru Sambar would make far more sense and far less money and you get a cab and heater at a minimum, some even have AC in them. They also make crew cab models, and dump beds can be put on them as well. To get something similar with a cab an heat/AC you are at almost $30k or more depending on the model you get, and very limited in selection and brands for those options.

I looked at the Kubota but in the end went with the Kawasaki Mule with the diesel engine. I live in a high rainfall area with heavy clay soils and hills. Rarely you ever buy a bit of kit and outperfoms all your expectation but the Mule has absolutely done that. My biggest complaint is the lack of engine braking that the CVT system affords. It has a bigger bed than any other similar vehicle and with the addition of a winch it is unstoppable. I have had it 18 months and have just over 300 hours on it. I would buy another Mule in a heartbeat.

I have owned this machine for four years now and agree with everything you said. If you want to go stupid fast get something else. If you want to get work done - this is the machine. Josh, change out the tires and get field lugs. I go through tons of mud and never get stuck. My bed does not tip, stays where I put it. My friend has a Kawasaki Mule. Compared to this, the Mule will be on the scrap pile in five years. The Kubota is a heavy duty tractor with four seats and a dump bed.

I hope Kubota is watching. I have had several including one like yours. I have found the newer ones, say 2015-2021, have made changes that make them slower. When you take your foot off accelerator, it's like you hit the brakes, it stops so fast. Hate that! I still own a Kubota 900 2 seater that I've had since 2008. This older one is much more peppy and doesn't have the previous problem mentioned on the newer ones. Still not a speed deamon. I put $5 lights on top rear of cab.

Turned it off and said try now and it wouldn't budge. He said something to the effect that if you pressure down it will say down until the next time you raise it but you have to apply momentary pressure when it hits bottom. I didn't get to play with it myself and would love to test it to see if this is the case when really using it.
