If you are able to turn the blade completely around, it works great to do final smoothing by using the back of the blade. It doesn't want to dig near as much that way.

You're going about it the right way.When using your implaments there are so many variables. Soil conditions change the game hard, soft ,dry ,wet, rocky you name it . What worked out today may not work tomorrow. Go slow and the tractor will let you know if your pushing it to hard. Keep having fun man my tractor is the best stress reliever I have. God bless

Hey pard I'm a motor grader hand and have been for 39 years you did a good job. You angle your blade around a little more and it will shed and carry more dirt instead of a straighter blade. Once you carry it up the back slope as far away from the bottom you can straighten it out and float the dirt out!

Hey man, that's a good job on the ditch! It looked really good smoothed out in the field too. I'm a motorgrader hand too, and it was always drilled in my head while learning, to not put material back in the ditch. Maybe cut the shoulder material into the ditch first, then pull it onto the backslope (your field in this case). Start closest to the road, and work material away from it since you didn't want the dirt in the road. It might be a little more time efficient... if you are worried about that. But on as nice a place as you have, I wouldn't care, I'd just love to be outside working!

It's cool to see so many people taking an interest. I don't know the lay of your land, but if given an option with a completely new driveway, put it as much on top of the ridge as possible. Less drainage issues, the snow is more likely to blow off in the winter, and, your intersection with the road has better visibility on top of a hill.

Wish I had an adjustable scrapper blade. Did a ditch along the side of a couple acres yesterday. Had to improvise. My brother-in-law loaned me a bottem plow that I used to cut a trench. Took a couple of passes to get the depth I wanted. I tilted my box blade as much as possible, dropped the low end into middle of the trench and sloped the sides. Worked pretty well.

Howdy, You did a great job on the driveway ditching. I have seen a number of folks who keep running a box blade over their driveway due to washouts, when all they need to do is add the correct drainage ditch on both sides. I have the 6' version of your blade and I got it to be able to do just what you did. Keep up the great videos!

I used a one bottom plow for my drainage ditches & smoothed it out with the loader, but I didn't have a fancy rig like yours. Your method seems fine. We all use the best of what we can afford.

Like we say on our farm, "It's a work in progress". My problem is that my driveway is in a bowl in a few places. One area that it crosses completely over my driveway is a rock vein with no way to cut thru. You did a nice job brother. BTW, I'm also a vet turned farmer.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating - you got a good result, which is really impressive for a first time. I agree with the one person who said the last pass with the blade backwards does a good job smoothing. One aspect I haven’t seen anyone address is why the washing happened in the first place. Erosion from the field side created an alluvial fan that filled the ditch so water started eating the road side. Your fix addressed the current state well. If you can prevent soil eroding from the field, your fix would last longer. If you will have sod above and into the ditch, you should be fine. It might be good to take some rocks to make small dams to slow the water down, but the top of the dam would have to be below the road and even then might fill in above it and actually create the same problem again. Slowing water down is about the only way to stop erosion when there is slope- we deal with this on our place in MO too. Good job!

Rentals are almost better than owning. I owned a tractor for a while and that used machine was nickel and diming me to death. Sold it and now if I need trZctor work done I either rent one or even better I hire a guy with his own machine and in the long run get more work done because they know their equipment and can work twice as fast as me on a machine I’ve never ran.

That seems fine. thats how I worked mine... one word of advice. don't do anything like that when it's at all wet or muddy. You'll just make a mess. ask me how I know. :) I did _think_ about using a single bottom plow first, then using the back blade as you did but I needed mine deeper. And my tractor is much smaller. Keep doing what you are doing.

Nice work. One thing then doing ditches like this you need to go twice as deep as you think. The dirt will silt back and grass will fill if in. Food for thought.

Looks good. If you drive one side of the tractor tires right up the middle of the ditch,that will help it not wash. It effectively packs the soil in the ditch to make it harder and it looks better too. Hope this helps.

Not bad. I didn't think a grade blade would have been strong enough. Soil moisture must have been perfect. We always used a single row plow first, then shape with grade blade. Really enjoy the video. Cool.

One of the things I do when dragging my driveway with my blade to finish off, is drop the blade and drive backwards allowing the blade to float as it smooths out any ridges. Just my tip. Like the video and wish my blade had that kind of adjustment.

Yep...it smooths out niceley back dragging...Normally I'll back drag about 5 times a year and box blade it a couple times too....gotta keep that rock fresh and draining well for sure

I need to do some work around my home and back into the back of the property, but is waiting for it to get cooler before going into the back of the property, but is going to clean up around my home and that of my sister after her contractor finishes building her new home.

Hello from Australia. You did that spot on , I did the same on my property so it's more mowable. Only pointer I could give is considering you've got such great soil , when you tidy up small windrows of soil or spread it out in the paddock use the back of the blade. It's much more suttle and won't dig just spread out loose soil if you haven't already. Good work your doing and take care .

Mr stoney ridge farmer, instead of using the tilt function on the blade your tractor lift link on the right side can adjust the blade in finer increments than the blade has.

Nice job demonstrating how to cut in a roadside ditch with a variable angle scraper blade. The only tip I'd offer is to cut the ditch a little deeper than you think you'll need to because the driveway will "sink" a bit over time and the ditch will eventually fill in with silt and other debris. I'm looking at these blades right now to redo my driveway ditches and cut in some new drainage swales to avoid having to use the single point bottom plow/box blade method.

I've been grading down an above ground irrigation ditch using similar techniques with my Ford 3910, but my blade doesn't have the same adjustability so it's taking a while. I use draft control while cutting, makes the cut consistent and driving easy. Hadn't thought of turning it around to spread without cutting, nice.

If you would slide the blade down towards the tractor tires it will cut and roll the material really well. Slide it back up more up and down to finish. Your blade should be adjustable for a cut and roll or to do finishing work. 10 years experience in the quarry business here. Great videos!

Use the lower lifting arm adjustment for time tuning the left to right angle. The pinholes on the blade are for gross adjustments . Looks good

I'm by no means an expert with my tractor either. Having said that, the only way I see you could have possibly done it any better would to have been to cut the part next to the driveway first, Josh. All it would've really saved you is one bit of adjustment. Looks like you accomplished your task with style to me, Brother! I'd be proud of it!
