Well...stay tuned!! It wasn't a TYM issue...it was most likely a Josh/Maintenance issue that I didn't know about. Newer more complex tractors have so many nuances that an "old timey" tractor doesn't have. As soon as I get it back I'll do a vid on it! Dealer was super nice and helpful!

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer My guess is an emissions issue. The 574 only has a DPF (which can be deleted easily) and it is NOT controlled by an ECU. Mechanical fuel injection and one of the only and biggest tractors that is made like this. Very desirable right now with all these ridiculous and problematic emissions standards.

Josh, I had a Ford 5000 55hp tractor that pulled a Servis 15 ft batwing. Your Woods batwing is a light duty compared to my Servis. Servis was bought out by Rhino equipment. Most tractors today have so much electronics to help it run. The only thing when cutting tough grass you would need to slow down to cut it.

I've got an older John Deere 2350, but I like to engage and disengage my PTO with the engine at lower RPM to make it easier on the PTO clutch and brake. Maybe 1000-1500 on engage, but definitely bring the tractor to idle or just above for disengage. Mine has a manually operated valve for engaging the PTO, so you can feather it a little when engaging. Most tractors (at least those 40 years old or less) have a PTO brake, so disengaging something like that batwing at high RPM will wear out the PTO brake faster. Let the engine slow it down, then disengage.

I have the same tractor and bought an older 15ft batwing. It has pulled it fine even up/down/across pretty steep hills in TN through weeds that were at eye level from inside the cab with the AC running in 95deg heat. I was very impressed. Only issue was that I had to regularly blow out the screens in front of the radiator.

If you have a float position on one of your valve levers you can put both wings on one outlet. Float will lower both, the other two positions will raise one side or the other. You do have to use gravity to hold the one side while raising the other. I do it all the time.

You could make a manifold to run left and right wings out of galvanized pipe fittings. You could run 2 remotes one up and down and one for wings if you only have 1 hose for each cylinder.

I work on farm tractors for a living. I can tell you that if you keep engaging the pto at high rpm it's going to twist that little input shaft right into. And its slipping the pto clutches to causing premature wear on them.and that goes for a kubota ,or a John deer in that hp range too.and also with the new tractors that have the regen system on it don't let it idle.i always run engine for about 20 to 30 seconds and then I set it at 1500 to 2000 rpm.that way it won't need to do the crazy regen burn as often. 👍

Yeah there is no benefit engaging the PTO at high RPM. I live in Australia and tractors don’t have anti pollution stuff on them that result in more fuel consumed. What a dumb idea, anti pollution equipment requiring more fuel to operate.

if engaged the pto at idle speed it would kill the engine with this mower....the rpms were about 1800 I do believe when I engaged.....tough when you're putting something this big behind a little machine

That's cool it works. One thing I would watch is hydraulic temp if that is a hydrostatic tractor. Running for long periods of time under a heavy load may heat up the hydro fluid quicker than the machine can cool it. Fun times tho!

I have found that a yearly calendar for my equipment has been one of the best thing’s for me 👍 hanging up in my shop by my workbench/planing center. Reminder for all my tools/equipment etc. you said you don’t use the little tractor much 🤔 when was the last time you opened the hood? Repairs sometime can be controlled by just cleaning things up. The big tractor looked scary when you opened the hood ❤ I know I am a lot older than you but this saved my wallet once I got my calendar 📅. ❤😊

I can say one thing I do agree with you from your other video when your big tractor gave you problems. I have to agree with you I rather deal with a older tractor versus these newer tractors with these electronic features and figures. Too sophisticated for me. But thank you for sharing this video and I'll be in tuned for more videos to come. Have a blessed and fantastic day.

Should be no problem running it no-load. I could run it no load with my 30HP 1952 Allis Chalmers CA. The CA has between 90 and 100lb-ft of torque though which is comparable to the TYM 108lb-ft. Older low-RPM tractor engines tended to have higher torque ratings than modern engines of equivalent HP.

@Stoney Ridge Farmer WOOOOOOO! Little T may only be 55 hp but he's a young 55. I'm wondering if the electronics/engine management system will make the tractor refuse to do something that it really lacks the "Umph" to do or if it will just try it anyway and the only way you know you're overloading it is when it bogs down. Did the temperature stay in the optimum range? Did you notice if it was running hotter than it does with a less beefy implement?

@StoneyRidgeFarmer

Great question....remember, I'm not mowing it down to the "nub" .....this is clipping the tops out of the grass. Homework assignment...look up USDA Green Manure.....there's a form I fill out for my farm number every year...if you simply mow your land it's called "green manure" ....it's good for the land. Remember that photosynthesis is growing grass...once the grass goes into the "bolt" phase it stops producing vigorous growth....we wanna keep it in the vigorous growth stage. Look at my video "The Science of Grass" kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4uoo5t8qK5mitEsi=h1yH13yx0nVTOxgG

What's with all these modern tractors breaking down because the mizzen-welp and grommit sensors are no longer sparking alpha-beam charge centres? And the newer Dear Johns seem to be very prone to electronic failures! My 1976 International Harvester 475 has never broken down or had a day off sick once in all those years. Doesn't anybody make a decent tractor anymore? You know, with a Diesel engine, two or three hydraulic lines and a couple of PTO drives and nothing else! Can't they leave all those gimmicks off? If people want 101 silly things attached, let them pay extra!
