Josh im all about safety but those chaps won't help with a electric chain saw because it doesn't have an exhaust stroke it a DC motor chaps bind up fas saws on the exhaust stroke I watched a video a while back on this exact thing
@dalebargen
@dalebargen Жыл бұрын
I thought chaps prevent the chain cutting into your leg? Can you explain more what you mean about the exhaust?
@TheBigmark75
@TheBigmark75 Жыл бұрын
@dalebargen so I watched a video a while ago that explained how chaps mostly don't stop electric chain saws due to their constant supply of power to the DC motor. Now you know a electric motor produces 100% torque so because it's a constant supply of power there is no "weak" point like there is on a gas powered saw the power stroke on a gas saw is just that the stroke of the engine that creates power but when the piston comes up on the exhaust stroke it creates a weak point where there is no power being created and that's the stroke where chaps bind the saw and stall it out
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Жыл бұрын
that's a total farse my brotha...you saw that chain cut out right? When it's overloaded the motor simply cuts out...doesn't matter about the stroke...it pulls those fibers out of the chaps and binds up the saw. Instead of clutch slipping on a gas saw...the overloads kick in and stop the electric saw

June the 7th we had a 100year storm blow threw here. It took hundreds of trees down on my farm. I'm still trying to crawl out from under all the work it caused. So far, I've taken 70 logs to the saw mill, with about 60 more to go. The limbs and tops are going to fire wood. Cut and hauled the last two days. Rained all night and it's too muddy to haul today. On the 8th, when I saw all the devastation, I just wanted to cry. several of those trees were veneer quality trees. An 80ft arrow-straight cherry was about a 110 years old. Lee

You might need to put in some bullards to protect your shop from yourself. I've installed some in the past & they aren't cheap if you want them to last & be effective, even if you do them yourself. With the size of some of the equipment you have on your property, you should use something fairly beefy (which always equates to more $ 😭). If you accidentally run into or back into one with one of your tractors or big trucks, you don't want it to budge. If you are interested in some specifics (other than today's prices) I'd be glad to help by offering some suggestions. Have a great day 😊.

Josh and Ms. SR, have you looked into IBC totes? Split and stack directly into one, then move into drying location with pallet forks. Once ready to burn move it again with forks into place next to your stove in the shop. When we lived in the north I would split and burn about 3 cords of wood (9 IBC totes). If you’re interested in working far more efficiently they allow you to handle the firewood once rather than many times.

one of the small hidden benefits of rotational grazing is that you have a lot more flexibility in timing of fixing fences. No more middle of the night in an ice storm fixing fence because a cow will find a one foot hole in a two mile fence quicker than quick.

Gosh, I don’t miss setting T posts… I’ve got 25 acres of horse pasture all with heavy duty wood corner posts and all the line posts are T posts. I got a little aggressive setting a T post one day and the driver entrance caught the top of the T post, bounced off, and whacked the top of my head…. I was out for a few, so the wife made me go to the hospital to get checked out. No concussion, but 5 stitches! Makin’ memories….

We used to make bigger post pounders for pounding in 2” pointed cedar posts. The worst injuries always occurred when someone raised the pounder up too high and on the downward stroke caught it on the top of the post. The momentum would cause the top to flip over and hit you on the head or face.

Don't know if I would call the felled trees a disaster, after all you will get all that timber for your use for free, as you said lots of 2x4s and 2x6s. You have a movable sawmill, a wood chipper, a log splitter and all the chainsaws you need, all the right tools to get the job done. I guess all you have to spend is your time, which I know is valuable to you but it's not as if you have to rush to get the job done.

yes she does .....I agree...by the time we start moving metal she looks pretty tired. She works a job that's not very physical...takes alot of endurance to go all day on the farm

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Concur about that! I don’t know what your low weight was, but you looked a little gaunt for your frame. Look more nearly right now. Protein and weight room?

Enjoy your content. But I'm not falling in line with the electric crap.

brotha....I see no difference between this and a battery powered impact. Just a tool my friend....personally doesn't matter to me...but think about a homeowner with a small lot....he/she probably doesn't know how to properly maintain a chainsaw, weed eater and pole saw. That's the appeal of the electric...it save the land fill from getting all of the 1 year old power equipment that's been destroyed by ethanol gas. Just testing out tools my brotha....no falling in line for that. I encourage you to try an electric saw if you get the chance..just for fun

Nice thing about electric saw is its grab and go , not so with gas powered.

I was a bit harsh. And I apologize for a knee jerk reaction. So stoney ridge farm , I did not mean any disrespect to you. I have been working with battery powered tools for 20 plus years, but I don't have any intrest in giving up a big block chainsaw

You guys make a great team. This was a fun video. I’m down in Catawba County. Do you know any folks that would do a small Bobwire fencing job?

If you had a man for every chainsaw you have, 3 people on splitter, 2 on chipper, you could have that mess cleaned up in time for supper
