Chuck up with something like a plastic or wooden cylinder, and engrave it like a rubber roller stamp. Similar to those rounded stamps that do wood grain, but make it do repeating patterns as you roll ink onto something. Roll some india ink onto a wooden plank or paper. Could be cool for repeating patterns on longer board.

So refreshing to hear the joy of creating instead of the workplace drive to product at cost. I work for a commertial product company with a research dept that is struggeling to find the resource to do research rather than product focused projects. They pour graduates into roles hoping for creative inginuity but then sink them in product focus goals. Nice laser work, theres so many maker projects where it takes years of experience of different areas that the early 20yr havent had time to experience. it doesn't mean we cant match their enthusiasm.

You could use the in situ tape mask idea while etching the glass, then use a dishwasher safe enamel paint to end up with a more uniform colour for your markings. You bake enamel paints in the oven to fully cure, so to avoid cracking the glass, you might also have to be careful not to heat or cool it too quickly.
