STOP believing these 3 lies!

And then I hit you with the three lies everyone should stop believing! I'm not the one to give you false news or the wrong advice to do business, and I never will. But there's a lot of bullshit out there, and today I'm going to discuss some of the most common lies being sold! Strap in guys, I get a little fired up in this one.

Love this content. I have been watching your channel for a few months now but have really been binging the last few weeks. This information is SO valuable to me. I'm not trying to get fines, put out of service, risk my insurance, or expose my self to unnecessary risk and liability. It's all about minimizing and mitigating risk and liability, not saying I have a piece of paper in case.

First of all, IDGAF about any contract. Totally agree about getting in front of issues. I repeat and repeat and repeat every detail to a new customer. I could go on about that for quite a while, but generally I agree that guys think the contract makes them right so it's fine. If you're having an argument with your spouse and you're right who cares? Pissed off and angry isn't a good reward. Same with a contract and a customer. On very rare occasions I can tell someone has no intention of coloring in the lines, and we typically just stop there. Go take your nonsense to some other guy. The Facebook guys talking about running 90-100k are not smart. Overages however, and overage charges, that is a different thing all together. When you're paying 200-250/ton you cannot include 3 tons for a ten yard can, you've got to include one. Or close to one, but you cannot be pricing a ten assuming you're costs will be 400-500 more than the market is assuming for costs. We cannot give a flat rate, up to legal in a 40cy can. 20t disposal cost included when the competitors are saying 4 or 5 tons are included? Doesn't work. Even with the best service around people won't overspend by thousands. A flat rate all in, never any overage, might work in the south (or Utah I guess?) where disposal costs are frequently on the low end, or based on the cubic yardage dumped. I don't see the math working in high cost per ton markets. We are making our money on the can rate, yet the overages for being over included weight add up, but that's not the profit. As far as overloaded (physically over the fill line) if the driver can fix it, we'll haul it and we'll bill for the extra time. If he can't, we're biking for a wasted trip. If it's over legal, it sits or is offloaded. Third item? Ah, Google, etc. I agree, even if you're established you always need to add customers. Someone retired and the new guy's buddy is a driver/salesmen whatever at another company and he just moves that account away. Always be adding customers using every tool in the box available to you. Totally agree 👍👍

It’s not worth the risk to run an overloaded dumpster. From stuff flying out and hitting other vehicles, getting pulled over by DOT, chasing the customer for extra charges… not worth the risk of injuring an innocent person, your commercial auto insurance or equipment.

Love doing business as much as possible the same way. Call it "Old School or Old Fashion" either way I'm a people person who places high values on relationships and as much face to face as possible.

One of the best parts of doing this is meeting the customers. Since I’ve started I’ve done roughly 150 rentals and had two that was overloaded. Another guy I know in my area sends me a picture once a week of his over loaded dumpsters. We both have contracts, but the difference between us I communicate with the customers. I let them if they have questions call me. I met them in person. I make sure I refer to them by their name when talking to them. Essentially I treat them how I want to be treated. One of the two overloaded dumpsters apologized and covered cost for a second dumpster. The other guy burned me. I call it lesson learned and just put him on the don’t serve list. Not worth the time to chase it down and look like an asshole. The rate card is pure genius though.

Regardless of what industry and business anyone is in... Communication is key! It's the "silver bullet" everyone is always looking for. A few minutes communicating with the customer builds trust and a solid foundation that all parties respect and prosper. Thanks for watching.

Too many guys use the contract as a poor excuse not to communicate with their customer. Create systems and Scripts so that every customer receives the same information when I started doing this I went from having 5 to 10 overloaded dumpsters a month to now maybe one every three months You’re absolutely right dude. on all three points, especially hauling overweight. When I first started out, I took anything and everything. Looking back, actually cost myself more money and created a bad reputation with a couple clients. This strategy may seem like a win, but it is very short term and cost you more in the long run

You are absolutely correct. Create a script and system that everyone receives the same clear upfront conversation at the beginning of the rental term. I have been preaching this ( I don't like wording it that way ) but I've been telling guys there's a lot more to this game than simply "Banging Cans." Counting on your Contract to cover your a** is laughable And when you go to enforce your contract your going to spend a couple grand $$ too get a couple hundred dollars if you can even collect the money.
