Excellent video! I've been aware of this for a while. We ended up getting one of those cheapies for free, as a tenant left one behind. I told my wife the board is rubbish and that we should be careful using it. Generally it's used in the swimming pool. I went out and bought my son a proper, well constructed board. No regrets. In fact it was his birthday gift last year, and today is actually his birthday again! Thanks for creating this.

Great video Iain. I've been pushing the same message for years now. Unfortunately the holiday market brigade don't really understand the concept of paying a fair price for a decent quality board... this has always puzzled me because some of these same people don't mind spending hundreds on snowboards, golf clubs etc. It's not a difficult concept you get what you pay for. I would suggest a family share a decent durable PE board for around the £100 mark they hold a decent resale value of at least half the original cost....so use it 5 times and it's basically paid for itself.

I have ridden PP and PE cores over the years. By far my fave core is NRG now. Perfect flex but also recoil/spring for UK water. As I understand it this is a low density PP. I have warped PE boards riding DK quite quickly but NRG seems to hold up really well to this.
@iaincampbell_ Жыл бұрын
Correct, NRG is low density PP and it works great. Happy you’ve found something that works!!

I think for noob tourists, board rental from a local surf shop is probably the best option. I get why they don’t want to buy an expensive board for a week or two playing in the white water while on holiday. But as you say, those cheap boards are so bad for the environment.
@iaincampbell_ Жыл бұрын
This is more about education than anything else. These materials are so bad for the environment and it needs to be known! Tell everyone.
@XplicitVib3z Жыл бұрын
Another point you missed out on is that cheap boards they last probably a maximum of 3 times going to the beach and using it. In the long term it is actually cheaper to buy a more advanced PP or PE core board because of how long it lasts (my PP lasted 5 years with constant use). So if you keep buying cheap boards when they snap, the total amount spent on them will be more than what you spend on a regular PP or PE core in the future.
@iaincampbell_ Жыл бұрын
I meant to fit that in but thanks for the reminder. That’s a huge point that we brush over! Hopefully this will raise some awareness and educate people.

What are your thoughts on the entry level EPS boards with stringers?
