We bought my wife's very first car in 2017, a 2005 Honda Accord Coupe. Paid off in 2021 and it currently only has 108k miles on it. She's had a couple of minor bumper hits with dog, cone on the road, but still drives strong and has a tight front end. V6 engine as well and it gets up and goes. At some point we may trade it in towards a new car, but reluctant to give up such a strong vehicle like hers. So, she has Honda and I just traded in my Nissan Murano on a 2014 4Runner with 124k miles on it. Honda and Toyota, my two fave car companies.

I have a 10-yr-old Lexus and live in northern Iowa (rust belt). It still has almost no corrosion under it. I credit the manufacturer and their 4-step anti-corrosion and paint, as well as several car washes during the winter to wash the salt off. A quality car can last you for many years if you take care of it.
@darynflentje2 жыл бұрын
Go to the car washes that have a spray wand so you can spray your car’s underbody thoroughly. The mechanical car washes only do a quick little spritz of the underbody. This is especially important in regions where they use a lot of highway salt.

My next car was a 1994 Honda Civic LX. That thing ran great for all the time I had it, but had more odds and ends go bad on it. The multi-directional switches went bad for the turn signals and headlights, the pull cable for the hood stripped, the regulators for the rear windows went bad (a common fault with that model) and the transmission went up at around 70K miles, also a common failing of that car. The engines last forever though if you took care of them, and mine had around 100,000 when I sold it. When the timing belt blew in it, a person in the same exact car as mine pulled over to help me. "Not often you see these on the side of the road, what's up?" I told him what happened and he offered me a ride to a shop. His car had over 300,000 miles on it! It's not just the heat spread, but oil lubrication happening due to piston movement. If a cylinder is deactivated, the lubrication is not the same. So, the rings wear abnormally... and bammo - engine starts burning oil because a bad ring/cylinder fit. I would never buy a car or tuck with cylinder deactivation. Also, AnnoningBoss, I once hit a super fat raccoon in my Honda Civic on the Florida Turnpike (right next to a service plaza with a Burger King (and probably a frequently full Burger King dumpster)). Back when I was in business school, I had a marketing class and the professor was talking about how automobile manufacturers introduced "model year" concept way back in the day, and how before then, cars models might go unchanged for years and years. He asked the class why that concept was important and how it affected car sales. Nobody was chiming in, so I volunteered "Everyone can see your car and know how old it is." He said BINGO. A lot of it is a play to the car owner's ego.

I was an engineer at Honda **many** years ago, it was my first job out of college. I asked my boss a direct question about designing for serviceability. His response was, and I quote, "Not our job." Hondas are designed to be assembled on the assembly line, and when it leaves the plant it's out of the engineer's scope - out of sight, out of mind. Over the years people that ask me if they should get a Toyota or Honda I always say Toyota. The parts will be about the same price (often from the same suppliers), but the Honda will kill you in labor cost.

I like the accord still but not as much as the Camry also the older accords rode rather funny while an LE or XLE Camry just exuded comfort and quietness one year the accord was recalled for excessive noise either 13 or 14. But the new accord is quiet and comfy riding. And the 10 speed is smoother than the 8 speed. But overall superior durability the Camry wins all day long.

Yeah. I LOVE my 99' V-6 Accord. 26k delivered at door. A few small upgrades. I those day, I added window tint, a CD player(single) and a cassette player for motivation taps. Or you could learn a language 🤔 Anyway, I have done some replacements. It's natural, I drive or did years ago, drive it hard. I also pull it with my RV. It's great with the 3.0 for hills. And yes it's the EX. Had to replace odometer at around 150K? Now I only show 98k or so. But like you say, I'm the Only owner. Now,, I started having problems with the motor just.cutting out, then kick back in! Not dead mind you, just lose power, then kick back in. I could drive to a place, then on the way back. This would start. I could never tell when. So, I started doing some heavy looking. A smart guy maybe would call it " Research". Anyway, I had a lot of well mening help! What I got was replace this, it must be this. Or It's this, replace that. Fuel filter, you want one. Hey I can send you one I both from one of those auto parts stores. "IT Don't have one, to replace". Anyway, I took it to a local Honda dealer. Older or well used car, the meter dosen't go as deep? Oh sure...test drives by the Tech. And after they called me in to drive it. Yeah, it acted up, but by the time I got back to the shop. Ran fine... So, dealer new plugs. And, valve set...and not sure what eles? I pick it up, and engine light is on again. I turn around, drop "Him" off once again. It's a him as in "Jack", "You don't know Jack?". Anyway, over one mouth(I'm being nice) still no clue. Then, what the word is, I need a new Cateletic converter and OS sensor. My only question, are you sure that is the problem. NO 👎 So, I said: try the OS sensor. Test driving accross the Valley at over 109° with Air blasting! Jack is back!

7 years ago, I paid $5k for a 2000 Honda CRV, my first non-American car, and I will NEVER look back! The reliability is absolutely unmatched (I’ve owned several brand new American cars that stopped on every corner, necessitating subjecting myself to the snotbag dealership mechanics). And the rare times when anything DOES go wrong, I don’t have to sell my firstborn and take out a mortgage to fix it. In the past, I’ve shamefully neglected my lil ‘Anna Honda’, but she chugged along cheerfully, on duct tape and prayers. Having a new appreciation for her, I have vowed to do better, and I’m trying to learn all I can to atone for my sins, and restore her to her original splendor. I mean, who couldn’t love a car that comes with a picnic table?!

At least the windshield on that car can probably be replaced for cheap (either with an aftermarket or something) unlike modern ones that sometimes have to use the OEM windshields, especially if you have things like forward facing cameras which in some cases are part of the windshield and in some more extreme cases, the rear view mirror is part of the windshield thus making a replacement cost $1000 easily.

I have a Suzuki Esteem 1996, bought it 4 years ago, drives very nice, almost unbelievable for a car that old, the paint is not good, but other than that it rides better than my old Toyotas! I think there is a corporate conspiracy against Suzuki cars in the US. My classmate in the 90's had a Vitara. It was her second one. She was very happy about it. Not sure why they have a bad reputation. Honda and Toyota are supposedly the benchmarks for the industry. I taught that to my students at college. Now I am beginning to think twice about what I used to say.

Sat outside the whole winter wet season on the Tillamook coast. Never understood why no one didn`t buy it with the 5 speed & 2.8 liter engine. We were able to attain 233,000 miles before rebuild of engine! Still has original oil pump as the original pump provided correct pressure while the rebuild kit 1 had 80 psi at ALL rpm`s! Crankshaft only needed polishing as it was still as at factory specs for journal sizes. Of course always changed oil at < 2,500 miles as truck is used for lots of hauling of farm items such as the ton of hay we just finished unloading & stacking in barn loft yesterday.

I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey and it is great. When I get the itch to downsize I just look at not having a payment, maintenance is low cost as it is on schedule, lower insurance and registration cost and the luxury of the sliding doors just keeps me away from other cars. It is luxurious inside and I can load it like a truck for most items. Not a dreamy looking vehicle but I'm more about functionality, comfort and low maintenance cost - now that's dreamy 😁
