Tf u mean? Realistically, one of the big reasons as to why people call artists like pac the GOAT is due to the actual time period in and of itself. The music inspired people OF THAT SPECIFIC PERIOD. Yes, some people can enjoy past music and say they like it, but a majority of pac fans, ie the old heads love the dude for all the impact that he made, the souls he touched back in the day. There's probably songs/artists out there, 100s of years ago that was important to the political climate, the social climate of that era, yet I KNOW you ain't about to say that that person(s) is the GOAT.

Primarily, I'm a metalhead, and I have a strong appreciation for hip-hop. DMX came out with his huge singles when I was a kid and when I heard those, that's what I wanted to hear from hip-hop. I've listened to a bunch of artists across the eras, Eric B/Rakim, Pac, Kanye, Kendrick, J-Cole, and I like them all in their own right and they are great, but nothing hits that hard like DMX. His gritty voice triggers my affinity with harsh vocals from metal and his aggressive delivery just hits the right buttons most other hip-hop artists don't for me. It just comes down to taste.

1-The definition of GOAT is greatest of ALL TIME, not of MY TIME. Saying that somebody can't be the GOAT because you didn't witnessed them during your lifetime is in direct contradiction with the word itself. 2-The GOAT is based on the general opinion. You seem to be confusing YOUR opinion with the GENERAL opinion. If you believe Ye is the greatest, that is your opinion, just not the general one, which is fine.

@@allaboutthemurzic We don't know that. We assume that based on his skills at the time. Maybe he would have evolved if he was still alive, or maybe he would have not. He said he master all their style. And if you see "Me against the world" rhyme scheme he could clearly do multidilabic rhymes. He could also do fast flows like in Bomb first. But I think the events around his life and his death also push him to sort of a hip hop myth status. If NaS died after Illmatic he would have been considered the GOAT. Yet he lived and dropped also albums that people where disappointed in. But after a time he bounce back with King diseases albums. My point is we don't know for sure the evolution of an artist. Look at Kendrick, Eminem, Kanye or other artist.

Ot doesn't matter if someone is too young to remember Tupac. Look at how damn popular The Beatles, Queen and Bob Marley are with younger people today. Even playing guitar and bass trying to learn their songs. The kids are more than capable than doing research and saying who's the greatest. Plus Tupac never lived long enough to lose his edge or become soft.

You actually can prove good art from bad art depending on what the genre or style is and what's been established as the standard for that style. What you can't prove wrong is what someone's preference or favorite is. So if in boom bap hip hop for example complex lyrics, large vocab, storytelling, and elite flows are the standard if you don't have those skills you are objectively below the standard of this sub genre. Now someone can still like you for whatever reason. But you get what I'm saying.
@m_niwiarowski19
@m_niwiarowski19 Жыл бұрын
i dont agree with this, the whole point of art is to be creative, a artist should be able to use his creativity to expand a genre not stay limited because of standards.
@JD-ny3vz
@JD-ny3vz Жыл бұрын
@@m_niwiarowski19 Yea I see what your saying but I still disagree because literally in every genre or style of art there becomes a standard of what makes it said genre or style. It's why we have categories in the first place. An artist can elevate their genre or style or create a new style, genre, or sub genre. The point is not to keep an artist in box. For example boom bap hip hop has certain standards hip hop heads, the founders and the artists themselves establish which is complex lyricism, elite flows, large vocab, coherency things like that, on top of rapping on those boom bap beats. If I come out as a rapper and I wanna go down that boom bap lane but my skillset is not up to par I don't have elite lyrical ability, etc. I'm objectively bad because I cannot meet the standards the people within this field have set forth. Now you can still like my music and think it sounds fire but that does not mean that I am objectively a good rapper. Another example one of my best friends doesn't like Lupe Fiasco's music at all but acknowledges that Lupe is one of the greatest rappers ever.

MJ recorded over 140 before he passed away at 50 and that's not even half the amount Tupac accomplished in his lifetime. What would normally take most artists decades, the man managed to achieve in 6 years, and that's not even accounting for the number of films he's starred in or the time spent in prison. Im 31 and Pac was my first experience with Hip-Hop via my much older brother. His passing was how the concept of death was explained to me, because I was that young. But it stuck with me. While he isn't my personal GOAT from a technical standpoint, there's something to be said how nearly 30 years later, his music is still felt. He's in my top 10, and I still love listening to him. Still, I second the overall message of individuality of this video. If music speaks to you, it speaks to you. If it doesn't, that's cool too. On the flipside though, I disagree wholeheartedly with the notion that "you can't like someones music if they weren't alive when you started listening". Maybe there's a 21 year old girl experiencing abuse, and is motivated by "Keep Ya Head Up" by Pac. And thus, he becomes her favorite. Maybe that's the only experience she needs. We can't invalidate that because it doesn't fit our personal criteria. Bottom line, gatekeeping sucks.

I don't care to judge peoples taste especially with music. HOWEVER.. I half disagree with you that just because you wasnt born in Tupacs time that means he can't be your goat. Kanye is also my hip hop artist goat (not necessarily lyricist but you get the point) and as an all time artist he's in my top 5. however if you ask me my favourite artist of all time period? Its Prince or Bob Marley.. both artist way before my time BUT THEIR MUSIC IS TIMELESS AS FUCK... thats the point my guy when the music is timeless and you genuinely love it it dont matter how old an artist is. so if a 25 year old loves 2Pac music genuinely then thats great we cant just say that their lying because hes too young. Music you either genuinely like it or not no matter the era. Like u said, music is based on opinion. I’m 26. I see your point 1000%. Ye is a musical genius no doubt. I personally think Tupac is a part of the Mount Rushmore of hip hop along with Biggie because he was relatable and rapped about social issues in a very poetic way. Biggie brought word play and lyricism of course and dude had swag but I personally think Lil Wayne is up there with them because I’m from Louisiana and so is he. We absolutely love him because he doesn’t mumble rap, he has lyricism, wordplay and he had Jay z questioning himself after Wayne freestyled on his beat 😂. He obliterates other artists beats. Like ca’mon, every time you hear him flick that lighter in the beginning of a song, u know it’s about to be fire 🔥. But I’m still gonna bump my 80’s and 90’s rap like it just dropped

You contradicted yourself with the MJ argument , the thing is the music is impacting and being enjoyed by the younger generation, the argument of time is irrelevant , the argument is is the music impactfull to the younger people who are listening to it , your issue is that you dont understand why people are stuck on tupac because you are not , it goes against your own logic of choice and preference. If you have said the same for MJ then your point woukd have been more relevant. Because the same reason why you dont believe people who say tupac is the goat then you should have no issue with someone someone saying Tank is better than michael jackson your argument is inconsistent.

What kind of argument is this? By this logic, you can't call Michael Jackson the greatest artist of all time because you wasn't born in the 80s and 90s when he was at the height of his solo career.

You will never like any rappers from the 90’s because you were not born in that ERA and it will never relate to your generation…Obviously he would of made updated music 🎶 if he would of been ALIVE and his LIFE was not cut short…If you like drugs, lean, weed, and pill popping music 🎶 it will always be your preference…I can not relate to satanic music of the generation z population... 🎶 That music puts bad energy around me and my brain 🧠 is not fed…I just walk away with poison ☠️ fed to my cranium…🧠You need to speak 🗣️ about rappers that are still living and stop comparing them to DECEASED RAPPERS…That is a serious combative problem with the music 🎶 industry and Generation Z..You will never relate to “Keep Ya Head Up, Death Around The Corner, They got me Trapped, Brenda’s Got A Baby, God Bless The Dead, Pain, Makaveli, Hail Mary, So Many Tears, Me Against The World, Do for Love, Dear Mama, Heavy In The Game, Heartz Of A Man, Picture Me Rollin, End Of Time, Letter 2 my Unborn…Besides if he was ALIVE he would made updated music 🎶 and i’m sure his pen 🖊️ game would still be lethal if his live was not cut short….🙄

Has nothing to do with that lmao. I would bump Eminem, 50 Cent, Drake more than I would bump Tupac. Tupac had talent but let’s not get ahead of ourselves and act like he’s the GOAT. Even by the standards of that time he wasn’t the GOAT. His music had passion and that was about it. Other than that his lyrics were pretty basic, he had the same boring flow on most tracks, and the same type of production, his delivery was mediocre at best. He doesn’t even compare to other 90s rappers like Snoop, Eazy, Dre let alone any modern rapper

I liked Ice T, NWA Cube, Dre, Snoop, Da lench Mob, Public Enemy etc. 2pacs posturing and attitude towards music was like a sports player or a jail bully or a gang banger wanting corners. See if you can find that cringe video of him lecturing his producers about how they need to "not spend all night looking for the right hi hat, we gotta get this done, whatever a n**** says first or last on the track that's the title, this is a product we gotta get out". Really awful attitude towards art and it showed in the banal nature of his generic raps and tracks.
