That's not the reason I partition a drive. I do it to save my important stuff in case I have to reinstall the OS.

He didnt loose anything if he did do the partition. Nothing that anyone else wouldn't loose if the HDD crashed.

The pioneers of the computer systems partitioned. If they did it, you need to be doing it too. They knew a heck of a lot more than then these kids do today
@BoraHorzaGobuchulАй бұрын
Not so savvy now. Partitions still necessary on single-disk systems to separate the os and apps from user data. Makes it easy easier to backup and / or restore system without affecting user data. And if course that implies moving desktop, my documents and other stuff to another position. Of course, if the system allows installation of multiple disks, it's way better and easier to use a separate drive for user data rather than a partition, but many notebooks don't have this capability.

Do you create the 2 partitions when the O.S. is installed? Sure, let the O.S. create the partitions. If you watch the episode.. it states that you don't create partitions on HD's especially on the local drive for storage. Have a nice day!

There is a reason for creating partition in the main drive for windows and making it about 500GB, and the reason for that is: CLONED IMAGE BACKUP, keeping main C windows install on a smaller partition signifficantly decreases backup time & created image is smaller in size when backing up windows only partition.
@savvytechtipsАй бұрын
@nsptyty9617 what happens when the hard drive fails? Your image backup is gone too. Send your backups to a separate hard drive.

Title of this video ""STOP creating partitions". Dude showed us how to create partitions 1:48. Isnt that contradiction?

Wrong, the reason you partition a drive into separate partitions is it's faster to restore the Windows system drive if all the apps are on the D: drive. I have had only 2 HDD's fail in the last 20 years.' If something goes wrong it is most of the time a Windows OS Issue. The reason why it is still valid today to have separate partitions is this simple reason. So much for your Savvy Tech tips! Here's a couple of old but still up to date teck tip; 1. Two partitions C: drive for the OS, D: drive for all your applications 2. Make weekly or monthly Images of C: drive and make monthly backup images of D: drive on a usb drive. 3. Always store any pictures or created files on a usb drive, never on the system drive (C:) or the Apps drive (D:) 4. Never delete a file on a SSD drive before making a backup on the USB drive. So your premise is Stupid stupid stupid.

It's tech not teck. I'm going to give you my opinion on 1-4. 2 partitions for the O.S. and no more partitions, just install your applications. Create a VHD of the hard drive save it on another hard drive, flash drive or a NAS. Btw D: drive is reserve for a dvd rom drive if your device comes with one. Why are you talking about backups? The episode is about stop creating partitions pumpkin. Have a nice day!

@nitrophalanx Actually, if your laptop has a cd rom drive or a spot for one, go buy a cd rom drive bay for a 3rd hard drive.
