I have a very small spare room that these and a bench fit perfectly into. Like others mentioned the size of these are a little bigger/longer than traditional weights so they aren’t the perfect solution for everyone. However, if you're looking for a flexible and space saving design for a home workout I’d recommend these.

@Thor Odinson Usually it is an acute injury that happens on bench. The excessive stress on the shoulder capsule during flys will not cause an acute injury like a pec or labrum tear, shoulder dislocation, etc, because you are not using heavy weight, but it will lead to a chronic problem that you can feel during any upper body movement and think it is not from flies. It is like behind the neck presses, people don't get injured doing it because they use light weight and partial ROM, and then blame their impingement on another exercise because it is when they felt the pain.
@KevinFrasard5 жыл бұрын
I injured my coracoid process really bad years ago on heavy dumbbell flyes, and when it happened...i can only describe it as the feeling of when you pull something that is Velcro apart, and the pain was enormous!!! I'm not sure what weights you guys use or form but Arnold and many others used flys to destroy the chest and then would go to cable flys for definition. It's a slow build up workout it's not one where it's like bench or squat and you just do a bunch of weight. I like his information but to down the flys like this I don't recommend it. In his defense, he doesn’t say to do excercises that have a greater chance of injury. I still do chest flys, but there’s a real risk, especially to people new to the gym to overextend and injure themselves. People who have been lifting a while know this and are usually more careful. He trains athletes such as Antonio brown as well and if there’s a small risk of them getting injured, he doesn’t want them doing the exercise since that could harm their performance on field. My 2 cents

I'm 52 yrs old. After watching this video, I stopped doing the two arm flat and incline bench flies and started using the pully for flies by adjusting the hight of the pully. I also decreased my Bench incline for the 5th position to the 3rd position like in another video and find that to be a better workout for my middle and upper chest as well. Thanks for those videos. An exceptional kinesiological analysis of what I had suspected all these years . I rehabbed a torn rotator cuff about tens years ago and I used TheraBands to strengthen my shoulder . I purchased a set of different bands and used the same pulley motion by using a door anchor chest high and pulling the resistance tube across my body . The weight training facilities has been locked down, as are all such venues where people gather , over the past two weeks due to the COVID-19 virus . I live in Canada, and the pandemic may keep all non essential facilities and services shut down for possibly the next three to four months . What about doing chest fly on that sitting upright machine? It has a catch guard that is adjustable to save from over extension. I know machines do not work as many muscle groups, but it does isolate the chest and arms.
@yowsephh5 жыл бұрын
That is also okay. What you could do with that machine is equal to what Jeff demonstrated with the cable machine.
@normvlqtte65125 жыл бұрын
It still creates a lot of tension in the shoulders joints and you are not abducting across mid-line, the cable cross-overs is definitely the best. To cross the mid-line of your chest does change everything, the contraction is very intense. I use it to prefatigue the muscles and then get back on the cables after the big compound exercices - inclined and flat dumbells press. It works well for me and my left shoulder is protected.
@malenotyalc5 жыл бұрын
I'm also a bit gun shy with shoulder exercises due to having a rotar cuff tear that took years for it to quit hurting like a dagger twisting in the bone.
@juandenz20085 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen a pec dec in a gym for ages ? I thought they went out of style. Certainly the pec dec appears on lots of lists of machines to avoid. However if you are careful and can adjust the guard, it is probably OK. The main danger is the pec deck yanks your arms backward as you approach the end of the range of motion putting an enormous strain on the shoulders. If you have a cable machine like Jeff shows it is probably better to use that.
@malenotyalc5 жыл бұрын
The chest fly at my gym has catches that keep you from ever over extending your shoulders. You begin at an angle of attack that is never capable of flying back. In fact the cross over has more of a chance do this as there is no catch guard short of letting go to the handle which would be dangerous.

@khalid90855 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you’ve got unstable shoulders, usually feels like how you described after a dislocation and it does last a long time, but it’s not always caused from dislocation. When you’ve dislocated you have extreme pain and actually feel and hear the bone come out of the socket. If you didn’t experience this then could have been a minor partial dislocation. Either way it sounds like you outstretched or torn your labrum in your shoulders. I’d suggest get an MRI scan and see the doctor, most likely he will refer you to physiotherapy (highly advice you do this). If it’s an extreme tear then surgery is an option. When did you start feeling the symptoms?

I don’t really think the fly is going to destroy someone’s shoulders anymore than other lifts. However, it is true the where the fly is toughest is where the pec is at it’s least capacity. That is true, and it’s why I barely use flies anymore. It’s an accessory lift, and just a curve to throw at the pec now and again to mix it up
