You are NEVER too old to do anything... If pushups are too hard, start w/ standing pushups (hands on a window frame), if you cannot do pullups start w/ standing rows etc. My point is no matter where you currently are there is always a progression to start your journey from!!! =D

Hey Dom, I started watching your videos years ago when you posted your first calisthenics workout tutorials. At the time, I was a skinny fat teenager with no passion. Watching your videos gave me so much love for calisthenics that it completely changed my life. To this day, I train every day and can do all the power moves I thought looked amazing when I was younger. Your channel gave me confidence, work ethic and a passion for something I will never let go of. Keep up the amazing work man, your English has incredibly improved over the years as well.

Philip Chubb (yes real name) from Mindful Mover INSISTS that weighted calisthenics are a waste of time... he is adamant about using OAC progressions exclusively and not doing weighted pull ups or chin ups at all. He also hates weighted dips.
@Asadc19953 жыл бұрын
I have talked with him about it. And he is hard to argue against. It is just me but i think that the basics will not necessary promise you that you can do a Planche/front lever but they do however imo makes the learning curve easier. But those skill specific things still requires practice

Well I learned every skill trough specific training. Now I'm going for the crazier stuff maltese,one arm handstand etc. And I had never done weighted pull ups and overhead press. This is why I love calisthenics you can try milions of ways to achieve your skill.

So basically you recommend to get strong before training unilateral skills, and preferably by using a 5x5 stronglift methodology ? Put the ego to the side, and go hard on those fundamental movement patterns

might be more likely to compensate with bilateral exercises, so some unilateral work can be useful in making you aware of strength diffs. i see your point with 1-arm pushups/pullups not being the most useful exercises for most ppl tho

Thanks Dom!!! I suspected I was not enough strong (and I'm not doing any unilateral exercise), but now it's crystal clear, so let's work smarter and harder with the fundamentals!!!
@freehatespeech68044 ай бұрын
I'm training for the OAC with weighted chins. It's simply more effective to train both arms at the same time, and to avoid the junk volume that pre exhausts the assisting arm in the unilateral progressions in a non stimulating way. However, assisted one arm chinups also work. I know this because that's how I started training, which gave me a decent weighted chin up before ever training it directly.

Hi! I have a question. Cannot find an answer anywhere. How much percent of extra weight (bodyweight percentage) does an L hang add to a pullup? I mean could it altogether be 130% bodyweight for example? (as opposed to a regular pullup being 100% bodyweight) (I mean perceptive weight obviously hahah) Sorry for all that rambling but I really wanted to make sure that what I had written was understandable.
@Mike-jz8co3 жыл бұрын
hey dominic, do you think it’d be more beneficial to do weighted excercises or explosive excercises? e.g. weighted push ups vs explosive push ups
@georgschmidt12523 жыл бұрын
Weighted. If you are strong at weighted explosive will BE ez after some time. And its way more scalable and you can Track your Progress.
@youwantmyname92082 жыл бұрын
Explosive are good if you are practicing some transition movements, but weighted are mostly to build strength and aesthetics body, only downside is it won't teach you about the technique and was too specific
@bhardwajutkarsh3 жыл бұрын
I agree that sometimes doing an exercise with both arms can be better at correcting the symmetry than doing unilateral exercises with same numbers but possibly with different mechanics due to habit. It is not just the numbers, one can still have different mechanics on each side that can potentially increase the imbalances.

One arm push ups have been a life changer for me, because I never based my life around gym Or equipments. I do One arm knuckle push ups (feet shoulder width apart) and One arm One leg push ups, been doing them religiously for 5 years.... Basically grease the groove everyday, 5-6 sets, I terminated sets once form broke down, sets ended with One bad rep. After 3 years, I got to a double bodyweight bench press. 200 kilo bench, the first Day I benched, Not the first set, the last one, at 102 kilo bodyweight. In my experience I have never seen guys who can do 15 great planche push ups bench that much (I mean double bodyweight).. There is a reason why One arm push ups work, its a simple pressing move with amazing core activation. You are just pressing. Pressing a large portion of your bodyweight, especially when you do it with your feet raised to mid thigh height. You build a lot of tendon strength as well. What you are saying could very well be true, but in the end, its about movement patterns, neurological grooves. I don't do pistol squats, never trained for them, but I can do 150 straight non stop (no rest between reps) atg squats, my legs are huge. I agree basic push ups can get you very big And jacked but one arm push ups are extremely beneficial if you are looking to add slabs of muscle. Just make sure you work the weaker arm first. Match the reps with the stronger arm. Even if you don't, a little strength imbalance is not a big deal. Every powerlifter and bodybuilder has it. You were my One arm push up Mentor, And I am grateful for it.

Hey Dominik! Regarding pull strengh, do you consider the muscle up a good exercice to include in our workouts? Just wondering cause i never see you doing it or mentioning it
@coldfingers59153 жыл бұрын
The problem I see with weighted pull ups is that it's hard to do them with the form that I like for the regular pull up which is really strict chest to bar. Now with the weighted ones even if you initially have the best intent to not cheat, after a certain weight the body wants to cheat the movement. I think it's maybe because the lats are strong enough but small scapular retractors aren't? Just a hunch...maybe I'm wrong. It's very rarely that I see a really strict weighted pull up(even just neck to bar ones). But yeah they do give you strength even when done with cheating, that's for sure.

Beware of low low dips as well, killer of your joints. Keep it simple, Ask your self when your 20, can do it at 70??
