I don't feel so bad that I never joined a gym and I'm almost 60. I bought rings for my back yard 2 years ago - always loved the rings (at school). Mixed with boxing, running, dancing and a little cal, for decades, I find a beautiful balance. Resting heart rate of sub 40, and I'm not at the peak of any physical endeavour, per se - except perhaps punching speed. I love how you kept it short and succinct. I've always challenged the status quo - respectfully, it's healthy.

Just ran into this video. I needed this information so bad, cause my should is goin out. It pops when I do shoulder press. I was in the military and did a lot of pushups. But never heard of the reverse. Thanks so much you might have just saved me a trip to the op room. I've already been shot twice, stabbed twice in the head. I had 85% of my body burned. I was in a mortar attack and got shrapnel in right arm and leg. I've died 3 times in this life time alone on the op table. I've had 14 surgeries on my head by itself, much less the rest of my body, So THANKS again...

Last three days, I have been doing backbend pushups in place of regular pushups. It has been rough, but I feel my body thanking me already. When I stopped to think about it, I realized backbend pushups are a more accurate opposite to pullups. One reason is pullups require ab contraction, while backbend pushups require ab extension. And the same goes with every other muscle in there it seems. In contrast, regular pushups require ab contraction almost identical to pullups. I would say regular pushups and pullups are contracting many of the same muscles, despite their names. This breakthrough in calisthenics is giving me the motivation to get good at backbends. Before now, I always quit because they are just so difficult for me. I have a lot of hardened scar tissue that needs to broken up back there.

I’ve been hypothesizing doing various forms of pushups and movements for strength building in general as better for the body opposed to the same core exercises for a while now. The body craves variety for food and is better off for it. Why wouldn’t there be a similar effect with exercise?

Ok, first time watcher; just subscribed. Been a fitness enthusiast/martial practitioner for years. My questions: 1) If size _and_ flexibility is the goal, how does one encourage progressive overload with this method? 2) How long should one seek to hold the Support stand, on chairs? 3) How can one do this safely with progression with a formerly dislocated shoulder?
@LeeWeiland2 жыл бұрын
All depends...that's why we don't go into too much detail or sell courses...it's all unique to the individual
@ARRains-ox8ts2 жыл бұрын
@@LeeWeiland Understood. Given my unusually long arms, push ups still remain a challenge, as do pull ups, but they remain a staple of most routines for me. I have a few chairs that I can use for Support stands...and can manage up to 8 chair dips on them straight. Not bad for a 240 lb guy recovering from injury, I'd think. Thank you for the response.

Among others, I do yoga, calisthenics and gymnastics as a hobby. I am looking for sth. similar to this in europe, I mean a gymnastics club is a good address to turn to, however a trustable personal coach on-site is important but honestly how to know who to trust, everyone is convinced of themselves and their methods. Life span is too short to have too much trial and error ... why the heck should I trust you, for example? I know already pretty well which excercises are more or less effective. Still, it needs a long time with many failures to figure out how to integrate new exercises and how to speed things up without risking injuries and dead ends. I am looking for a solution ...
@LeeWeiland2 жыл бұрын
Right don't trust me or others online. Get connected. And you're right, it takes time, trial, and error, which can be avoided when working with a coach whether face to face or online, like the team we have.
@krishleysahani21472 жыл бұрын
I do have a couple of questions sir. The support stand is largely an isometric exercise. Studies shows that muscle lengthening and shortning is important for hypertrophy. Won't that be equivalent to building quadriceps with wall sit than squats? Secondly, You said that pushup is a laying movement, but it doesn't matter whether the body is laying or standing as long as the direction of resistance is correct. I am not at your level of fitness sir. Please forgive me if i sound stupid. Thank you.
@LeeWeiland2 жыл бұрын
static support is isometric, except when you start doing ring turns and ad & abduction of arms...or dips into support, etc. etc. static support also develops connective tissue in elbows wall squat is bent legs...the the more appropriate analogy would be the leg iron cross (middle splits without hands) bench is laying movement try a support in rings with arms locked and hands turned out for 60s
