7:10 I have a feeling that Steve was me? As soon as I saw that I remembered fighting a Seph on that specific stage and dying to an upsmash at the end. Do you remember the Steve's tag by chance? (I know this was nearly a year ago so it's unlikely).
@rednk91063 жыл бұрын
And also, if you ever see this, here's a few things about cart: Frame 18, Minecart appears frame 1. Minecart's HP cannot hit 0% for the first 17 frames (called TDM by the majority of Steve players). This allows him to go through moves like Megaman fsmash, charge shot or a slightly misspaced aerial. Due to Seph's great range this isn't much of a problem because if a hitbox touches Steve during startup (like fair freezing when hitting cart), he'll get hit out of it. Minecart has 7HP normally but in 1v1s it has 8.4HP. Steve himself has some armour but it's kb based so you usually don't need to worry about it. Can be jumped out of on frame 25 (I think. It might be a little earlier), Steve can act frame 1 after jumping out. Against Steve you wanna play in the midrange. As Seph it's easier due to his range. You can poke Steve out of cart and you can space around grab. There's likely a few more little details but this is what I can remember off the top of my head.

I think the cart grabbing you has to do with whether or not you were standing on the ground when it hit you or the time between Steve jumping out and the cart hitting you. One or the other, or both, I'm not 100% certain.

Honestly, going off with a fair isn't a bad "habit" if you can be safe about it by forcing an air dodge, an up b, or a trade. The red Bowser's first two attempts that he got punished for were just very poorly timed and spaced; he left the stage extremely late into your recovery. Like you said on the third one, you tried to go low but he still caught you. You also went low the first two times, and if he'd not gone late and caught you on those, you'd have lost a stock and likely been conditioned to recover high the third time, at which point he could try baiting you. But all Bowser players do the run off/fair at some point; he just didn't execute correctly. All of this isn't to say that I think it's a good thing to do that every time, however, and it certainly depends on the character you're facing against (Bowser's size and recovery makes it easier to connect the fair on him than against a G&W or Palutena, for example), because some characters have hard counterplay to it if they anticipate it. But in the examples in this video, he doesn't immediately lose a stock if he doesn't misspace his fair like he did twice here. For example, you (as Bowser) in the area below the stage you were in can't air dodge or double jump/air dodge through his fair and then recover fast enough to punish him with an attack and still make it to ledge before he recovers. EDIT: Also want to say that I discovered you this morning and have really been enjoying your videos and subbed. I may disagree a slight bit about this one point, but you've got a great Bowser, a great insight on smash fundamentals, and a great way of explaining your thoughts. I learned today about the little blue streak indicating DI on Bowser's up throw this morning, and I'm going to start incorporating that into my play ASAP.
@phy_3 жыл бұрын
Fair as an edgeguard tool in itself isn’t bad at all, in fact it’s amazing. What I was pointing out in the video was the way this specific player did the same run off fair everytime and kept getting punished for it. Since he was doing it the same way everytime and kept getting punished, I’d say it was a bad habit lol. And I put myself low in order to punish it on purpose because I took note of that habit. Welcome to the channel !
@iliya19333 жыл бұрын
@@phy_ If we’re being realistic about it, though, the first time something happens, it’s not a habit, and the second time he did it, you didn’t really have to adjust at all; he just put himself in a place where you could kill him. In that first instance, you did what any Bowser would have done after taking that side b knock back, which is fair and fast fall, taking you out of tumble and getting you back to the relative safety of the ledge sooner. If you didn’t fast fall, he’s in an easy advantage state, so it was the clear choice. In this situation, he should have seen that you had fallen much too far to be hit with a forward air off stage and edge guarded you from on stage. You didn’t dodge him intentionally or anything; you were already fast falling long before he made the attempt, and he just put himself right in your lap, making it an easy whiff punish. In the second instance, you didn’t actually make any adjustments to your recovery, even if you saw him do it once already. All you did was forward air to remove tumble and then hold left toward the stage without fast falling, which is as standard a low recovery attempt as it gets. His mistake was likely assuming you’d jump earlier than you needed straight into the Bowser falling at you, which is a reckless way to play at most. You punished him the same way you did in the first instance, but that was again because he had chosen a bad time to do it and put himself right into your lap for a back air without you having to do anything, not because he had a bad habit of employing a typically good edge guard in Bowser’s run off/fair. You started low because that’s how Bowser recovers unless the opponent forced him to go high, and then when he made a move both late and too early (late in that he was out of range of making you drift into his fair and early in that you could see it coming before you got too low to both react and fully recover), you just waited it out and punished. It’s sort of a watered down version of a Ganondorf trying for Warlock Punch mixups in neutral. It’s not a bad habit; it’s a bad strategy, and you just wait it out and whiff punish. And then the third time he did it, he got the spacing and timing right and succeeded. What I’m trying to say is that, if anything, the advice to this guy should be that a player needs to understand sooner whether their run off/fair will whiff or will guaranteed result in a hit, a trade, or a forced high recovery and allow themselves the patience to bail on a bad plan instead of that they had a bad habit of running off and forward airing, because it is a good strategy; they just implemented it at bad times the first two times and succeeded on the third.
@phy_3 жыл бұрын
Nah this game was a few rematches in, and I reverse edgeguarded him the same way more than 5 times in previous games because he kept going for run off fair the same way everytime. It was a habit. One that I already recognized which is why I recovered that way to reverse edgeguard him. The habit was careless edgeguading the same way everytime. And the advice would be to mix up how you go about edgeguarding and ledgetrapping to be more successful with it and to not get reversed
@iliya19333 жыл бұрын
@@phy_ That definitely adds some context to what you put in the video and makes more sense if that's the case. Him doing that certainly would have made you more likely to continue going lower than usually necessary like in that second instance. In light of what you told me, I'd say that advice is sound.
