I couldn't agree more. I understand some ppl do them for the look and some to make "intentions" candles, however they tend to overcrowd the candle and increase the risk of a fire. There's literally a silicone mold for almost everything as well as candle dye. You can make certain things to place in your candle using those things (mold and dye) to make it appear more real yet the entire candle is completely wax.

I know it may seem like an "old man yells at cloud" joke, but I blame "content creators." They make the items, and probably will never use them except once, but they look great while filming. And since those get more attention, people blindly think this is what you should/can do because "look at this person with so many views, they have to know what they are doing." There is a LARGE company that makes craft videos, in under 6 minutes, that has done this for many hobbies and crafts.

I stay away from it. Not worth the risk to me. Did you see the article about the woman who sued a candle company because it caught fire and she picked it up with her bare hands? She burned herself so bad. Now I have to put to not do that on my candle care and safety card. We’re not even fully safe from a plain candle without those additives. Fire hazards are inherent. Why add to that? Thanks for speaking on this.

I ruined a 120 year old buffet by burning 3" wide birch barked wrapped candles. It also set the wall above the buffet on fire. Thank God for smoke alarms. The candle burned down and I popped a tea light in the middle. The metal in the tea light heated up the wax more and the outer core melted down and the bark lit on fire.

I noticed at the end you were mentioning people adding the fruit like wax embeds. Are you meaning wax melts? What would be wrong with adding a wax melt blend embedded to the top of the candle? Most wax melts are made with tart wax which make pillar candles. I’m just trying to understand what would be wrong with that?
@StandleyHandcrafted9 ай бұрын
Yes, I meant wax melts. Basically if you’re going to add anything to your candles, adding more wax is definitely the best way to go. Obviously, there’s going to be some testing involved to figure out the proper wick with adding more wax

Can the wax from wax-melts be used to make basic not-for-sale candles when the wax-melt loses its scent? Or should I use the lost scent wax-melts for maybe campfire starters? I am frustrated with how much wax-melts wax I have and I just don't want to toss all that wax. I have some empty old candles glass jars and some small Ball canning glass jars that I was thinking of using for like emergency candles like when the power goes out for an extended time.

I've also seen candle makers that doesn't color their candles either Does mica and/or candle dye in some way affect the performance of the candle or unsafe as well? I know soy wax creates a frost look to candles which makes sense to have them dry natural without adding mica and candle dye but colors look nice also

Video would have been so much more useful and thorough if you had actually added the images that you mention multiple times in the video. Maybe you could do a second one to go into more detail about things that people CAN use safely in candles....and actually give visuals for examples. I use items in my candles and I am very strategic about their placement, type of vessel used in comparison to the item(s), etc. that I am adding for decoration purposes and I try to stay away from the items people place in candles that I call, "firestarters," like dried flowers and spices. Also, a little goes a long way, so if you do decide to use these items, start with as little as possible or that you feel will give the look you are going for without going overboard. And as you mentioned, placing something flammable in to a vessel that is ALSO highly flammable, just doesn't make safety sense in the long run - especially if your candle business is currently properly insured and you want to KEEP that insurance in tact. Thanks for the warning and reminder - its always good to remind folks that as much as we want a beautiful candle - we also want a safe one too.
