Nintendo isn't in the right, but the game is nearly twenty years old, full of exploits, and competitive matches are almost completely run on hacked versions of the game (UCF and Slippi). If you want a game like Melee to be online, why not do what Rivals did and create your own competitive platform fighter.

the reasons why Melee is the way it is, is because it was an accident, if you deliveretly make a game like this, it won't be the same, in fact, there was already a game that tried to replicate Melee's mechanics, it was called Icons and it flopped.

@@Rulytasho People did try to basically replicate Melee and that turned into Rivals.

@@primrosevale1995 No, Rivals is a game based of melee, Rivals is it's own thing.

@@Rulytasho Rivals started as a Smash fan-game, and several other fan-games have been able to replicate aspects of Melee. If the Melee community actually came together to create a competitive platform fighter with elements like wavedashing and L-canceling, they could do it both quickly and while producing a quality product because it would be a passion project. Imagine what they could do with a game *they* own instead of a party game from two decades ago.

@@primrosevale1995 they have, they made games exactly that Melee, but they discovered that is better to make a game with more accesible mechanics, so they do just that, that's why we have a nice selection of platform fighters, but not a Melee clone.

I don't think this could have been expressed better. Personally with project M, the day that Nintendo put an end to the project I felt like the company revealed its true colors. They saw the impressive, creative and competitive scene as an abrasive and oppressive atmosphere to their vision and goal as a game company. This terrible judgment call, for whatever reason, disillusioned so many hardcore fans. I wished they would have embraced, rewarded and cultured the community. After all project M was unbelievable technical achievement in my opinion, all fueled by one of nintendo's greatest prospects of all time. Melee.
