The problem with your take on "self-assertiveness" is that, had immigrant Asian parents taken this same attitude, most of the children of immigrants would not enjoy nearly the same successes without extraordinary support from their parents, and be worse off. You are correct that mental health is often swept under the rug, and not enough is done within the culture to acknowledge, much less address burnout. Stable jobs are valued for good reason though, and nothing hits it home harder when a person is struggling to make ends meet and not be able to pay the bills (i.e. some people do not have the luxury of switching and gambling on uncertain work).
