Pudding Lane was where the site of the baker's shop was which caused the Great Fire of London in 1666. The Monument has 311 steps - I should know as in 2005 I climbed up the steps right up to the viewing platform on the top. When you return down the steps of the Monument back to street level you get a certificate to show that you have climbed up and down the 311 steps of the Monument. Nice to see Commander Idi Amin making a cameo appearance.
