Hey Moody ! Thats a dodgy job pressure clean on the driveway mate..pour straight pool chlorine on it, let it sit 15 mins and hose it off.

At 5:35 he holds the trout close to his family jewels. Dont do that if u want to ring the bells, especially in shallow water and the trout hasnt got any barutrauma. Happened to me.

I still remember the trip that made me forget about rods for Trout and all reef fish for that matter. My mate is an ex Pro and took me with him on a 3 day trip. i asked how many rods i could take on his boat and he shook his head. he said he had all the gear we needed but if i wanted to bring a favourite rod i could. after a day of watching him land fish after fish on a handline and me being bricked or pulling up little cod i gave up and tried the handline. very first fish i caught was a nice trout. 20 bucks for a handline or 3-400 for a rod and reel. only rods i have now are for trolling and squidding. i use a handline or deck winch and catch more fish than most of my mates. even thinking of rigging up the deck winches for trolling.

I use a the smallest ball sinker that just fits over the leader, then the main sinker. Since I use the FG knot, I found its so fine that the main sinker would pass over the knot, but wouldn't come back over it. The little ball sinker solved that problem.

Excellent solution for a slim knot and small hook eyes,

I found with the running sinker and using the FG Knot, that the sinker runs past the knot and you can’t get it back over. So instead of tying a granny knot in the leader , I put on the smallest little ball sinker that can just fit over the line above the main sinker but won’t go past the leader to braid knot, works well

Hi Rodney no doubt that will work but i always try to not have anything coming onto the attached knot. Thats why we just tie a granny knot in the leader as the leader is much heavier and knots in it wont degrade it, cheers

Hello Ryan and a Merry Christmas to all . Am a big fan of the running sinker straight to the hook as it is so simple and yet so affective , wether used on a handline or rod and reel . Have used it with rod and reel in 55 m of water to catch spangled emperor , small mouth nannies , red emperor and then big blueys , in that order and in the one session .

Also a good rig for barra in the Northern Territory on live mullet you can cast it as a clump and then the bait doesn’t flick off but if you give it a little bit of line the fish can swim freely once it’s on the bottom

Hi mate, what do you consider shallow water, would river mouths along the beaches count, 2-3.5m. Cheers again. Also lately due to colder waters I am getting lots of taps or light hits from barra on large live whiting and medium mullets/herring, I also follow all your other tips on using mono and soft tip rod and setting the drag and using kahle hooks, anything I can change to help hook up on these winter barras that aren't smashing the whole livey down?
