Fun story: My parents had a huge fishtank many years ago and the fish had slowly died out and was empty. My dad drained the tank and put the tank with its pebble sand floor (that had a bit of water still slushing about in it) in the basement and then we left 6 weeks going on vacation. We came back and I went down into the basement to fetch something and I passed the tank with the few centimeters of water at the bottom and .. SOMETHING WAS MOVING IN IT!! Turned out that the swordtails had dropped babies before they died out but the babies had been too tiny for my parents to spot when they emptied the tank however, the babies had survived... In the dark, in the cold basement.. without any sort of care. My parents then started up the tank once more and that number of swordtails grew for a good number of years afterwards but then on display :)

I’m awful at keeping houseplants alive. My house has very few windows and little natural light, so houseplants struggle in here. Doesn’t help that my cat loves to eat and destroy anything remotely green. But if I could keep houseplants alive, my favorite is fittonia. Such a pretty plant and the one I had always told me when it needed water by drooping it’s leaves and dulling it’s color. Five minutes after I watered it, it’d be bright and perky and happy again. I swear you could watch it brighten up. So fun.

@Annie_Annie__2 жыл бұрын
I have some pothos, it seems to be the only thing I can keep alive. Mostly because the cat learned that if he eats it, it makes him vomit. Can’t do spider plants. For some reason those are like crack to that damn cat. He’s very much a climber, the type of cat that happily spends the day on top of bookcases or almost does himself in trying to sit on top of doors. Believe me when I say that no matter where I put a spider plant, he finds it, devours it, and destroys it. I read that spider plants might have a mild hallucinogenic effect on cats and I believe it. He’d much rather have a spider plant than a whole garden of catnip.

My favourite currently is a tie between my ficus audrey and an orange plant I grew from a seed I found while eating an orange LOL It's still tiny but I'm hoping to grow it into a small tree in the coming years!

I did forget to water change this week lol. I'm designing a pea puffer tank tomorrow too! My family friend finally had time to come over and give it to me. I'll remember to water change every week on that one hahaha.

I like black skirt tetras. They're the poor man's angel fish. I had them with silver dollars and giant danios in a 55. It wasn't a planted tank, sadly, except when I put lettuce in for the silver dollars to munch on.

For 5:37, Ramsay probably said that the fish is so raw that its still swimming. And f*ck me, your Gordon impression is pretty on point XD

Syngonium is a really easy house plant to grow that has lots of beautiful varieties. They're a veining plant similar to pathos but they can handle lower light conditions. They propagate really easily in soil or water. I'm currently growing cuttings from my garden in my fishtanks to add root cover and oxygenation.

Been in the houseplant game for a long time, a lot newer to keeping aquariums. Favorite houseplant plant may be my epiphyllum oxypetalum. Absolutely ethereal.

Pothos!!! Grows in almost any environment and very forgiving :)
@alisonchan6452 жыл бұрын
no, that is not a hoya or a philodendron it is a scindaptus pictus "exotica" also known as a satin pothos ps my favorite plant is either a variegated string of hearts or an alocasia polly, I own a lot of houseplants 😅

Coffee plant! Water it until it drips water from the drainage holes and then put it back in the pot. Let it almost completely dry out (3-5 days) and then water it again. It will THRIVE. Put it next to a window with plenty of sunlight 🌞

is that hoya? I saw someone comment that hoya flowers smell like coffee xD

@@FishForThought hmm I don’t think so lol. Just a regular old coffee plant 🪴

Pothos for in and out of the aquarium! I just love vine plants... and I suck at growing any plants that don't grow in an aquarium. Pothos seems to be my friend!

The problem I had was part of the pothos root died in my tank, spiking ammonia and killing my poor guppies

You have a leg up being a fish keeper going into the houseplant hobby. There are many plants you can grow in water. I grow my melanochysum in water. Add and air stone and some shrimp/snails, some ferts, and now you have a plant you don't have to remember to water!
@Chiswum Жыл бұрын
This was helpful lol, I plan on stocking two 10 gallons with *Ember* Tetras and 6 male guppies!

My favourite houseplant is a Philodendron silver sword! It’s blue-green and the leaves change shape as the plant matures. I love ZZ plants too! You might also like the ZZ zenzi and raven varieties 💚
@eh.4402 жыл бұрын
Favourite plant is definitely the ZZ plant. They look beautiful and strange and can actually do ok in low light and low water conditions but if you treat it and give it lots of light and fertiliser they'll shoot out gorgeous lime green new shoots every so often

I really like my houseplants with a lot of fluffy foliage, so I love my poinsettias (I have a salmon pink one and a red/white variegated one). Also my Pachira aquatica/Money Tree is so big and fluffy and makes me happy. I also have some orchids, and monsteras, and a BoP, and a whole bunch of other plants I use to try to fill the void in my life.

I used to have a 10 gallon tank that was originally stocked with: 2 dragonfly nymphs 5 damselfly nymphs 2 snails (idk what type, everything was from my local river) 20+ shrimp The dragonflies ate everything then the bigger one ate the other

I had 15 blackskirt tetras in a 70 gallon tank. I must say they were one of the most thankful fish I ever had. They lived for 8 years. They died by nen accident when I wasn’t home. And Chris you are right, they need bigger tanks even if they are peaceful and like to hide, they also loves to swim a lot. And the adult one get big for a tetra . The female be like 6-7 cm the male stays a bit smaller.they are a great match for any communitytank.
