Excellent tutorial, Rooster. Been on the radio for 5 decades. Back then, you had to find an operator, tech or book to talk/walk you through the program. No internet. Today's newbies live in an indoctrination, not education world. Actual, real life example: Guy buys a new radio. Hooks it up, keys up, and it blows up. Sends it back with nasty comments about selling defective junk. Buys another one from somewhere else...with the same results. Asks me about it. I ask him numerous guestions, including "what was your SWR reading?" He replied, "what's that?" 🤦♂️ Research before purchasing, people. What else in life do you buy without knowing how to operate it? 73 😑🦗

Very well said I’m very interested in learning. Do you have any recommendations to find that material?
@stonefacedgrasshopper22009 ай бұрын
@@jdisellitboy815 There are many channels on the internet that represent the CB community. Rooster is one of them for learning about various radios and amplifiers. Scott's Radios is another. If you want technical knowledge, theradiogarage is an excellent pick. Go back over theradiogargage's videos thru the years. He is a great tech and continues to educate us and himself at the same time. As you learn and have questions, you can use Google, or any search engine, to get the answers. Start with a basic radio, antenna and good coax cable. If you like the hobby, expand as you learn more. And, of course, there are those old timers out here that will help you along. 73 😑🦗

truth!!!!!!!! not to mention, that if u purchase the radio from a respectable shop, that after they "work on it" and something happens, they have a base line of where and what to do , and the how to get things back in order.. a lot of radios shops have years of respectability for a reason.. trust, and profesionalism..and it is worth t he price. i have no regrets and plenty of guys up here in Maine say the same thing.. u r 100% Rooster Cheers from Maine!

I was lucky when a got back into radio a couple of years ago. I knew enough and had owned an opened up 148 and an hr2510 but I knew no one in the radio business anymore. I ordered a Stryker 955 from a reputable CB radio business "peaked and tuned" along with an Antron, 30 amp Alinco power supply and big coax. It was a Christmas sale and I got a helluva deal on the package. I would have bought from Rooster if I had known better, but I still did well enough not to buy from any old importer. Do your homework, I might have finagled a better deal out of Rooster. :)

The expanded rx and tx info can be easily found by searching the net. I would be skeptical of sending a radio to someone to tune and align if they don't have all of the proper test equipment and experience. I have seen radios ruined that were worked on by shade tree techs that over modulate and cause spurious emissions as well as splatter across an entire band. You have be careful. Ive been working with radios since 1975.

What boggles my mind is that someone would pop off that kind of money without doing some homework first. I started with a 23 chanel Fleetwood radio in my car off my dad's charter boat he shelfed in the early 80s when he "upgraded" to a rackshack 40. Made contacts that became friends and learned what the good stuff was. Thanks for all your videos and business Rooster. 72s😉.

Truth! You get into deals with no mic, power cord, and stuff. Walmart you might get a new radio. Amazon and eBay you lucky to get a complete radio at best with someone else's problems. Yes shipping and repairs and alignment and mods by the time you finally get it you could have gotten two new or another piece of equipment with. A good radio shop is hard to find so do some extensive research beforehand. Also know a hacked up radio will splatter and sound bad. And when you put something behind that radio and even a small amount leaves huge unwanted harmonics. No super whack packs just aligned peak tune with variable key or set key and let it be and enjoy.

Antennas are a whole other subject that I will discuss later. This wasn't an "intro to cb radio" video. This was more a video addressing people buying radios with the impression they'll talk CB out of the box. Also, what stock radios are you using? I will do a before and after video comparison between stock and modified, whatever radio you'd like. I think that would be an interesting video.

@@Rooster_Radio I run a quad 6 in one mobile, a quad 5N2 in the other mobile, and a 955 HPC, Yaesu FT-891, and FT-450D in the shack. I can understand letting them know that they are locked to 10 meters out of the box, but snipping a jumper or pressing a combination of buttons to unlock 11 meters isn't rocket science. I understand that a radio can be "peaked and tuned", but is it worth it to run the radio at an output higher than what the factory sets it at? I don't think the extra watts that are gained are going to do much. If they want to move the needle they should just run a stock radio with one of your Carl Builts.
