This is exactly what happened to me. A £2 part on the feeder tank popped off when I was in the house and mains water flooded it. It was £15k damage done in a matter of minutes. I now turn off the water in my new house when we go away and get looked at like I have two heads. Tempted to fit one of those auto cut off ones

Stayed with my parents over chtistmas, came back to water pouring out on my upstairs windows. ballcock issue and 20k damage paid by insuance!
