I mix it up. I will go higher reps, lower weight for 2-3 months. Then I will switch it up and go heavier with lower reps. I agree, form and control are very important. Make sure to stretch at the bottom of the movement, pause and then slowly contract the muscle. Good video.

nice man, good to see people implement variation into their sessions

Thats just periodisation no?
@LochieDavidson24 күн бұрын
periodisation is an umbrella term for how you plan your training across a year, months, days, etc. so it’s more that it is EFFECTIVE periodisation as opposed to just periodisation itself

nice man, how long have you been training ?

It's almost like everyone's different and the same person is also different depending on what point they're in, in their training career. One thing these dudes never seem to take into account is your bodies ability to adapt to stimulus. If I've been doing lighter weight high reps for a month and I'm seeing good gains, will I still be experiencing good gains 6-12 months later? Doubt it. Now if I go 6 months lighter weight more reps then strategically swap to high weight low reps would I not continue to adapt to this now new stimulus as it's a new thing my body has to overcome? Also, how long has the person been training? What are their muscle fibre type ratios in what muscles? What is their genetic predisposition to muscle gain from strength endurance or from absolute strength training?

@@LochieDavidson It's gonna be 4 years in march. But I'm currently having the best gains since my first year of training. Switched from push pull legs to full body with mainly basic compounds (kind of a 5x5 plan) strength is going up fast and bodyweight is also slowly increasing again
@itsmebd742225 күн бұрын
The adaptation is real. I was training PPL for 2 years and was stagnating for probably one of those years before finally switching to full body 3 months ago

I agree with the most of the actual content of the video, but I can understand why people are disagreeing because the title says to stop lifting heavy, although the video uses examples of people lifting too heavy for themselves to handle. Lifting heavy while using proper form will produce an equal amount if not more stimulus than lifting lighter for more reps. Progressive overload is key, no you do not need to switch your exercises, no you do not need to switch amounts of volume, no you do not need to use deloading phases.

I find myself struggling to improve with calisthenics exercises like pull ups and ring dips where the goal is to increase reps instead of weight. Even when changing the amount of sets/reps trying to maximize total training volume.

I tend to chose weights I can do for 8-10 x5 sets. And occasionally do things like body weight squats, deep static squats and push ups in between sets cos I like to stay stretchy :)

@@LochieDavidson not really i dont really care about strenght and stuff like that, it was more of like "why am i even watching this video when i don't lift weights" xD but thanks man :p

I continually just lift as heavy as I can and or as many reps as I can. So far I've put on 29kg of muscle over 10 years and literally all I care about is lifting more weight 😂 I've gone from 74kg to 103kg at 6 foot while staying relatively injury free. Does your sports science explain that?
@LochieDavidson25 күн бұрын
not sure what the hostility is for 😂 this video is about people that lift TOO HEAVY, clearly your weight selection among other things is spot on
