This has 100% been my experience. I started my channel off by being incredibly niche. I was doing cinematic reviews, with an ASMR twist, of Zoom handheld recording devices. I didn't just want to do that forever though, so once my channel started getting some traction, around 400 views/day from search, suggested, browse features, I decided to niche up. I started peppering in camera reviews, and lens reviews, and the channel started doing even better. I would have had a really hard time getting into the filmmaking niche from scratch, as it is really saturated, but by starting off in a much smaller niche, I was able to expand my content later on, whilst also expanding my viewership.

Thank you for letting the incoming crowd know that this is actual work. I find it mildly entertaining on how so many new creators (as i am one) think this is a switch they turn on and now they are killing it. This is a grind, and not for the meek.

I got to admit, niching down has helped me SO much more on this new channel compared to my old channel. I opened this channel on Jan 2nd 2022 by chance and with only 2 months in, I have already received over my first 1000 watched hours, my first 400 subs and a ton of views. Niching down and sticking to it has helped me so much. Browse and Search have been my top ranking. I gave up a channel where I was on there for 1.5 years. I had to admit to myself that I wasn't going to get monetized if I kept up with that channel. I gained a great community but I also have that big goal of monetization. Niching down DOES work and I am confident I will be monetized on this channel.

Gosh man you put it so forward it's amazing. You're right though this is a passion + business and all businesses have the fun and not fun parts depending on what you like or are good at. There are bound to be some tedious tasks that don't excite us as much (like the process of video editing or maybe the time it takes to render videos, maybe doing social media updates, etc.), but those details matter a lot to and we can't walk off those details because they excite us less. Not if we want to be serious, engaging, and excelling while we expand. That's why I decided before to niche down for my own categories and audience, I understand the power of focused and targeted content with concentrated attention given by users who come for a very specific type and format of content served to them. It works better (especially starting) and people will see you as an authority in that area so it's better for building brands and audience loyalty as well. Instead of being everywhere with no focus (fluid, little sense of direction, known for everything so known for nothing), you can be in one place with all the focus (solid, reliable, trustworthy).

When you said you wanted to do it full time, it seemed impossible then. Look how you have become and thank you for the value you are providing🙏 I can't niche down even in my blogs 🤣. And yes, you are right, random videos don't work if someone is serious about KZbin as a business. Making KZbin videos provide me a respite as a caregiver and KZbin gives me a platform to express what I felt had to be said to people who are intended to hear it. I think you can do it but might need a better title and thumbnail strategy. Those videos probably have viral potential under a proper strategy if you have those kinds of views but 8K subs. Normally you’d see a Channel that has 10K subs have about 1-2 Million views, if you have those kinds of views, then your videos COULD have more potential …

I thought my niche was just everything I was obsessed about but like you said, nobody cares about me. I can’t be a niche, yet! (Especially with just 179 subscribers) so now I’m going back to the drawing board and seeing which one of videos are the ones that people have te most engagement and go from there. Thank you for this lecture. I think more people need to talk about it because KZbin can be fun, but when it comes to making money, gotta put in the tough work 😉

I know this is an older video, but I was looking for a video about niching down and I found you. I was in a niche that I grew to hate because I really did not enjoy making the content, plus the demand for the type of content is low, the he audience is not broad. So, I waved good bye to over 4K subs and started two new niche specific channels. Although my channels are new, I get better results on my new channels than on the bigger channel. The great thing is that I enjoy both niches, have my strategies, and realize that choosing the right niche is key. Thanks, Roberto for giving to us straight with no chaser! 👍🏽

This really relates to the situation going on with my channel. I grew to 7k+ subscribers doing videos over MBTI/16 Personalities, but over the past year, since I launched my channel, I’m completely burnt out. I’ve lost all passion for the subject as each video felt more and more like a chore to make. So I’ve entered my “experimental” phase, doing comedic and commentary-style videos (areas I’m more passionate about) to see how well my audience responds to them. Just feeling lost right now and awful that I can’t deliver the content my audience subscribed for (as well as alienating them with my new content). I’d like your two cents if you happen to see this comment (though I feel a lot of my problems have been addressed in this video). I’ve been subscribed to your channel for years, and I’ve tried my best to take all your advice.

The riches are in the niches. Unfortunately there are way too many want to be “streetwear” brands that don’t understand this age old marketing tactic. Instead they make ego based 🗑 no one buys instead of researching and actually designing for a specific demographic. I spent 2 decades working as a creative director on Fortune 500 brands including experience at Vayner X. It’s unfortunate that the majority of people on social media have a bruised ego & lack of sales rather than designing for a demographic not themselves. They would rather promote a strange logo they personally like that no one understands rather than actually focusing on a brand voice / design for a specific demographic. That’s the biggest mistake…put your ego aside and actually create an art solution for a demographic not what you think is personally “cool”. It’s really not that hard but people are impatient and let their own ego get in the way. The truth is in the analytics. 💯
