I am a bit confused about your video. If I understand you tell us that if we want to edit the RAF(RAW) we should always keep the auto WB. This is because you tell us that the software reading the RAF(RAW) file will show the raw picture with a WB that is not the auto WB. But actually to my understanding a raw file is essentially taking , for each pixel, a binary value (usually 10, 12, 14 or more bits). And this value essentially correspond to the amount of light (roughly speaking 0 for pure white and 1 for pure black and values in the middle some in between black and white color meaning roughly speaking different gray color). Then, most of the camera have usually 1 filter (Red, Green, Blue) on each pixel which makes it possible to have color picture (otherwise without this filter the picture would be BW). Hence the white balance should not be considered at all in the raw file. But what happens , is that the raw file add extra metadata information such as the WB you used and lot of other info such as the apperture you used etc. So what must likely happened is that your software added that extra metadata WB information and is using that WB on it. I have tried on my side to use another software (luminar) and I set on purpose a ultra shifted red WB on my Fuji, but once I imported the raw on my software I did not see a ultra red color picture since my software did not use that extra metadata WB information. What you likely need to do is simply to tell your software NOT to use that extra WB metadata info , does that make sense?

That is a great piece of information. Thanks so much for bringing this issue to our attention!

This is incredibly valuable to know! I recently added a bunch of recipes to my camera, but I honestly thought the RAW files was left completely untouched - so thank you for clearing this up and making us all aware of this. However allow me to give you and other Fuji shooters an advice, if you wanna use the recipes with the flexibility of being able to go back and have to a neutral RAW file to work from. Fujifilm has a software called X Raw Studio, where you can save an infinite number of recipes, apply them to your photos and even push the recipes to the camera if needed. This makes it possible to obtain the stunning JPEG's in post as the camera would've captured them, without ending up with lost detail, WB shifts etc. in the RAW files. While it's adding a slight amount of editing, it nothing compared to Lightroom. The software is not an editing suite per se, but more of a tool to change the settings in post, that makes up the recipes - so you can even tweak it further and really dial in the look on your computer 🙂

On the older Fuji-X cameras (X-Pro2 and older) the WB shift wasn't 'embedded ' in the raw file. However on my X-pro3 it is 'embedded', i.e. I notice a difference in the raw files in Lightroom.

Great tip! How much does auto WB change the look of B&W pictures? My current favorite BW sim is a Leica M10 clone with 6300k white balance
@smartwave92 жыл бұрын
So you mean whatever the B&W recipe, we should make WB auto and set to zero regard R&B channels, and what about monochromatic color effect do you advise the same, WC 0 & MG 0. Thanks for the insight.
@Tudor_Mateescu2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct regarding the white balance. And regarding the monochromatic color you can set it as you like it, because it will affect just the jpeg file.

Tudor, I love your Chanel, and appreciate you advise. I have to look into this so thank you for this video. I just shot a number of images and used a monochromatic color blue applied to my jpeg. I like the shot and wanted to reproduce it in a raw file, but I don’t know how to do that. Maybe there is a way in PS, I don’t know. Thank you for turning me onto Fujifilm cameras. I use to use their films which were awesome. Now I love their cameras

Salut,Tudor,deci tu sugerezi sa nu mai facem acel shift in wb si daca dorim sa folosim diverse retete sa aplicam ajustarile de wb in editare.Corect?

Da, daca vrei un fișier raw curat - AWB din Lightroom nu e asa bun ca cel din camera de pe teren.

Great info. I never understood why B&W sims request changing the white balance. I’ve always left it as auto. HP5 is my current favorite simulation on my X100V

what, if I adjust the RAW files in Fujifilm X Raw Studio, before using Lightroom? Have you tried this?
@Tudor_Mateescu10 ай бұрын
No, but I don't think it saves a new raw file - you export just jpegs.

Daca vreau altceva, folosesc RAW. Dar in nici un caz nu as investi in sistemul Fujifilm pentru fotografie RAW.

This is good information. I have always set my custom recipes using auto wb, so have not come across this problem... but now that I know it could create issues, I will definitely avoid playing with the white balance. I like the Fujifilm out of camera JPEG results, though always shoot RAW as well just in case for full flexibility. I like your channel. Good info. You also helped me decide on getting the Fuji 35mm f2 lens over the 1.4 version from a previous video.

This is no Prablem. WB is only relevant for the jupeg file. In RAW you just adjust the WB.
@Tudor_Mateescu10 ай бұрын
Yes you can adjust it - feel free to do this for thousands of pictures with the Lightroom algorithm and not the in camera AWB... (that is way superior)
