Doesn't this just splits the port between 2 plugs?
@FrakkingCreations Жыл бұрын
Good question: This is indeed a splitter cable. But the way I was mentioning to use it is not to plug the original OBD cable into the splitter cable when doing this DIY. This way the dummy port doesn't work.
@Music-cq8nr Жыл бұрын
@FrakkingCreations I guess I don't see why a splitter cable would be suggested when you could just plug up an extender for the odb and leave the other end not connected
@FrakkingCreations Жыл бұрын
I chose this splitter cable due to the two different plug ends. Different vehicles have slightly different setups and as I mentioned in the video, one of the plug ends fit the demoed vehicle better than the other. For one cable, the user has an option to pick the one that fits best. Also, after I bought the one used in the video, I found another similar cable that also comes with an adapter plate for using screws to attach the OBD cable to the vehicle. This is the link for the "OBD Splitter cable 1" in the video description. Viewers can now have 3 options to choose from when trying to do this DIY. Sometimes it's hard to tell which one you need so hopefully this helps them. Edit: I also provided other cable options that could be used and our viewers can pick one that works best for them, including extension cables.

A smart man would booby trap the fake connector with high-amperage 12V Or perhapsa seperate 24V battery. To destroy the attackers dongle or computer USB ports.
@FrakkingCreations Жыл бұрын
I've seen people suggest this and it does sound like an interesting idea. I haven't seen anyone try this and then test to see what happens. It's definitely dangerous and comes with some added responsibilities on your part if you don't want you or anyone, their property or your property to get hurt or damaged. I would think that you will need to include a fuse in that setup or the person using the OBD port that is booby trapped could cause a fire to your vehicle and/or their equipment. They could also get hurt. Without a fuse that get's very dangerous (Not that a fuse alone makes it "safe"). Also consider: - Every time you take your vehicle in for servicing at an auto shop or dealership, you will have inform them that you have trapped the original OBD port and that they should not use it. Either that or you will have to disable the trap before the service and re-enable after the service. If you don't and they do try to use the port, it could damage their equipment and you would be on the hook to replace it (Could be thousands of dollars for you). Also, a fire could break out causing damage to their facilities or hurting the mechanic. Sometimes mechanics use the OBD port legitimately to scan for faults, pending faults and sometimes dealerships apply updates to the firmware of the vehicle. These are likely and legitimate scenarios. - When you sell your vehicle, you have to remember to remove the trap. Also, during the selling process, the potential buyer may ask to take the vehicle to get inspected or may want to use their own reader to access the OBD port to scan for fault codes and pending codes. You will have to inform them or disable the trap. - Also, some places have annual emissions testing that has to be passed before your vehicle registration can be renewed in order for it to be road legal. If you trap your OBD port, then you better make sure you remember to undo the trap and restore the original port before going for the emissions test. All in all, more responsibilities. A smart man would think twice before trapping the OBD port.

Go for the gusto ... Put in a fake port for sure, but keep a powered-up capacitor hooked to it. Something with a 'little bite' to it. Makes the theft of your vehicle and the demise of the guy's hand tool just a little more exciting. I am sure one can devise a way of doing this. Definitely tell your garage you have re-arranged your OBDII port though! Just a thought.

Great info! If you’re able, could you please let me know what links I should go to & purchase to set up the fake port, and relocate the port to a central area of my truck? (2021 Silverado 1500)..I wouldn’t mind putting a physical lock on it, after moving it to the alternate location, as well. Thanks!

Thanks for commenting. Since I don't have that vehicle, I won't know specifically which fake splitter port you will need. Though, the ones I linked to in the video description should work. I provided quite a few so you will have to check out what your OBD port looks like and decide which one fits best. As for an OBD lock I also included links for some in the video description. Please check those out.

@@FrakkingCreations Thank you for the reply & feedback. I decided to do a variation of what you’re describing and doing. I purchased a splitter, which I’ll use to extend both leads elsewhere in the vehicle. One will be hidden, but accessible for access & I’d like to connect the other to a GPS tracker w/ app access and for vehicle diag. I’d like to think that’s possible, at least. In place of original ODB port, I purchased a dummy that I’ll install & put a lock on. My thought process is that someone should come prepared to spend and waste some time if they’re looking to gain access to the port, and then discover it’s not a legit port anyway, which hopefully will discourage and help them move along to something easier.

Nice. Make them spend the time to remove the lock then have a non-functioning OBD port. That would be funny to watch.

Can we not cut the obd2 port wire,redirect several to hidden kill switches?
@FrakkingCreations3 ай бұрын
I suppose that is also possible. But if the cut in the OBD 2 wire is close to the port, the thieves would be able to find the cut and tapped wires for the switch and just bypass it by reconnecting the two wires that go to the switch.

Why do manufacturers not at least try and solve this issue of vehicle theft before you buy the vehicle? I am sure they could secure most if not all the issues so you don't see an empty parking space in the morning. Maybe, just maybe, they don't give a sh - -!
@billmcc64 Жыл бұрын
On computers we have this thing called a "password". Maybe we could have a password to enable access to certain functions on the vehicle.
@DesertStateInEU Жыл бұрын
Passwords can be bypassed or cracked. Thats only a half measure. Preventing access to your car's electronics is whats best.
@FrakkingCreations Жыл бұрын
@billmcc64 One of the issues with car computers is that they have been very basic and systems are not designed with security in mind. Even if they put a password screen or pin entry it may not be enough because it is still possible to hack through other means. For example, like connecting hacking devices to the OBD port, the car's WiFi and in some cases through the wires that power the headlights. These all connect to the vehicle's bus system to the main computers without protection or security.

Is there one with the key for jeeps?
@FrakkingCreations Жыл бұрын
There isn't a specific OBD port lock to the Jeeps so you would have to choose one of the 2 universal models. You would have to check with the seller as to which one would fit better.

It's hard to say without seeing it. Consider buying one of the OBD extension cables that come with screw holes that can be used to attach to the car. You can then use screws to attach the extension cable end to plastic paneling under your dash and then plug the original OBD cable into the other end of the extension. I have a link in the video description to such a cable. Checkout the one called "OBD Splitter cable 1" Hope that helps.

I've been looking for a dummy OBD port for a 2014 Charger SRT8, and not even the dummyobd website has it. Any idea where I can get one? Or do I just get a normal one and sabotage it?

I provided links to several cable options in the video description. Pick one that is similar to your OBD port. If you are going to sabotage it you will have to be very careful.

And if you want to be funny, wire the 12v to the data pins on the fake port.
@Okikor1 Жыл бұрын
Can you simply use a (or two) security screws and screw it in the middle of the obd port. This shouldn't short any wires and would not allow anything to plug into the port.
@FrakkingCreations Жыл бұрын
It's a possibility. Just have to be careful still as you have metal screws close to the pins. It's possible to have the screws or screwdriver accidentally touch the pins as you are screwing the screws in. I believe one of the universal OBD locks I recommend uses something like this to "lock" a cover over the port. Check out our other video if you're interested. I have links for the universal lock in the description of that video.
Can this cause a failed connection at the INSPECTION STATION?

Of course. The original OBD will not be connected to the visible dummy port. Be sure to reconnect your original port before going to get your vehicle inspected for emissions testing.

can you do a killswitch with this

No. A proper kill switch would require accessing power lines for components like the started, fuel pump, etc... This would not be possible using the OBD port alone.
